4) Antrel Rolle, S Age: 32. Birthday: Dec. 16, 1982. NFL seasons: 10. Though Rolle seemed to fall off a bit in his fifth season with the Giants, he did rack up 87 tackles, which is pretty good, along with nine pass breakups. I think he's the type who just really loves football and will want to play as long as he can. The former eighth overall pick will never be the fastest in the world, but his high levels of intelligence and competitive fire make up for that. He's very, very smart; in fact, Rolle is kind of like Charles Woodson, in the way that he'll help get his teammates lined up right and guide them on what they're supposed to do in pass defense. He'd be a great addition on a team with a young secondary. |
As far as Brandt , old, tired Cowboy warhorse-go home. The analytics people have retired his usefulness. John Schneider isn't paying attention to Gil Brandt but he is PFF. Where did they rank Rolle? He's lost range. He was never a quick-diagnose guy to begin with. He was effective because of his physical attributes and great, competitive nature. He had a very good run with the Giants. Although he initially teamed with Where Did He Go Webster in complaining about the allegedly complicated nature of Fewell's schemes, at the end he defended PF. The Redskins might be the next stop. That would make for interesting theatre .
PFF so far has proven that it's great at marketing itself as expert in evaluating and comparing players. There's a big market for that between regular NFL and Fantasy NFL.
They haven't proven that their evaluations are correct. There are a lot of contributions a player can make to a team that don't show up in stats. And accurate stats are hard to come by. If an end gets past Beatty for a sack, is that all on Beatty or did a back fail to give him the double team or chip that he was expecting?
Fair point radar, but I doubt Rolle sees himself in the salary slot of that type of player - IMO close or at vet minimum. Everyone with eyes saw Rolle's dropoff last year. I doubt the Giants even view him as more than a 3rd safety going into 2015...
