Giants Lead the League in Injures, Again

endwerc : 3/4/2015 7:50 pm
No surprises here.

Quote:
The Giants had a lot of those "if only" dreams last year as they became the first team to lead the league in Adjusted Games Lost in back-to-back seasons. This is the fifth year in a row the Giants ranked 22nd or worse, and they have missed the playoffs in four of those seasons.

Everybody has injuries!

Just name me one other team who has had injuries like this and tell me their record and how many SB they've won.
At what point

Can you say this is no longer a coincidence? I'm not blaming it on Strength and Conditioning or the field or anything in particular but how can this simply be bad luck. The FO needs to bring in a team of investigators and get all CSI up in this shit! Gotta figure this whole thing out.
Injuries suck, but most of the ones the Giants suffered this

season were to a bunch of not good players (or players who weren't playing well at all, even if not "normally"/previously bad).

They weren't going to be a good team even if they had stayed healthy at a league average level. They looked like shit, before they even started wracking up the IR numbers, to start the year for a reason.

2011 was Eli, and nothing but Eli (alright maybe a little bit of nicks and Cruz peppered in but that goes hand in hand) those 3 piggy backed probably the most mediocre roster to ever win the SB

Yet the average (know nothing) nfl fan thinks Eli "needs a great oline", "needs a great run game", "needs a great defense", yet we were bottom 3 in the league in all those categories, which is pretty much impossible to win a sb with no matter who else you have, oh AND with a 30 yr outdated offense! Just give Eli a couple guys who can actually catch the perfect passes dropped right into their palms, and nothing else matters, fill out the rest of the roster with high schoolers and fill out the coaching staff with circus monkeys, Eli will find a way to carry them on his back

Didn't you see the end of Season presser from Mara, Coughlin and Reese. It was the main issue that Mara kept focusing on and he stated he spent resources (money) into finding out what is going on. He seem like he isn't any closer to finding out a reason to so many injuries.

Actually it was a lot of JPP. Towards the end of the season the defense picked up and at times carried the offense. Giants don't even make the playoffs if not for the out stretch hands of JPP on a FG attempt. People forget the impact JPP had that season.

We lost a lot of keys starters this year... Mook, Cruz, Beason, Scwartz, Jennings, Thurm, McBride, DRC being banged up.. an obvious problem here is we had 4 injuries at one position (the same position every fucking year) losing 3 of your top 4 corners while the top one is limited can destroy any team in the league, hell do you remember what our D looked like by the last few weeks??? I had know idea who half the guys on the field were and I knew every name on the 53 coming into the year, our defense looked like a lineup you would see in the 4th quarter of a preseason game for Christ's sake, and on offense we lost one big piece in every unit! Andre Williams+ our painfully obvious run game was a disaster waiting to happen, we wouldn't have had so many weeks where we had 20 carries for 25 yards if we had Jennings (who isn't even all that good but he's way more useful in every way than Andre) and that alone prob would've equaled a few more wins, it def cost us at least 3 games this yet relentlessly and obviously trying to pound the ball with Andre williams

Right rigs..No OBJ first 4 games. No Cruz most of season..No Jennings most of season..No Schwartz most of the season..No Beason..No Prince for a good part of the season..No Thurmond in slot all year..A game but crippled DRC most of the season..Weatherford almost useless after ankle as much as he tried..

So year, not a bunch of very good players..
year=yeah

Jennings is an average RB that has made it through a full season
Devon : 3/4/2015 9:17 pm : link
one time to this point in his career, at least when being asked to carry anything close to a semi-full load.

If a team was THAT dependent on a known sketchy commodity, that he was "worth" three additional wins, then they had major issues.

And the Giants had major issues, from opening night, when they were one of maybe two teams to make the Detroit offense look like world beaters in 2014 and hadn't yet suffered a massive IR list, on.

You're reaching..Jennings was doing well and made the OL look better than it was..And please stop with the opening night loss to Detroit..We got nlown out, big deal it happens and means nothing..A bunch of times this year, uber pathetic teams went into a contenders house and whipped them..TB(or Jax?) in Pittsburgh..Seattle at home..GB got blown out by utter crap..It happened all over the league..

with the Giants. Kidding...kinda.

