Dude is extremely emotional about leaving the Giants.
Hopefully somebody else can transcribe or provide more highlights.
Most impactful exchange so far was when he was asked, "If Reese came to you and asked, 'how do I replace you...what do I need to do?'?
Trel paused and had to catch himself a couple of times, holding back...said something to the effect of 'Nobody outside the team will ever have any idea how much the Giants asked of me. Every week, they would pull me aside and tell me what then need me to do for the team, defense. 100% of the time, I wouldn't hesitate, and I'd do whatever they asked of me.'
I don't blame any of these guys for going after the most $$. It's a short career. But spare me the tears. He could have stayed if he wanted to take less $$. I respect the fact that he didn't.

They let him go test free agency without making an offer until the last minute.
It looks bad, and it looks like they didn't want him.
hahaha ! we've seen it before !
You are right. As nice of a gesture it sounds, it also sounds like the Giants did not have a solid plan in place, came up short.
If they wanted him at the price supposedly offered last minute, that should have been done upfront. The team should put a price on a player and then not go above that, but it sounds like - again if this is true - that they were caught flat footed.
It's a business..Can't use emotion here..If, as many here often have stated of late, he's lost it skill-wise, it's clear they didn't want him back..I wouldn't bet against him joining the Giants staff when he retires..
Because of Trel, we were able to get a ring in '11 ('12)..Because of the Giants, Trel was able to see every penny of his $37(?) million dollar contract
Still holding out hope for Parker...

Making him a last minute contract offer does not imply they didn't want him, it implies the exact opposite. I don't think they offered him something they didn't want him to take.
This isn't about whether he should have been brought back, this is about them making no effort to bring him back, and then suddenly trying to make an offer, which looks like they had to jump to Plan B. Plan B didn't work, so what plan are we on now?
Definitely see the argument for letting him walk but again it looks like we were indecisive and failed to implement our plan.
I'm not jumping to any conclusions, sometimes less is more and it is still early days but let's say we witness a third consecutive year of non-competitive football this free agency period is gonna be tough to swallow.
I'm on record saying I'd rather have kept Rolle for the money he got, but I wouldn't take this as the lack of a plan or a last minute panic offer. If you want to criticize anything, it's letting him go without making a bigger effort to re-sign him before FA started. Whether or not that's a mistake is yet to be seen, but that's really what has you upset.

EA, if we suffer devastating injuries for a 3rd straight year, I guarantee you we will be non-competitive, no matter what we do in FA, imo..
EA, how've you been?
It's business not personal. And again, I don't blame any of these guys for going after the max $$ that they can get. NFL = Not For Long

This is not the same as when you are competing for a FA that just became available. There were months to determine where negotiations would start, and most likely, what price was top dollar. It doesn't seem like the negotiation got dragged out and we were just outbid. It seems like they wanted him back bad enough to up their offer at the 11th hour. That tells me either a) they had another plan that did not come to fruition, necessitating that they raise the offer; or b) they wanted to keep him but did not offer him their best deal until it was all but entirely too late.
Again, this is all based on what little information we as fans have, and losing Rolle is likely not going to make or break the season, but it does give the appearance of a front office that is moving from contingency to contingency.

This is more risky, but it's obvious that Rolle didn't fall into the category of 'guy we'd really like to keep'. I think that's where the mistake was, they might have undervalued Rolle's contributions in 15-16 vs. what the FA market and draft have to offer at S, but I don't think they botched the negotiation.
It is not just injuries. This time needs to have a sense of urgency because Manning and Coughlin are not here forever. It needs to execute its plans flawlessly in the next 15 months if we are to get a third trophy under Eli.
I'm not advocating Reese get fired or lunacy like that. But I am worried that we are not as sharp as we need to be right now.
if the fund doesn't earn, your out.
The guy has been here for years and the best chance to keep him - if they wanted him - is when they were the only ones negotiating. If they let him go negotiate a similar deal with another team, then they negotiated very poorly.
It's hard and I am torn on it but from a football standpoint I think it was the right decision. And that's hard for me to admit because I really love the guy and think he meant a lot to this football team.
when u consider the fact the entire D was built around him it makes the fact he didn't make any plays even more glaring. it was all set up for him to have huge success in Fewell's scheme. 2013 is what they were hoping for every year with Rolle.
that's why he's one of the only players who doesn't get the "Fewell excuse" from me. That was a system for him, built around him.
Reese et al did exactly the right thing with Rolle. But it's a screw-up if they don't figure out how to replace his leadership on and off the field while also upgrading the safety spot.
What I'm upset about is devoid of talent we seemingly appear to be at safety. We have no clue with Cooper or Behre, though Cooper did look good before he got injured.
Our defense looks terrible at THIS moment. Obviously a lot can change & will change before the first kickoff, but I'm getting somewhat worried, especially since my confidence in Reese has been badly shaken in these last few years.

Good post
The biggest thing is that this team totally lacks leadership. Rolle was IMO the best leader we have. His ability to teach the young guys how to prepare, how to act, how to be a pro will be missed. All of the intangibles that he brought to the team was worth what he was asking.
Right now, our defense is just a collection names on the back of a jersey with no heart. JPP is a guy that can make a few spectacular plays but is not a leader. We have no leader and no identity.
However, why the team is bringing back terrible players who have no business being in blue while also letting a guy like Rolle go is beyond me.
