"The US ambassador to South Korea, Mark Lippert, was injured in an attack by an armed assailant Thursday in Seoul, television reports said.

The channel carried a picture showing the ambassador after the assault with his right hand raised to his face and his left hand smeared with blood."

has soured over time in SK thanks to our presence there among your average Korean (I'm not talking about whether they should or shouldn't, just they have with a certain percentage of the population).

Apparently the attack was politically linked to recent maneuvers the US military jointly conducted.

This is true. it's rather interesting when you look into this change. This change lies both in the different generations (Korean War/military dictator generations vs. post democracy/KPop generations) and the different political stance regarding NK. It is sort of like the very different ways that different generations of Koreans see Japan. The US military hasn't help in the past decades with the high profile crimes committed against Koreans either.
