Lets Discuss Rahim Moore

CromartiesKid21 : 3/6/2015 2:53 pm
Looks like he's squarely on the Giants radar...

Quote:
The Giants are showing interest in free agent FS Rahim Moore.
Devin McCourty is the crown jewel of free agent safeties; Moore is the next best thing. The Giants plan to pursue both, though signing McCourty would come at a greater cost. Moore is expected to command $5-8 million annually while McCourty could go for as much as $10 million a year. Even if Moore doesn't end up in New York, it's a near certainty he's done in Denver.

Unlike McCourty I've watched very few games involving Rahim Moore, anyone have strengths/weaknesses on him? At what value would you see would be an overpay for him?
aside from the one plays
Pep22 : 3/6/2015 2:55 pm : link
which unfortunately will give some a tainted image of him, he is a very good free safety both in space and in man coverage, will hit but not a thumper
My Boss is a Pats season ticket holder

and my college roommate WAS a Bronco season ticket holder. Their opinions on McCourty and Moore were the same, solid yet unspectacular. My boss added that, "have you ever seen the Pats under Belichick let someone walk who had more success with their new team?" The only one I could think of was Damian Woody.

Not much there, but they both think their teams will survive losing each player.
Too add on McCourty, my boss said

he had mentioned over the years that he wants to play with his brother again, so Tennessee seems to be a likely destination (if they have the money).
Unless
Giantfootball025 : 3/6/2015 3:05 pm : link
we really know the defensive scheme and get a film where we actually know the what type of call was made and what coverage is being played; it's nearly impossible to know just how good a player is. We have to leave it to the scouting dept. and coaches to figure that stuff out. Although I can see how regular fans would say either is replaceable, being that neither really made very many jaw dropping plays.
I would avoid both

I think Parker and Searcy are much better value options

That is free agency in general. Teams don't usually let franchise guys go and when they do its because they get super expensive
I think McCourty is just a better football player.
Curtis in VA : 3/6/2015 3:34 pm : link
He can play Safety, Corner, return kicks. Moore is a good safety though and I would more than happy with him being signed as a nice consolation.
If they are about the same player
SomeFan : 3/6/2015 3:34 pm : link
I would go with Moore as he is supposed to be less expensive to sign.
wow if those numbers are
area junc : 3/6/2015 3:44 pm : link
true neither is worth anything close to that.

McCourty is a good starter - nothing more. If he's looking for Pro Bowl $$$ u gotta pass.

Rahim Moore is a fringe starter with major holes in his game. if he wants $5-8M per LMAO!
Moore isn't exactly 'clean', health-wise.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/6/2015 3:45 pm : link
With lateral compartment syndrome, is it even possible to determine the risk of recurrence? And while he's not Chad Jones, does anyone know how much speed/agility he lost?
That's some scar. - ( New Window )

I wonder. Nicks had that his rookie season.
Guess
Giantfootball025 : 3/6/2015 3:52 pm : link
I'd have to disagree with you on Moore. I don't think hes a fringe starter. He'd help this team if the Giants signed him.
you do realize

he's nothing special don't you?
Special?

Depends on your definition of special. To me, Beckham Jr. is special and you can't afford 11 "special players" on both sides of the ball you need to supplement them with solid starters, Moore fits the bill of solid starter.
i'm not saying moore

wtf has he done to make u so crazy about him? he's played a bunch for the broncos and produced very little. also suffered a serious injury. i'm not going to sit here and act like he's better than he is
Well...
2ndroundKO : 3/6/2015 3:59 pm : link
I like the way this is going. From fringe starter to nothing special to not worth $5-8m. Guess what? Moore is a solid starter who probably doesn't deserve that much but will command it in FA because of the scarcity of true FS's. But that's still a long way from some off-the-wall crap like calling him a fringe starter.

WTF has he done to make you say stupid sh*t like he's a fringe starter? Stevie Brown is a fringe starter.
thats what he is.

