These are the two guys I fully expect the Giants to go after

Big Blue '56 : 3/5/2015 9:27 pm
No asshattery, just common sense, imo..I'll Let Abrams figure out how the contracts will be worked out..

Jabaal Sheard: Will be 26 in May and did really well in the 4-3 as a rookie..Was not made to be a 3-4 LB as he was last year.. I think this might be Spags' kind of guy..

McCourty or Rahim Morris..Morris, 25, is solid despite his faux pas against the Ravens in the Playoffs a few years ago..Would love McCourty, but a cheaper Morris would be totally fine with me..

Those are my two strong convictions(guesses)..I expect an OL in FA, but have little sense of who it might be, despite many clamoring for Franklin..

Any strong convictions(guesses)?
Sheard is a little smaller

that what the Giants like at the DE position..

Moore is who I expect they will sign.. I think McCourty will be too expensive.

I would expect Sheard to bulk up without sacrificing speed/quickness all that much..
I could

See them going after Brandon Grahem if the Eagles move on. I think he is a better fit in a 4 3.

Possibly. Still think we'll be outbid for McCourty and Moore.

DT?
Graham
pjcas18 : 3/5/2015 9:50 pm : link
was one of the best 3-4 OLB's the past couple years. In fact he was considered a bust until the switch.

I feel like the Giants could sign Bryan Bulaga and a lot of people won't be happy because he'll be expensive and he has an injury history.

but he could prove to be as important a signing as McKenzie was.

Do you really want to go down that injury road, yet again? I've had it up to here with injury histories..

@giantswfan: bills' searcy may be a good value as young safety "

"Buffalo, N.Y. AP • Buffalo Bills safety Da'Norris Searcy will test free agency next week to find out what he's worth after proving himself as a full-time starter last season.

A person familiar with negotiations told The Associated Press of Searcy's plans Thursday. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because discussions between the Bills and the player have been private.

The two sides haven't had contract talks since Buffalo made Searcy an offer two weeks ago, the person said.

Searcy's decision does not come as a surprise after the fourth-year player took over the starting job in place of Jairus Byrd, who left Buffalo in free agency last spring. Searcy finished tied for second on the team with three interceptions in 15 games.

Overall, Buffalo's 2011 fourth-round pick out of North Carolina has four sacks, five interceptions and returned two turnovers for touchdowns in 62 games, including 23 starts.

Searcy's asking price is expected to be too expensive for the Bills' salary structure at the position. Last year, Buffalo signed strong safety Aaron Williams to a four-year, $26 million extension."

No, but Schwartz had no injury history, what happened? Cruz had no injury history, what happened? Prince had no injury history, what happened?

I'm not sure you can approach it that way. If anything maybe it makes Bulaga more affordable.

I thought he was 6'2"... NFL.com has him listed at 6'3 and 264 so thats within the range I think the Giants like DE's.. I deally they like 6'5 and up... but he could be a target.
Rahim Morris?
Big Blue '56 : 3/5/2015 11:42 pm : link
Sheesh, sorry guys
There are a lot of high quality potential NYG vet FA targets.
Red Dog : 3/6/2015 12:21 am : link
Here are some that I think make some sense.

At Safety, in addition to McCourty and Morris, Da'Norris Searcy from Buffalo is a very logical target, and I would not dismiss the possibility of KC's Ron Parker yet, either. They really need to land somebody from this short list of decent Safeties because Rolle will very likely end up elsewhere.

On the OL, Bengals G Clint Boling would be a really nice addition and should be at the top of the OL prospect list with Franklin. With the exception of last season's pass blocking, which appears to be just an off year for him, Boling a pretty solid all around G (PFF numbers) and is supposedly the Bengals best OL. He's a much better fit for the GIANTS than SF's Iupati who is a much better run blocker than pass blocker. (Scuttlebutt has him bound for Buffalo to reuinte with OC Greg Roman.) They might also consider Cowflop Doug Free as a swing tackle to back up the starters on both sides.

