in sports. Part of me is glad to see this be stuck on legacy forever. On the other hand, I do feel bad for Syracuse fans. I have family in Syracuse and it's a cool city that is stuck with awful winters and Cuse bball helps people those awful winters.
And you know this how??
All coaches have huge egos, but to call him one of the biggest jackasses is way off base.
Syracuse is getting hit harder for this than PSU for Sandusky Â
at least has the integrity to stick with the program through the scholarship reductions that were the result of his conduct and ensure that Syracuse basketball is at least in solid shape before he retires.
they should have let fab melo play and won a title... punishing people at the time didn't matter in this case...
selective enforcement by the NCAA.... great job--- so in a college town if your local reporters dislike you... your effed.
and whomever said boeheim is a jerk is clueless...
I have to say that Boeheim does not come off as a particularly likeable guy to a disinterested observer. He seems to do a lot of finger-pointing at players through the media. Just my impression.
and have been a fan for over 40 years. I tend to agree with the Ego Jackass comment. JB seems to be getting worse in this regard - i'll be glad when he finally retires. In regards to the scholarships, JB only likes to play 7, so I don't think it's a big deal. Certainly doesn't help, but better than another post season ban.
but the idea that the NCAA's punishment tool is to take away scholarships from potential student-athletes tells you all you need to know about the NCAA. It doesnt give two shits about education.

Plenty of people have said boeheim is a jerk. I guess they are all clueless right?
It's a dirty business and rarely do these Don's get out without the Feds taking them down. Once Boeheim is gone SU basketball will be in worse shape than SU football.
They'll pull scholarships from the end of the bench and allocate then accordingly.
The vacating of wins is a joke. Everyone knows that cuse won those games.
The ncaa throws around terms like academic fraud but fail to explain exactly what allegedly happened.
SU will appeal to get the wins back in the books.
And to suggest by this punishment that Boeheim is somehow responsible for drug testing policy is absurd and demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of an AD.
And I laugh at all of the people who bring up a perception that Boeheim is a bad guy. He's at the top for raising money for cancer research and asa cancer survivor and hall of fame coach he's extremely well respected by his colleague.
His legacy takes a hit? Again. Absurd and reactionary.
Congratulations ncaa you just created yet another PR joke for yourselves.
Not saying he's a bad guy, I don't know much about him at all, certainly not enough to call him that. Just saying that, to an outsider who doesn't know much about him, he often comes across as a jerk in interviews.

He does it on purpose. It's a show for him. All IM concerned with is how he treats his players and sticks up for them the awful Syracuse media attacks. I couldn't care less about how the media feels or misinformed fans who continually make broad generalizations and judgments with no basis in actual fact (not referring to you Greg).
Bottom line is that this is not a big deal and it will not stop them from getting back into the upper echelon of teams starting next year.
it says that Cuse's director of basketball ops and other department members had players' passwords and would email the players' professors as the players. Unbelievable.
I always respected Boeheim and thought he was a solid guy (from public perception) and great coach and this changes nothing.
Maybe though it adds a little perspective for some Syracuse fans on here with the NCAA penalties Uconn has endured (for some seemingly minor stuff) and the propensity for some Syracuse fans to lump Calhoun in the way people are doing with Boeheim to the dismay of some Syracuse fans.
Calhoun, also a cancer survivor (two time?) like Boeheim and is a substantial philanthropist in that regard himself.
I didn't realize the local media was so adversarial Â

You're spot on here. But other than YamaBice us Cuse fans would give you guys a hard time just to talk some shit. We always respected UConn.
And JB and Calhoun are good friends brought together first thru basketball then their mutual battle with disease and subsequent philanthropy.
-As part of this practice, the director of basketball operations and student-athlete support services employees accessed and sent emails from student-athletes' accounts and corresponded directly with professors. Numerous emails included attached academic coursework, which was necessary to maintain the required grades for student-athletes to remain eligible.
- From 2005 through 2007, a part-time tutor and three football students violated ethical conduct rules by engaging in academic misconduct. The tutor certified that the students completed the required number of hours for an internship and gave the professor information about the type of activities performed by the students when he had limited knowledge of activities completed. The students received academic credit for misrepresented work.
- In January 2012, the director of basketball operations and a men’s basketball receptionist violated ethical conduct rules when working to restore the eligibility of a men’s basketball student. The two staff members completed coursework for the student after academics and athletics staff met to discuss potential options for the academically ineligible student. The improper academic assistance occurred in 2012 when the school was under investigation for other potential violations and after the NCAA denied an eligibility wavier for the student.
- From 2010 through 2012, a support services mentor, who would later become the receptionist involved in the 2012 academic misconduct, and a support services tutor provided impermissible academic assistance to three men’s basketball students. The mentor and tutor made revisions, created or wrote assignments for the basketball students
the athletic department was completing coursework for students on a consistent basis over a very long period of time. After looking at the report, 9 games seems light IMO.

