both very solid run stuffing DT's who I think would be great fits for the Giants. Reading that Knighton is going to Oakland, which I'm hoping isn't the case. Either one of these guys paired with Hankins inside gives the Giants a massive and formidable interior, (both are 335 lbs plus) with Jenkins and Bromley rotating in. And they can easily afford either one. Thoughts?
Williams is a good option too, but he might get looks from 3-4 teams.
But they didn't, so give it up, you bastid..(GRIN)
The question is Knighton or Williams..:)

Joseph. His first year was high but all that counts is guaranteed $$ to these guys. Joseph and Hankins would have had DT set for years.

Ha like a thorn in my paw. Thanks Doc. Time to Let it go Haha
Williams. need too many other positons to over pay at DT. The need is there for one more body as I think Parterson is gone and Kuhn is no more than depth.
I hear you , but I just think there will be a focus on big bodies given how bad they were against the run. I think they need a Shaun Rogers type.
I agree. I keep wondering whether Malcom Brown is in play at 9, but can't see it with them having invested a pick in Bromley. Instead I expect them to sign a moderately priced 3 technique guy in FA, and then draft another, bigger guy who can sub for Hankins as needed.
Knighton - 528 snaps - 15 qb hurries/hits - 20 stops
Williams - 427 snaps - 14 qb hurries/hits - 22 stops
They were #9 & #10 respectively vs. the run. I think either one would pair up great next to Hankins and make this team much tougher to play against. To Sy's point I think the 3rd guy in this convo is probably Odrick, because he is more of a rusher/penetrator. His numbers are as follows:
Odrick - 817 snaps - 27 qb hurries/hits - 19 stops
*his 2013 numbers were even better with 31 hits/hurries and 29 stops
All told, I'll take any of them + McCourtney + an OL and it will be our best FA class since Boley/Canty/Rolle.
That would be a mistake given a) we ranked 30th vs the run last year; b) Hankins is a great pass rusher for a DT; c) Spags likes to play DEs inside on passing downs.
Right now, the Giants have five DTs on their roster: Hankins, Jenkins, Bromley, Kuhn, and Hamilton. Hankins isn't going anywhere, anytime soon, and neither is Bromley (no matter what the "Jerry Reach" crowd thinks). That's two. Figure Jenkins is not in their long-term plans, but he'll still be on the team in 2015. That's three.
Kuhn (29) and Hamilton (26) are both signed through 2016, but both are also eminently upgradeable. It's not likely, though, that the Giants will cut bait with Kuhn...not this year anyway. That's four. What happens with Hamilton is anybody's guess. I'm not sure if he's PS-eligible, but if he is, that's probably where he'll end up if he doesn't get released outright.
The way I see it, if the Giants sign one of the better free agent DTs to a multi-year deal, I doubt they'll draft one unless the value is overwhelming (and even then it would probably be a mid-to-late rounder). If they don't sign a top-tier UFA, I would expect them to use a premium draft pick on a DT (as they've often done in recent years), and not just as a hedge against Hankins taking the Cofield/Joseph route, but because the shelf-life is limited with Jenkins and Kuhn.
