of these draft picks have just been unreal. JJ was taken the draft after Cruz spent the season IR with a bad hamstring IIRC. Nobody knew what Cruz would become, and everybody was searching for the next DeSean Jackson. We were also searching for a PR. We're still searching. A good PR for the Giants is a RR fair catch.
JJ got hurt this year. With Cruz down, he would have gotten a lot of chances in the slot. Not saying he would have done anything but he did flash at the end of '13.
But the lack of explosiveness for a guy who isn't big just limits him. I don't remember a single deep pass he caught in his tenure for us. I know he was mostly slot but still, he never showed he could kill you over the top.

Good luck to him.
As a 4th string we who doesn't contribute to STs as a returner or coverage guy, how exactly does he "belong" on an NFL roster?
Exactly! Maybe now he should publicly apologize to the coaching staff since he felt it necessary to publically throw them under the bus with that nonsense.
But he showed just enough in '13 when he played that I think he's better than CFL'er.
LOL, classic.
But it's not funny that yet another mid- to high pick goes to the scrap heap without having contributed anything.
Who is shaking fucking Jerry Reese by the collar and saying, "Do you get it now? No more of these so-called, high upside athletes who can't play and who take up cap dollars and roster space. You got it now??????" Still a few more to weed out, if Reese and his riding buddy get religion.
It's a miracle we're not in Bucs territory.
the only thing that has seperated us from bottom teir teams
Why not? Edelman at 5'9" was arguably the best player in the super bowl. Wes Welker, Panther Steve Smith and Giant Steve Smith were effective smaller receivers. Having an unassuming, but highly effective shorter slot receiver could be a potent weapon.
For perspective, here's what the next 3 receivers selected in 2011...
Cecil Shorts was a good pick by Jacksonville at #114, though he can't stay healthy. After him, it was back to normal with Tandon Doss and Kealoha Pilares.
The draft is hard. Hindsight is easy. Sure, the Giants would have been better off with Randall Cobb or Justin Houston instead of Marvin Austin; and Mason Foster or Clint Boling instead of Jerrel Jernigan. But the teams that made those picks also made bigger mistakes than Jernigan in earlier rounds. Kansas City struck out with Jon Baldwin at #26. Green Bay busted with Derek Sherrod at #32. Cincinnati wasted the 66th pick on Dontay Moch. Tampa's bookend DEs, Adrian Clayborn (#20) and Da'Quan Bowers (#51), have missed a ton of time since 2011 and will almost certainly be allowed to walk this month.
He did show some signs in 2013 of being a good WR. I think the Giants over paid for Cruz. I always thought the Giants could plug someone in the slot and Eli would make him look good. With Beckham on the outside I think that is still that case heading into 2015. Eli just needs the OL to protect him.
We won't know about Cruz's recovery at least until training camp. Jints need another receiver who can play in the slot (or outside, to let Beckham play in the slot).
RE: I really think Jints need to hold onto JJ at least through FA/draft

How can you hold onto anyone that doesnt have a contract ??
...it that the guy couldn't catch a punt. One of the reasons he was drafted as high as he was was his alleged ability in the return game. Yet in preseason nearly every punt went right through his hands.

He'll do well on another roster.

Different system now. If the WR has speed, can run good routes, and can get YAC I don't care how tall he is.

Yes