Agree B, I've heard the same that the coaches are truly friends off the court, and also agree about the back and forth on here, mostly good natured and I miss it even though I mostly observed it.
indicating that guys like Ennis wasn't ready or saying that MCW would be in the DLeague if he were on a better team instead of rookie of the year is akin to trashing them. He may just be expressing his truthful belief, but that doesn't make him a nice guy or make it appropriate. And when coupled with his personality, it doesn't play well in the minds of much of the public,

Agreed, actually enjoyed our past discussions before those threads got ruined.
This hurts the program big time. A couple of my friends who went there are super angry right now. Seems crazy, and the joke about PSU getting off lighter almost isn't even a joke.
Right or wrong, this will impact the program.... Â
and it will impact Boeheim's legacy. The fact that everyone knows Syracuse won the games doesn't change the fact that every time they talk about winningest coaches, they'll mention that Boeheim was among the leaders until he had 100 plus victories vacated for NCAA violations. I also think this will be used as a tool for negative recruiting by other schools. You can make book on that.
...
Bottom line is that this is not a big deal and it will not stop them from getting back into the upper echelon of teams starting next year.
I have little respect for the NCAA as it upholds the integrity of amateur collegiate athletics; in fact, that notion is a joke, as is NCAA impartiality. I have no axe to grind vs. Boeheim, and used to love the competitiveness that was Big East basketball.
But if these allegations are proved founded, I don't understand how your assessment on this comes down to whether the Orangemen get back into the upper echelon of teams beginning next year. If that's all that matters, are we to infer that you're arguing that Boeheim was doing right by his players, the team, the school, and the sport?
Sorry, but he routinely bashes his players in the post game press conferences. He said after the Georgia Tech game that if McCollough played badly it would be an improvement. Again, the Freshman had been struggling for 5-6 games ahead of that, but stating to the press that he was playing worse than bad accomplishes what exactly? I love what JB has done through the years for 'Cuse BBall, but this kind of commentary has been routine and is getting old. Seems like he could say the Chris McCollough needs to play better and that would suffice.
13th Grades finest garbage man who couldn't even graduate from that fuckin preschool for delinquents. Crawl back in your hole. You'd think getting tooken to school by anak and Fluffy you'd slink back into oblivion. The next sports related comment that you post that makes sense will be your first.
You peaked with your post 07 super bowl opus.
It also seemed pretty shitty not to give his senior walk-on some PT Â
At the end of the Virginia game, which was his last home game. It was 15 points with a minute to play, and we put in one of our walk-ons, plus BJ Stith who's been the last scholarship player off the bench this season. No reason not to give Sanderson a chance to play on Senior Day.

Maybe you should take over the team instead of one of the best coaches in history. You know so much.

He's never put in the walk ons when they're losing.
I understand that Sanderson was a Lipscomb transfer and there to learn to coach and so was not a four-year part of the program, but the game was over. Boeheim even conceded it when he pulled out Christmas with 15 seconds left (to get the proper ovation he deserved). It was Senior Night.
former player, I believe it was Lawrence Moten, giving his opinion on the situation. He made the point that the sanctions weren't fair because the investigation took so long to complete. His rationale was that the punishment wouldn't have been as harsh because the investigation wouldn't have considered the more recent violations.
Yikes.

Seems like a way overboard punishment for the violations

I know this from (i) seeing him act like a jackass almost every time he speaks, and (ii) anecdotes from people who have dealt with him in person.

Have they found who paid Cam Newton yet?
