A draft scenario I could live with......

CBSGameFace : 3/6/2015 7:24 pm
Giants trade out of the ninth and pick up La'el Collins with the 13-18 pick while picking up a extra late second, early third rounder.

Preston Smith is still on the board at 40 and we nab him along with Devin Street form Ohio State.

Three needs addressed via the draft which allows us some flexibility in FA. I know FA is first, but if we keep JPP, add a Brandon Graham and an LB in FA.....who knows?

A good time to be a Giant fan. We have our QB. Let's get him what he needs in his twilight years.
It's hard to believe the NFL even has a PED

policy. One quick glance at Landry and it's an open/shut case.
Laughable.
Terribly sorry

wrong thread. Carry on.
I suspect if we trade back to 13-18 pick in the 1st....there would be

We will get a 2nd or 3rd round pick between 13-18.

Getting someone who is willing to give up a 2nd/3rd to move up 4 to 9 spots will be the hard part
Does it, at least, sound possible on the Johnson Scale??
CBSGameFace : 3/6/2015 8:02 pm : link
Haha. Insert joke here.

That doesn't sound unreasonable for that kind of jump. Not at all with idiots
like Snyder and Davis out there.....
Is there a team that actually owns that combination of picks?
Big Blue Blogger : 3/6/2015 8:10 pm : link
Here are the teams with the 13th-18th picks in Round 1:
13. Saints
14. Dolphins
15. 49ers
16. Texans
17. Chargers
18. Chiefs
Currently, not one of those teams owns a pick between #51 (Houston) and #75 (New Orleans). FWIW, if you go by trade value charts, #9 to the Saints for #13 and #75 would be an even trade. Is that what you have in mind? How can you even judge without knowing which players are on the board at #9?
You might lose

Collins.
Ira: That's the key point.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/6/2015 8:24 pm : link
You don't trade down to pick a specific player. You trade up to pick a specific player. You trade down because you have no strong reference among several players who are still on the board... or, on much rarer occasions, because somebody bowls you over with a ridiculous offer.
I disagree.....
CBSGameFace : 3/6/2015 8:38 pm : link
The Giants trading back and acquiring Kiwi reeks of dropping and targeting a player. Why not?

Dropping to acquire more picks = aquiring younger, fresher kids to learn what Spags has for them, system wise, rather than unlearning someone else's scheme. A red chip draft, by most accounts. A euphemism, I'm certain.....
Giants didn't
Mr. Nickels : 3/6/2015 8:46 pm : link
target Kiwi they just knew he'd still be there. They wanted Moss. Remember they traded back up to take Sinorice Moss after picking Kiwi. Pitt used our pick to take Santonio Holmes.
Problem is finding a team
Big Rick in FL : 3/6/2015 8:59 pm : link
That is willing to trade up. Not that many players in this draft where teams will give up a 2nd or 3rd rounder to move up for. We would have to hope that Mariota falls to 9. That is the only scenario I see a trade down.

Except 13 through 18 doesn't need a qb. So the next partner would be Philly and that's not happening. I would be surprised if we had a chance to trade back.
CBSGameFace: Who was the GM in 2006?
Big Blue Blogger : 3/6/2015 9:47 pm : link
Reese has said repeatedly that he would much rather draft his guy a little too early than take a risk of missing him. There may be GMs who differ from his approach, but they are a small minority and not really relevant to a discussion about the Giants' draft.

Besides, who's to say the Giants didn't have eight guys on the top tier of their board when they traded down from 25 to 32 in 2006? All we know is that they liked Kiwanuka. That doesn't mean they didn't like Kelly Jennings or Jimmy Williams.
teams will trade up for the WR's

in this draft.
The Browns & Texans both need a QB
Big Rick in FL : 3/6/2015 10:25 pm : link
Supposedly the Browns like Mariota a lot. If the Eagles gave up something between what we gave for Eli and the Skins for RGMe which is fair for them moving up 10 spots then I can definitely see the Giants accepting the trade. Depends on if they feel that Mariota is a franchise QB.
Teams will be interested in WRs for sure
Big Rick in FL : 3/6/2015 10:27 pm : link
If Cooper or White are there then I think the Giants take select whichever player is available. So yes teams might be interested in moving up, but I don't think the Giants would be interested in moving down.

Not impossible, Ras. I'm more about the kids drafted in my OP. We won't get Collins, Smith and Smith with our first three picks.

Nice to dream though. I'm high on both the Smiths and Collins, FWIW.

Here are the teams with the 13th-18th picks in Round 1:
13. Saints - Brees, no replacement in sight.
14. Dolphins - Tanneyhill? Ok.....
15. 49ers - New regime and Kap?
16. Texans - Mallett and Savage? Ok, again
17. Chargers - Rivers, no replacement in sight.
18. Chiefs - Smith and a contract that is easy for the Chiefs to let go of.

To say these teams DEFINETLY don't need a QB is overstating it a bit......
You have the Eagles at 20 who are rumored to be considering
wgenesis123 : 3/7/2015 9:45 am : link
trading up twice to get their man. Still its an old rumor and its a rumor.
