If the Giants
Metnut : 3/5/2015 2:38 pm : link
start out, say 6-3, and Eli has a 4-6 week injury, we'd all be pretty to have kept Nassib. I'm not saying that rolling the dice and taking a 3rd rounder is a bad idea, but there's a good case to be made for keeping him too.

I think you make the same argument that taking the 3rd rounder and getting a veteran backup might be the better option in that scenario. My problem with that scenario is that there aren't really any high quality veterans to fit the bill and any they could get would cost them. so, I have no problem standing pat with Nassib.

Cool post bro. I'll be sure to look for your next eye opening post. Let me guess, you think CC Brown was a bad player? Earth shattering stuff, what would we do without you?

Unbelievably original, congrats!

and that's a good thing.

I'd heard they were shopping him for a #2, perhaps a #3 is the trigger.

Jon, was wondering if you could elaborate a bit more. I had not heard that. I would love to believe it as this is the year to shop a young QB. The Vikings just got a 5th and a 7th for Matt Cassel. Would think the Giants could get better for Nassib.
I don't see us shopping Nassib
UConn4523 : 3/5/2015 4:04 pm : link
out of need. If something falls in our lap i'm sure they will look at it, but I have a hard time believing they will let go of a cost controlled backup.

Sure did. As unbelievable as that may seem.
we gave up a 6th
UConn4523 : 3/5/2015 5:29 pm : link
don't see what the big deal is. a 4th and 6th round pick is worth getting a solid, cheap backup QB that has an outside chance of being more than that at some point if we ever needed him to be. If he never plays a down here its still worth it (and its what we should all want).

I'd heard a couple times they were open to moving Nassib for a #2. A compromise on a #3 would be more likely, and I'm speculating perhaps that's enough to trigger NYG to make the deal, but nothing to back that up from the rumor mill other than what Eric was told.

Problem with that is I can't see anyone offering us a #2 for Nassib.
arcarsenal : 3/5/2015 5:44 pm : link
Why would they? 2 years ago, every team in the league had 3 (and some had 4) chances to take him and passed. No team in the league thought he was worth a 2nd or 3rd rounder at the time of the draft and he hasn't taken a snap in a regular season game so I can't see how his stock could possibly have elevated at all.

I think he has more value to NYG as a backup with potential for now. Obviously I'd take a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him in a heartbeat but I feel like his actual value in a trade is a fair amount lower than that at this point or at least I'd assume so.
yeah I mean
UConn4523 : 3/5/2015 5:45 pm : link
sign me up for a 2. I'd live with a 3, but I don't see any team doing that either unless its unexpected desperation.

Fans are supposed to get excited when our team drafts a player. Why? Because we have an expectation they will contribute to our success. The professionals employed by our owners hand picked them from the available prospects. The idea we can't criticize or be disappointed with our recent draft success is just plain dumb. The owner recently did so himself...publicly. It isn't a secret.

Well said.

I'd agree there's not enough film on him for a team to leap to trade premium pick for him, but teams do get desperate in the NFL at times, especially for QBs. Stranger things have happened.

I wouldn't move him for a #4 or lower, at that point I'd agree his value as the backup and trying to build him for future trade talks would make more sense to me.
Why wouldn't shopping Nassib make sense?
pjcas18 : 3/5/2015 5:56 pm : link
especially IF the Giants plan to extend Eli.

In 2015 Nassib is in his 3rd year of a 4 year deal, so once he enters year 4, he'd have less value IMO, because the Giants are not likely to extend Eli AND give Nassib a 2nd contract nor would he probably want a 2nd contract as a backup. So he's likely to hit free agency.

You'd think he'd at least want an opportunity to compete for a starters job so if Eli is extended it means again IMO, that Nassib's gone after year 4 of his deal.

If the Giants recoup a 3rd round pick for him it would be trading a 4th and a 6th for a 3rd in two years. probably a fair deal.

Fantasy Football.
Klaatu : 3/5/2015 5:57 pm : link
Giants trade Nassib for a 3. Then they sign Mark Sanchez to back up Eli. Eli goes down late in the season. Sanchez leads the Giants to a Super Bowl victory a la Jeff Hostetler. Jet fans commit mass suicide.

I have no problem shopping him, I just feel like the offers would be in the vicinity of a 5th rd pick. Maybe a 4. I'd be really surprised if anyone was willing to give up a 3rd but if they did, I'd take it.

Yeah, I would be shocked too if he nets a 3rd round pick.

But like I posted earlier there is a lot of stupidity in the NFL around the QB position and a lot of stupid teams. Combine those two and Nassib can possibly get a 3rd.

The guy I had my eye on as a parallel to how the Giants would handle Nassib was Ryan Mallett and the Pats and I hoped the Pats got a high round pick for Mallett, but in the end I think all he got the Pats was a 7th. And Mallett was the classic "first round talent in the third round" cliche. I guess not. And that does not bode well for Nassib. He really just needed a meaningless game with a great performance and it could have benefitted the Giants.

Could happen closer to the draft
Phil in LA : 3/5/2015 6:15 pm : link
and depend on how teams feel about this year's class. The concern would be that they would trade the "extra pick" to move up in a flat draft.
Nassib stays
SGMen : 3/5/2015 6:47 pm : link
He knows the offense. Eli can always get hurt - God forbid! Nassib, let's say he starts two games and excels his value skyrockets. Remember, the Giants have playmakers.
Or it could be a chance to get another pick in the meat of this draft
Damon : 3/5/2015 6:49 pm : link
In exchange for a guy who likely would be gone next year anyway.