Rare is the free agent that's actually worth the contract he gets. They're all overpaid. You're not just paying the player's value, you're paying to beat other offers.

Rolle was at one point the highest paid safety in the NFL.

Five ints last year means doesn't "make many plays on the ball." How many would suffice for you? Moore gave up one receptions very 41 snaps last year, good for sixth best among safeties. So please explain to us this plays on the ball nonsense you're talking about. Sounds like you pulled it from the same place you pulled the "fringe starter" crap from.

No but when you don't draft and have the talent young and cheap you gotta pay, it the way of the business.

What does Tom think?
One problem in trying to figure out Moore's value to the Giants...
Big Blue Blogger : 3/6/2015 4:22 pm : link
...is that we have absolutely no idea whether Cooper Taylor and Nat Berhe are good, bad or indifferent. So it's hard to project the upgrade any UFA would represent. If you go by what those guys have accomplished to date, the upgrade is huge and Moore is worth a lot.
Don't expect much from Taylor and
Jimmy Googs : 3/6/2015 4:37 pm : link
Only a bit more from Berhe. Anybody thinking otherwise will only be disappointed.

Torrag : 3/6/2015 6:17 pm : link
Compartment syndrome carries a 10-15% chance of recurrence...and that's for normal people that don't go stressing it like professional athletes. No big contracts for career ending injury risks.
Neither player is truly worth those prices speculated
JonC : 3/6/2015 6:18 pm : link
and if I'm GM, I'm not spending anywhere near those figures on either player.
Combined
JonC : 3/6/2015 6:23 pm : link
they're probably worth closer to $10M.
If this were closer to a contender
JonC : 3/6/2015 6:27 pm : link
and with fewer roster holes, then they could gamble a bit more. But roster as is, overspending is a double whammy.
I've been watching both Moore & McCourty
Big Rick in FL : 3/6/2015 8:53 pm : link
Prior to watching them individually I thought McCourty was the better player. After watching them recently I think Moore is a better player. Doesn't have the best defensive mind maybe ever coaching him. I think he is a better tackler, better Blitzer, harder hitter & just as good in coverage as McCourty. He can cover half the field and when he gets to a receiver on the sideline he let's them know it's his field. He put a hurting on Hakeem Nicks & a Rams WR on the sideline. Idk if I've ever seen McCourty really put a good hit on a receiver. Moore certainly does. Which we haven't had in a long time.

Moore in the right scheme will be a better player then McCourty. I think him with a healthy Prince & DRC would be scary. Hopefully we can go out and get Da'Norris Searcy also. Would be a very good young secondary.

Well said. Also if you sign him you're hoping he gets even better. Dude is just turned 25 a couple weeks ago. Many times you're also paying for potential in FA. I think Rolle is an example, every thought he was way overpaid, just a good player recently converted to safety. I think we'd agree he earned every cent of that contract. They signed a good player as he entered his prime, hoping he can become very good.

Beatty also signed with the hope buy a guy on the ascent.

Rather than paying top dollar for a player at his peak.

And this. when you do sign a FA, its expected the guy will probably be overpaid, and/or paid for what you project a guy to become. Solution is draft better, FA has to be a supplement to be sustainable

Nice post.

Moore is an obvious target for the Giants IMO. As much as I like McCourty I'm surprised to hear we're going to try and pony up $10m after the deal we gave DRC last year. If Moore's range is $5-8m, the Giants could make a competitive offer on the lower end of that scale. Moore is a good player just entering his prime. A solid citizen who practices as hard as he plays. And played a full season (and played it well) coming off a serious injury. He's a pretty good consolation prize. Then add another S either in the draft or FA who can compete with Brown, Behre and Taylor.
Better Safety option is D'Norris Searcy from Buffalo

Don't over analyze the McCourty thing..

if the Pats are letting him walk, you would have to think that it is because McCourty wants $10mm and they feel that they need to spend that money elsewhere.

Given the dearth of Safeties in both FA and the draft, what any FA Safety gets this year is simply a matter of supply (limited) and demand (very high).
