NFT: Islanders - Preds 8pm Game Thread

pganut : 3/5/2015 2:46 pm
Isles are in "Smashville" (as the locals call it...okayyy) to face the Preds. Although still leading the NHL in points, NSH has been out of sorts and have dropped four straight. These are the games that worry me...cannot imagine the Preds come out tonight looking to give any charity.

As Metnut mentioned earlier, Jaro Halak to get the start, and both Casey Cizikas as well as noted sniper Eric Boulton make their returns from IR and into the lineup (Mallrat to sit). Same defensive groupings as last game. My guess is Boulton takes Martin's place on L4.

Cappy on Neuvirth, who will likely get more work than just in the four sets of back-to-back games that remain.
Quote:
"He's going to get some playing time and we don't want to overwork anyone,"
And some more positive news on KO...he skated on Long Island for a third consecutive day. If he continues to progress, he should join the team's practice late next week when the Isles return home.

Funny thing I stumbled across today in hearing about that it's been nearly 13 years (!!) since the Isles last won in Nashville (5-2, on 4/12/2002). Look at the goal scorers from that game: Brad Isbister, Kip Miller, Oleg Kvasha, Mariusz Czerkawski and Mike Peca with an ENG. The goalie for that game?:
Quote:
Garth Snow improved his April record to 2-0, and won his 101st career game. Snow was credited with 23 saves.

Shhh...don't look now, but the PK is actually improved. Perfect in 9 of their last 11 games. Neither Hamonic nor Clutterbuck have been on-ice for an opponents PP goal in that span and they rank 4th and 5th in PK ice-time. Grabner has only been on-ice for 1 goal against, but missed the first couple of games. The PK has done well in this 11 game stretch despite a horrible faceoff win percentage on the kill of 35% (18 of 51)...this is a big issue, IMO.

And while not an Islanders-focused article (although it does make mention of Josh Ho-Sang), this is an important and disappointing read for hockey fans on issues of racism. Let's Go Islanders!

Keep holding on so long
'Cause there's a chance
That we might not be so wrong
We could be down and gone
But we hold on

Potvin.... You around for the game tonight or have a million other things going on?
Great news
Metnut : 3/5/2015 2:52 pm : link
on Okposo. Getting him some games to get ready for the playoffs will be important for our chances.

Tough one tonight, especially so thin at foward, but we still have a lot of talent out there so hopefully we can steal 2 points.
anaheim actually leapfrogged them in points
DaddyM89 : 3/5/2015 2:52 pm : link
they have 91 now.
Hey Tonelli
pganut : 3/5/2015 2:57 pm : link
Yep, around for the whole deal tonight. Was out closing biz on Tuesday night so I can buy you knuckleheads some beers (well, scotch and bourbon for our crowd) in the playoffs!
Okposo

1 week or 2 weeks of practice before a game? Do we just play it safe and bring him back march 24th at home vs minny or before that?
Very concerned playing the Preds right now.
BlueHurricane : 3/5/2015 3:47 pm : link
Law of averages says they have to break out. Although they have looked a steaming pile of my bulldogs morning crapcakes sooner or later they will win.

Hopefully not tonight.
Yeah, I don't have a good feeling tonight either
timintey : 3/5/2015 3:56 pm : link
and the Rangers are scorching hot right now. Any further word on Kennedy? Curious to see how he fits in...
I'm almost certain I know the answer here
Mike in Long Beach : 3/5/2015 4:03 pm : link
But what the hell...

Is there a snowball's chance in hell of Okposo playing against the Rangers?
It'd be 6 weeks to the day
Mike in Long Beach : 3/5/2015 4:03 pm : link
since the 6-8 week timeframe was announced by the club.
Not sure I agree with the viewpoint in that article pga
timintey : 3/5/2015 4:06 pm : link
I don't think race has anything to do with many of the criticisms. There are plenty of white players around the league that are just as criticized. Just look through the Islander and Ranger threads. Pretty disappointed with the author. This is not what the league needs... jmo

pganut : 3/5/2015 4:29 pm : link
You're definitely entitled to your opinion (and certainly don't need me to tell you that). It just seems while there may be criticisms of white players, it's rarer to have it publicly discussed compared to the players mentioned in the article. In our camp, I can't really think of a player who had his work ethic questioned...maybe Kabanov, but we dealt with that internally instead of discussing things in the press...but it seems like the players in the article have unfairly fought criticism that the vast majority of others have not befallen.
true
timintey : 3/5/2015 4:37 pm : link
but around the league there are plenty of examples. Phaneauf most recently...

Niiiiice. Always taste better when free.
The article is decent btw
Mike in Long Beach : 3/5/2015 5:14 pm : link
But the reference to Kane's critiques being part of the problem are ridiculous. That had nothing to do with race. That had to do with the man literally not showing up for practice.
I believe the Islanders
The 12th Man : 3/5/2015 6:35 pm : link
Right now are playing to the level of their competition. Like the fact that Casey will be back. We need a solid effort tonight heading into the next 3 games.
Nice

To know cizikas is back. Boulton has to be way better than mallrat.