I've accepted that we're most likely going to lead the league in injuries for awhile. Just seems like destiny... (going for that reverse juju).
And to be clear, you know where I stand
Big Blue '56 : 3/4/2015 9:29 pm : link
on the injury front. So I'm not attempting to trot out the injury excuse as I don't want to get into a debate with those who disagree as it winds up going nowhere..

I ONLY came on here to answer an untruth that you put forth which was that our injuries didn't happen to very good players..Otherwise I had no desire to regisit the same old debates that never get resolved

Yes, it's reaching to look at a player's entire career and form
Devon : 3/4/2015 9:34 pm : link
an opinion on him.

Jennings, in total, is an average RB that has never played 16 games and has only had to carry a really heavy load once to this point, despite being 29 years old. If the Giants were actually banking on a player like as heavily as some claim they were (when it suits them), then that's not a good thing to be holding up, when it comes to their decision making.

And if we're not supposed to use the Detroit game, perhaps we can focus on how they lost against the Drew Stanton led Cardinals? Or how they got shut out in Philadelphia, looking like trash even before Cruz went down in that game? The injuries had started, somewhat, like they do for all teams, but the list wasn't out of control at that point by any means.

I think it's reasonable to EXPECT guys on an NFL roster make a handful of plays throughout the course of an entire (20 game) season, and for a positional unit to have a few good games, but every unit on that team minus the QB and WRs was pretty terrible the entire season aside from a very small handful of good games.. yipee!
Yeah, but every team in the NFL has injuries like the Giants..

you can't sign (or trade for) guys like Beason and Jennings,
Shirk130 : 3/5/2015 8:32 am : link
and then complain about injuries. What a copout.
copout? Silly..
Big Blue '56 : 3/5/2015 8:38 am : link
Jennings was healthy and doing well when he went down with an injury that had NOT hamstrung him before in his career..

Beason did very well when he came to us with NO apparent residual effects from his prior injuries/surgery..He was healthy for the first time in a long time. Then a fluke, "never had before" and unrelated injury(to anything he's had) struck effectively putting him out for the year..

Bottom line? BOTH were healthy coming into 2014 and BOTH sustained injuries unrelated to prior ones they incurred..

So those were two big and unexpected losses given the nature of their unique(to them) injuries
Jennings has never played a full season,
Shirk130 : 3/5/2015 8:56 am : link
even in a reduced role. And now the Giants are going to resign Beason. Does anyone here believe he will play 16 games?
I keep telling people it's Albany

Exactly my thinking Dave. Every freaking year I think back to that single sentence from his press conference.
The injuries have been trending
BigBlueinChicago : 3/5/2015 2:53 pm : link
badly for a good amount of years.

Here is how the Giants have fared compared to the rest of the NFC and the NFL as a whole in terms of most Adjusted Games Lost due to injury:

2007 - 4th in the NFC, 6th in the NFL
2008 - 7th in the NFC, 11th in the NFL
2009 - 9th in the NFC, 19th in the NFL
2010 - 10th in the NFC, 22nd in the NFL
2011 - 12th in the NFC, 26th in the NFL
2012 - 13th in the NFC, 25th in the NFL
2013 - 16th (LAST) in the NFC, 32nd (LAST) in the NFL
2014 - 16th (LAST) in NFC, 32nd (LAST) in the NFL

Total AGL from 2007-2014: 618 games lost

16th (LAST) in NFC, 31st in NFL

Average AGL from 2007-2014: 77.3 games lost

16th (LAST) in NFC, 31st in NFL

Teams reporting injuries has gone up over the last 7 years as well, which has made many teams numbers for AGL higher.

Despite this, the Giants have continued year after year after year over the last 6 years to be one of the most injured teams in the NFL compared to every other team, ranging from slightly below average (2009 - 19th) to outright ravaged (2013-2014 - 32nd).

The last "good year" they have had with injuries was 7 seasons ago in 2008 when they finished 11th. You have to go back to the XLII Super Bowl year when they were a pretty healthy team through the whole season.

yes, we're all rooting for Chip Kelly to fail in Philly

but have to admit, he may be on to something with his methods...according to that chart the Eagles were 1st in 2013 and 5th in 2014

Interestingly, the other team ranked around that highly was the Jets - 6th in 2013 and 2nd in 2014

Of course, when all your QBs suck at football, it doesn't matter much who's healthy or not

But the point is, WTF is going on with the Giants...
