I'm probably the only one on this board that has no idea what this is. Could someone enlighten me?
You're not the only one

it's an opportunity for veteran free agents to re-establish themselves
It's exactly what it sounds like

Workout Combine for free agent Veterans.

Great idea in my opinion.
It's basically a league-wide workout
JonC : 3/22/2015 9:46 am : link
for NFL veterans to try and score jobs.

Here is a list of participants.
YANKEE28 : 3/22/2015 9:47 am : link
Several are former Giants. There is no medical records, or individual team meetings- just the TV stuff you see with the regular combine. Expect plenty of air time devoted to Michael Sam on the NFL Network.

This is helpful because all the major team management is in Arizona anyway for the League Meeting.

It puts everyone in one easy location. Players had to pay $400 and complete an application. Not all applicants were accepted.

It is a TON about publicity. Every player participating is free to sign with an NFL team at any time. Bet on a dozen or so players signing based on these workouts.

veteran X-nfl players that are no longer getting opportunities...
George from PA : 3/22/2015 9:52 am : link
For one reason or another....get another chance to showcase themselves.

Replicating the combine that the rookies do........is how I understand it.
It's fodder for the NFL Network
JohnB : 3/22/2015 10:12 am : link
not much less
Ex-Giants include Goodin, Scott, Sebetic, Fox, Starling.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/22/2015 10:42 am : link
I don't see anyone who would be likely to interest the team much now. They might give Starling or Sebetic another look, given the hole at safety.
I might watch...

on the oft chance the Northwestern QB will turn into a large insect.
I'm surprised Ray Rice
Jay on the Island : 3/22/2015 11:47 am : link
isn't participating. You would think he would want to show up in great shape to entice a team to give him another chance.

Rice may be making a calculated decision to not be associated with what might be viewed as a bunch of losers that no one wants

I want to lawl at this, but don't get it.
Yeah, I've heard Michael Sam's name .....
CBSGameFace : 3/22/2015 1:51 pm : link
.......associated with this also.

This is supposed to be the veteran's combine?? Sam doesn't qualify as a veteran. Big NFL dog and pony show. Nothing to see here.

. Football is a game of youth and athleticism. Some will likely have the skills to continue and some will not and have to move on in their lives to the next phase out of football.
it's not live tonite - it will only be what the NFL wants you to see

Perhaps some RBs running slow 40 times
I am
jtfuoco : 3/22/2015 5:12 pm : link
interested in seeing what RB Scott runs in the 40 and compare it to his college combine numbers. He seemed to really slow down in his last year with the team wondering if it was injury related or if he really just slowed down.
da'rel scott ran a 4.74
CMicks3110 : 3/22/2015 5:14 pm : link
terrible.
more Ham'N'Eggers on that list then in IHOP

Veterans were charged $400 and had to pay their own way to their combine today. NFL = the greediest MFers on the planet.
