Cowboys FA DE + one-time Giants tryout George Selvie is expected to visit the #Giants today. ... So yeah, they are intrigued. Again. #NYG
If he did that in 2014-5 he would have got a 50 million dollar contract ;)
Wouldn't mind him as we continue to fill out the roster with quality rotation guys and Reese did say we like to heavily rotate DL and send them in waves.
It's likely going to be either Selvie or Anthony Spencer. While Spencer showed flashes late in the season, I think that Selvie gets the edge. He's younger (27 compared to 30), and he's been more consistent in terms of his ability to remain on the field. Selvie played 16 games in each of the last two seasons, and while 2014 wasn't as productive as 2013 for the defensive end, we know about his potential. He had 45 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, seven sacks, a forced fumble and a pass deflection in 2013. I won't say that he's a "must re-sign" player for the Cowboys this offseason, but they need to make sure they have an answer at the left defensive end spot.
is no better than any other defensive lineman already on the roster. There is a reason the Cowboys have not tried to resign him. And the Cowboys are DESPERATE for help on the defensive line.

Guess Hardy made Selvie expendable....
I'd like Selvie for a season as a hedge against Moore and Wynn.
who is he replacing: JPP, Ayers, Hankins, Moore, Jenkins, Ellis, Bromley, Wynn, Kuhn. The obvious answer is Kuhn. Is Selvie better than Kuhn? I get the difference between DT & DE, so if you are going to look at it from that perspective, which DE are the Giants going to replace with Selvie?
to draft a DE so do we really have room for 2? Who is going? I won't believe it if we don't draft DE. Tells me they could ride out this year and go Oline and Safety.
that we need in the off season - he has some seasoning now - and playing with JPP again might invigorate him - he certainly did show some potential in 2013 - maybe there is a reasonable explanation for his downturn in 2014 - in any event he's a run stopper - and a rusher
Some here may disagree but we have quite a few core guys at the premium positions already in place: Eli,OBJ, Beatty on O. DRC,Prince (who I believe will be resigned),JPP,Hankins and then some emerging guys like Moore (who I think takes a big leap under Spagnuolo) and Kennard on D.
The roster may not be exactly where we want it but the cupboard isn't bare and I have faith Reese will put together another strong draft this year.

Exactly. You can't have world beaters at every scaffold of the depth chart. Even though you don't know exactly what you have in Wynn, you know you have a smart, hard working player, who did nothing but hold his own when he got into the lineup last year. If Selvie is your 5th DE, you could do a whole lot worse.

You make all good points and I can not argue with you. We do have a core of players, the question I have though is this, will this core be any good? We have had a few bad seasons now, and I am starting to get concerned. I want to be optimistic, but you have to admit, we had such bad drafts that our depth started to be affected and now that has grown into out starting core players also, and the results have been 3 seasons without a playoff appearance. I think last years draft was better, but we have got to hit on this draft, we can not afford any more bad drafts right now or this will get out of hand.

PaulN I agree with this 100%. My thought on this is simple. The Giants shot their wad BADLY trying to get that Superbowl in Giants stadium in 2013. They went to a Superbowl in 2011 and thought they were close to getting back there in 2013. Thus they took A LOT of risks in the draft IMO and hanging onto players that were falling off in performance a season or two TOO Long.. Snee. Diehl. Tuck.. etc etc
Then in 2013 they had to shift their ideology which is why we are seeing better drafts in 2013 and 2014.. The injury issues have be huge.. We need to build depth from the bottom up so we stop wasting middle and late round draft picks on guys who should be able to play and help on specials.. and it turns out they SUCK on specials..
I agree 100% they REALLY need to nail this draft...
Yep, Selvie had a huge junior year and was pegged as a future 1st rounder.
Probably not since it was Ross, not Reese, who made those comments.

Far cry from Strahan Tuck Osi Kiwanuka though or JPP Tuck Osi Kiwanuka
Depending on what we offer i.e if the signing bonus/guaranteed money is low, we could just see Selvie as a hedge against Ayers health.

but let's not overrate Wynn just yet either, and Ayers is still on the mend.

scot, yup, and if we draft a DE then two of the collective are out the door.

smart moves.
wait and see how all the linebackers fit, assume that unit is a work in progress, but the moves there seemed rational as well.
they are inching back towards players who know the game and make plays, which makes sense, and guys who are not injured
Yes - it was all Selvie. Suddenly the "other" DE was doing backflips and caught some attention with his play on the field.

If the injuries normalize a bit and Steve replicates his previous success here that would go a long way to improving our performance on the field.