On the DL, either Stephen Paea from Chicago or Dan Williams from Arizona would be a really good addition in the middle, and they should definitely investigate to see if ex-Iggle DE Trent Cole has anything left in the tank. Guys like Suh and Jerry Hughes from the Bills simply won't be in the GIANTS price range.

I haven't been studying up on who might be available at RB or LB, but C.J. Spiller should not be on their list. He's simply not worth the money he wants. LB Brandon Spikes is another soon to be ex-Bill who isn't worth the money he wants because although he's a heck of a run defender, he is totally worthless against the pass.
Cherry picking a few guys that could be a fit here
Torrag : 3/6/2015 12:58 am : link
As '56 stated I'll let Abrams piece together the jigsaw puzzle that is the salary cap.

Clint Boling - Very good LG...perhaps the biggest need our team has right now. Played well coming off an ACL this year. IMO he'll be even better this time around. Pure OG unlike Franklin that can play inside or out.

Jared Odrick - would fill the 3 tech DT spot here. He's a disruptive penetrator. He's a little high cut for the Giants usual position type but then again so was Chris Canty.

Low priority signing...DE Adrian Clayborn on a one year prove it deal. Former #20 overall pick has upside potential at 26 years of age. He has had two major yet unrelated injuries. ACL and torn biceps. Has 13.5 sacks across two healthy seasons. Can move inside as a 3rd down pass rusher. Stout run defender.

DE
stretch234 : 3/6/2015 6:40 am : link
Brandon Graham, Andrian Clayborn, DaQuan Bowers & Derrick Morgan

I think 1 of those is signed. These were all so called can't miss pass rushers who have missed thus far and are all 27 & under
Clayborn is an interesting idea
SwirlingEddie : 3/6/2015 6:57 am : link
Good thought Torrag.
Moore's guaranteed cash might be limited by a medical red flag.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/6/2015 7:15 am : link
The lateral compartment syndrome that ended his 2013 season will remain a concern for the teams that pursue him. That's good news on the cap front, and potentially bad news for a team that is already counting on one-man M*A*S*H unit Cooper Taylor and the untested Nat Berhe.

stretch234 : 3/6/2015 7:15 am : link
I have been pushing a Boling signing. He gets no pub, but he is a better all around blocker than both Lupati and Franklin. He will also be cheaper.

I do not think Cincy will resign him because both of their T who are good are entering the final year of their deals, as does AJ Green and Dre Kirkpatrick. Even though Whitworth is 33, Boling is not a guy who can play LT

RetroJint : 3/6/2015 7:55 am : link
He doesn't have the frame to add weight . Think of Tim Green. Same situation. Too light for the Giants except situationally . They gave enough of those guys. Searcy is my pick. The Bills already signed Williams to a long-term lucrative deal last off-season. Can't pay 2 safeties top dollar. That's the only reason why he's available.
RJ, possibly,
Big Blue '56 : 3/6/2015 7:59 am : link
but at around 265, he's not exactly a lightweight..In his later years, Strahan played very effectively at 252 iirc..

as a desirable target last week, not sure if it was RetroJint or someone else. Any of the safeties mentioned above sound good to me; our play at the position has been dreadful for two years, and regrettably that includes Rolle. Love his heart, but his play physically and mentally (anticipation, angles, decisions on which receiver) have been badly lacking.

If we have one solid vet to cushion a rookie or young player (CT? we know nothing yet), it would help solidify.

So much personnel building facing Spags
I'd like McCourty. He would be a good fit.

JonC : 3/6/2015 9:32 am : link
they'll need every cap dollar, and they need to make a few smart, strong UFA additions. Otherwise, this team isn't likely to make a jump to 10-win playoff caliber. imo.

really not resign Graham after having released Cole?

Then again, I guess anything is possible with that team these days.
