- JPP deal is getting messy over guaranteed money, but there is a chance a new long-term deal will be done before Monday.
- Jon Beason's contract re-structuring is done.
- Giants will invite safety Devin McCourty (Patriots) and Rahim Moore (Broncos) to visit. McCourty is 1a and Moore 1b.
- The interest in Ndamukong Suh is smoke.

Plaxico Burress' agent played hardball. The Giants let him walk and suddenly there was word the Giants were interested in David Terrell.
Suddenly Burress signed.
JPP HAS BEEN TAGGED.
all the other examples are not relevant.
I would believe this Suh interest is a smokescreen leaked to increase his price for other teams. Absolutely. To increase the urgency of other teams. To have them react to the potential of seeing Suh on the Giants and pursue other players.
But no, that leak is not motivating JPP's agent.

I just don't want to get into a bidding war and pay him 8 million a year when we can pay Rolle 4 or less.
Rolle will get some suitors. He is a quality safety
Rolle doesn't strike me as a guy would accept $4M per from the Giants. He'll go elsewhere and wake up to a very unfriendly NFL.
Thanks! Didn't know that info
Yup. He's a really good player and fills a need.
I understand why people feel like upgrading our line (OL/DL) is our top priority, but it's not like the Giants are bringing in a high-profile QB. Safety is still a need position for us and McCourty would be a great get.

Was an All-Pro in 2010 & 2013. Both before Revis got there. Not bad to have a two time All-Pro in 4 NFL seasons.
Thanks! Didn't know that info
2nd team all-pro. not that it matters, but it kind of does.
Exactly. Because there's absolutely nothing the Giants can do between now and the start of the season to improve their defense. It sucks to be us.

McCourty has 5 pro seasons under his belt.
Going into 2015, as far as we know, the Giants DTs are pretty healthy, so the need isn't there to go all in on Suh. Going after safety help makes much more sense. My guess is Suh ends up in Miami when it's all said and done.
Remember what Reggie White did for the Packers
So if true, sorry to hear it is a smoke screen as to the Giants interest in Suh
It should be smoke..
Giants need Safety help.. OL help.. Slot corner help.. Linebacker help.. DT help...
They should NOT blow the wad on ONE player..
agreed. Always thought this was Albert haynesworth 2.0, or shaun Rogers 3.0. Also imo not a Giants move to spend franchise qb money on a another team's player, even if the money was there.
Due diligence and "not leaving any rock unturned'' maybe. Chances are they have interest, they're looking to add talent to the dl, why wouldn't you be interested in the best on the market. even if you know he'll be far beyond what you can/will offer.

Dallas oline is going to dominate us again

Total mess up. Was suppose to have in there unless we snag one of the other dtackles in Williams or knighton.
Even then ayers or Moore starting opposite of jpp isn't a great prospect and no player we draft is going to be a great DEnd to start out. None of the prospects fit the bill
Suh I felt was the best way to combat Dallas and turn our defense into a a top 10 defense and make our dline phenomenal
Why is stating such a fact some how conflated with writing off the season in March?
And while I'm speaking about March... so what if a poster wrote the Giants off at this time last year?
That was regrettable, but also accurate.
And while I'm speaking of forecasts, here's one you can depend upon.
If the Giants don't get real men at the LOS via the Draft and Free Agency in the next 2-3 months, we'll be picking in the Top 10 again in 2016!

All of these allegations regarding my contract negotiations are entirely false. I haven't had discussions with any teams including NYG

If we do get the extension done all of BBI entreat the universe to keep his back healthy.

I'm not high on this team short term prospects, but I'm not complaining about interest in a known good safety that isn't old or with a sketchy injury history. It's not going to fix the team or make them a serious contender in 2015, but it's a logical move to at least show interest with a guy like McCourty, if they don't have to do too much contract shuffling (though he probably will cost enough, given the market, to require that).
I have checked out some of those weaksafetyies you talk about
and seea lot of potential there. Take a look at the measurables, especially some of the guys expected to go rd's 3-5. 1 in particular is the kid from SU, Durrell Eskridge.

I understand that he's been tagged. He can still be dealt, and he can still just play for 1 season at the tag salary. Floating interest in Suh demonstrating the Giants will just spend their money elsewhere if the agent is just gunning to break the bank as Eric's rumor post suggests.

I've looked them up and down and for the most part.. it's a terribly weak class especially for rangey coverage safties, seems like all the decent prospects this year are box safties, which we may need, we may not need, but we undoubtedly need someone who can cover ground back there such as mccourty or moore
This year the safety class in the draft and FA is weak. Meanwhile the trenches has some depth to it in the draft. The real strength of the top of the draft looks to be pass rush and WR. Then there are a number of OL and DL in the top 50 to be meaningful additions. If the giants so choose they can probably make strong editions in tne trenches the first few rounds. Safety, there is almost no depth plus the NYG have young guys in Berne and Taylor, they need a. Et

My comparison to haynesworth and rodgers is about the speculation/rumors tying the Giants to them as strong contenders to sign them. While there may be interest, I don't believe it was ever going to be a competitive offer.

Probably won't, but he'd upgrade our DLine instantly more than anyone else can. Comparing him to Haynesworth and Rodgers is silly.

Gotcha.
You Dirty Old Bastid: I agree 100%. NEED a F/A guard that can run block. Franklin can play guard or RT, good in pass pro and very good in run blocking. I really really hope Reese goes hard for him.
Do you think it's more than 25 - 30M? Say 35M at most?
he's getting 15M this year if he signs the FT.
More than likely I see him signing a 6 year 65M deal with maybe 30 - 35 guaranteed.
If he plays on the FT this year, some team will probably still give him that same deal next year and it turns into a 7 year 80M deal with 50M guaranteed.
this is just my opinion, but because he's earned 17M already and he'll earn 15M for one season in 2015, JPP and his agent are under no pressure to sign, they own the leverage, no matter what gets leaked about the Giants spending money on Suh. In fact, regardless of the Giants and the Suh leaks I'd bet JPP would get more simply by hitting FA than signing with the Giants before next week when FA begins.
I know it's a rumor most of the site has bought into, so maybe it's true, but I don't see it.
and I go back to my prior point. consider half this site is posting about the smokescreen and how it's intended to motivate JPP and his agent. How does he not know this?
