Bartolo Colon at Max Sherzer!
This might be an opening day preview! I'll be at the game even though NO position starters will be there. lol. I'll try to give a summary tonight sometime to let everyone know what I see. Let's Go Mets!
(Lineups to follow)
According to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith, free agent Phil Coke is expected to sign Friday.
It's not clear where he's headed. Coke has been connected to the Rangers, Royals, and Blue Jays over the past couple of weeks after struggling to drum up a healthy market for much of the offseason. The 32-year-old left-hander registered a decent 3.88 ERA and 41/20 K/BB ratio across 58 innings with the Tigers in 2014. Mar 5 - 8:32 AM

Supposedly the Mets are unwilling to give out a major league deal so it seems unlikely it would be the Mets.
If he was willing to sign a minor league deal - no problem, only lose if a player if he makes the final roster...
1) Look at the other options they currently have
2) His overall numbers mean nothing. They are looking for LOOGY
Dario Alvarez, Scott Rice, Leathersich, Gilmartin... Phil Coke made a ton of sense at that price.

is below average at best. We have enough guys who lose control sometimes.

Eh, i'm not losing sleep that they didnt sign Coke.
3.06 FIP, that's the relevant number. For comparisons sake, Leathersich last year had a 3.46 FIP vs. lefties... in AA/AAA.

I'm kinda down on Lethersich, he's still having control issues.
Minor league deal for Coke is a good move but they didn't so whatever.

HAAAAAAAAAAA
I'm almost convinced that Reckers sole purpose for being on the 25 is to attract a few more women to the games lol. Serves no other purpose.
To me that's the perfect storm. Flores gets plunked on the wrist, swing gets messed up, performance suffers, Tejada starts the season at SS and Flores never gets going.

He's fine. But I share your concern lol

Collins (per Rubin) said he was fine and hit in the glove hand and could possibly have been able to play today. If we don't see him play this weekend, then I'd be concerned.
Yeah but scheduled to travel is usually decided beforehand. I wouldn't read anything into it.
Funny, remember all that hate when he was drafted...

Shows how much you can listen to Collins though. He said Flores will play tomorrow (today) and is fine. Yet he wasn't listed on the other thread as a players r traveling...

Yes, but I'd still read into it.

positive buzz on Milton Ramos right now. Gonna have to hit a bit but maybe he's a poor mans Simmons?

Wasnt he supposed to be an all glove no hit player?
Your not high on Edgin? He was great last year. I know we need to see more, but he definitely seemed to have matured last year.
Edgin. Sure I like what he did last year. But am I 100% convinced he is a mainstay? He is like Faa,ilia was going into last year for me. Could blossom, but wouldn't be shocked to see him in AAA by year end either. Other than being lefty, would you consider. edgin a lock to make the 25 if he threw righty?
Also what Gilmartin does during spring training doesn't really mean much. At the major league level he's pretty much going to be an exclusive LOOGY as he has a history of outstanding splits against them. In spring training however, everyone is trying to get work in, and he likely pitches entire innings. It's not going to be all that surprising if a few right-handed bats smack him around a bit.

Shecky,
I dunno I actually saw quite a few people calling him the best defensive infielder in the draft and that it was a good pick. The Eudor Garcia pick was one a lot of people shit on.

I don't really get the point of that argument. He was devastating against lefties last year which is what we need. He also was pretty good against righties which is why I see Edgin as more than a LOOGY eventually. He's young, he throws pretty hard(for lefty standards). There's a lot to like.

Don't know anything about placement. But I jusst find it funny that Ramos is getting so much buzz, but no one liked the pick. Not like he showed anything special or wowed anyone at GCL last year. Reyes probably played as much at SS as Ramos did there.

Selective memory last season, Edgin gave up the go ahead homer to a light hitting Chris Coghlan after a great Wheeler start. One month later, he gave up a grand slam to Chase utley in a 6-0 loss. It was Hamels versus Gee, so that slam just sealed the game at that time.
Outside those appearances, he gave up only 4ER (2 of the via homerun) all season long, his FIP, K/9, BB/9, and his other peripherals are outstanding. He can definitely be the top LOOGY coming out of any bullpen.

Chris (Larchmont)
Can Matt Reynolds play a mediocre defensive SS? I like his tools and wonder if he's a better option than Wilmer Flores.
Klaw
(10:43 AM)
He could be a fringe-average defensive shortstop, maybe even average. But when you say you "like his tools," what tools do you mean? He's a mediocre hitter without power, so I don't know how much offense you'll get.
Speaking of, as expected Flores did not ride the bus today apparently.

Shecky,
Pretty positive he's saying that about Reynolds.
9th from last in attendance = 9th from last in payroll
Can't wait to the fan reactions of "we promised we would raise payroll if the fans came. Attendance is up 20%, and so is our payroll, near $100mm now"
I haven't been much of a Reynolds fan. Obviously you can't ignore last season that he had. But very, very impressed by the kid so far this spring. He would have been the talk of camp except a few guys stole his thunder. Harvey live pitching while Reynolds was hitting line drive after line drive on the field next to him. Against Matz. Yet not one person of importance in I the media noticed it. Could have been a lucky day, but very hard line drives.
Never wish injuries on anyone, but this is the exact type of news the Mets want to hear more and more of.
