that Pat Venditte is getting some attention with Oakland and in the media for his unique ability. I always wanted to see him get a shot on the big stage and so I hope he makes the team.

Yeah he should have gotten a cup of coffee last year. They knew they were going to cut some people after the season, they could have made room.
hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports. These guys have spent their lives working on and honing their swings to be good enough to be successful 25-40% of the time. The margin to being a professional hitter and a guy who never stopped making bus trips in the minors can be razor thin. The nonchalance with which people assume that a guy like Tex could just re-tool his entire swing and approach is puzzling.
was a solid gamble for the Yanks. The type of gamble they should be making right now, not like Martin Prado was going to make much of a difference on this squad.
His numbers dont match up with his stuff but maybe the light will come on for him here, we can hope

Watch tape on Teix during his pre-yankees prime. He screwed with his stroke when he came over to the Yankees. I'm not expecting him to fix anything, mind you, but we can always hope.
I sure hope we aren't going to spend large on a player that should be signed by teams intent on contending in the next two years. Solid hitter without a solid position? We already have enough players who need time at DH. If Drew can step up, which I believe he will, we really don't need him.
In addition, insult to injury if we go cheap on Moncada but outbid the league for someone 10 years older.

Very much so. He just turned 25. There's a lot of upside there.

I loved the trade because we tossed a pitcher who was easy to replace and a hitter who was blocking younger players and we got a starter with potential, a legit backup first-baseman and a solid prospect. Nothing not to love in that.
the kid can really pick it, if he's even capable of hitting .230 at the MLB level (and I'm not sure he is) he could be a longtime major leaguer. Link - ( New Window )
sit up and watch. OMG he has a great arm. Tightening up his location and this guy will get lots of major leaguers out. High 90s fastball and the Yankees love the power arms.
again highlighting the issue that many Boston fans have noted, which is that they paid more for Castillo than they were willing to pay for Lester before last season and very nearly as much for a 19 year old two years from the bigs. Link - ( New Window )
1 H 1 K. Solid reviews for him, could contribute this year.
Refsnyder 2-2, legged out an infield single, also got thrown out at 3rd trying to stretch a double. Threw away a DP ball. Certainly a consequential game for him, if an imperfect one.
Two days in a row with a poor throw isn't doing him any justice. In a VERY small sample, he is showing the ability to handle the bat and get on base. But, I can't see him doing so significantly more so than Drew to overcome fielding issues. To me, ideally, Refsnyder and Pirela would be battling for the starting 2B job. The loser would start in AAA to get consistent playing time, while Drew serves as a backup throughout the infield. The defensive start for the two youngsters isn't helping.
But, I also realize that the reality is Drew is the 2B unless he absolutely stinks this Spring AND one of the two kids is outstanding.
I've said my piece on the subject, I'm fine with shaky defense because I expect it to improve and because the bat is very ready. I hated the Drew signing at the time and I hate it now.
and I want to see kids play. Ref needs to play 2B everyday in AAA until he's at least close to MLB average. Hopefully that takes until about the all star break because if Drew hits like he did last year that's when they'll be releasing him. This year's Brian Roberts.
The word on him was the bat was ready in terms of being able to handle it. But a question still remains about the ability to hit consistently at the MLB level right now. Personally, from last year Refsnyder was my choice for the same reasons you mentioned and Drew should never have been signed. I even wanted Refsnyder called up last year. I agree with you 100%. But, the Drew signing means that this type of defense means he isn't even likely to make the team. that sucks considering you, I, and many others think he should be starting.
Overall, at this point in his career, I don't see why anyone would be enamored with Drew. Even if you don't love him, what is there to lead you to believe he is a much better option than any decent 2B? He doesn't do anything exceptionally well. Don't get me wrong. That isn't to mean he sucks. But, he is a .250 hitter, is not a high OBA guy, has a little power but nothing special, doesn't steal a lot of bases. He's not a leadoff guy, not a middle of the order guy. He is a good fielder, but that is primarily at SS. If you have a young kid who can conceivably hit over .250, and walk a little bit, he is aready likely ahead of Drew at the plate. Refsnyder offers that.
he needs half a season at AAA, minimum. Impressive kid, great story (cancer survivor), excellent hit tool and some serious raw power, may have put himself firmly back on the prospect map. But offensive players generally don't, and shouldn't, skip AA.
That's what I thought. I am worried about the 4th and 5th OFers, especially since both will likely get a decent amount of time given our penciled in starters.
Nobody wants to see that. Baseball losing two of its best pitchers for a year plus in Harvey and Fernandez is bad for the sport, no matter who you root for. Hopefully Darvish will be alright.

Flores is probably close, and Dugas could fill in as a 4th OF if the need arises. Mason Williams and Heathcott have looked good so far, rebounds from either of them (though I don't expect it) would be big for the farm.
Re: Darvish - I agree losing a top pitcher like that is not good for the sport as a general fan of the sport. I just thought the "yikes" was more from a fan of that team, which I don't think Dan is.

All timing and nerves.
Teix looks like he is ready to keep yanking everything in 2015.

Yes. Saw him pitch with the Marlins a ton.
All this talk about Judge makes me drool.
ARod with another nervous poke at the ball. I wonder if the gets a third AB today.
I've seen enough of Davies. Hello Mr. Grapefruit innings gobbler.
I think Williams needs to remember to eat. He looks scrawnier every Spring. It clearly isn't helping his game either.

One game closer to the season opener.

Lindgren gives up a single to Hansen, then fans Sanchez and Nunez and gets Morel on an F-9. A wild pitch was mixed in, but good inning.
But that stuff is impressive. Who knows if the command will ever be there but that guy has some nasty movement.
