NFT: Why is VCU considered a tournament lock?

MookGiants : 3/5/2015 11:07 pm
They have been complete trash since Weber got hurt. And they are supposed to take injuries into account, he's not coming back, this is their team that they are taking to the post season, and it's hot garbage.

As it stands right now, unless they win the A-10 tournament (or make a significant run) they do not belong in.

they just

got absolutely dismantled by Davidson who is a bubble team.
Weak tourney field

All around. This is why I never really was worried about our Johnnies the last 3 weeks.
Even in a weak tournament field

How in the world is Davidson considered a bubble team and VCU not?

If Davidson played VCU on a neutral court with the teams they have right now 5 times, they'd win 5 times. VCU now has 3 straight losses and looked absolutely awful tonight.

If you look at their team without Weber, they are really, really bad.
I know their "resume"
MookGiants : 3/5/2015 11:19 pm : link
says that they are a tournament team, because they have a very good RPI.

But that was built with Weber. Now they don't have him. And now they suck.

They'll get in, but that will be because of their resume built with their best player, and they won't look at how bad they are without him.
My heart breaks for Briante Weber

and VCU fans have my sympathy. It sucks to lose a player of that caliber and who means that much to a team-- and to do so only a few games away from breaking the all-time steals record-- just unfair. VCU just can't run that havoc defense as effectively without him and so it's taken them down a notch.

But there's nothing wrong with losing to Davidson, though. I've seen them up close and they have a fantastic offense. They scored 72 points on my Virginia team that allows 50 ppg. It was the most scored against us by any team in regulation (Miami scored 80 in 2OT). They may be inconsistent relying on deep shooting and they lack size, but when they are clicking, they are very hard to stop. KenPom ranks their offense as the 7th most efficient in the country.
they didn't lose

to Davidson, they never even competed in the game. From start to finish they got their asses kicked.

Yeah, it sucks to lose your best player, but I want the best teams in the field as they currently stand, with the team they will have in the tournament.

It's a shame

Losing Weber just ruined them, plus Graham is playing with a bum ankle.
