Graziano: NYG okay with letting Eli play out his current contract

Defenderdawg : 3/22/2015 10:41 pm
"PHOENIX -- The New York Giants recently had another conversation with the representatives for quarterback Eli Manning, but the two sides are no closer to agreement on a contract extension and the Giants are comfortable letting Manning play out the final year of his contract, two sources close to the situation told ESPN.com on Sunday."

Eli thinks he will have a monster year . 2nd season with new offence . Now has a check down back in Vareen. Hopefully he's right .
Please not a big deal
blueblood : 3/22/2015 10:49 pm : link
Eli isnt going anywhere. More than likely and what is smart on his part and the agents part is to get more numbers.. What kind of contract will Russell Wilson and Cam Newton get.. also Philip Rivers..

Eli is going NOWHERE..

Doesn't surprise me at all.
Coming from this moron...

We can likely expect an extension announcement by the end of the week.
Everybody is on notice

Good to see

If he goes down and the team is picking in the top 5 or Nassib plays well, you never know.
If the Giants allow Eli to leave in 2016...
Vinny from Danbury : 3/22/2015 10:56 pm : link
it'll be as moronic as the time they made Phil Simms leave the team.

Not even a focus of consideration.. Cap is going up big next year.. Eli can get franchised.. He is not going anywhere..
Mara himself said nothing was imminent, but “obviously something will
Devon : 3/22/2015 11:01 pm : link
get done at some point,” regarding an extension.

Whether it's the right move or not, they're pretty clearly not letting him walk or putting him on notice. Much like the last deal, both sides will probably find a more common ground well after the draft, possibly into the pre-season, and something will get done then.
this is a leak
CMicks3110 : 3/22/2015 11:06 pm : link
negotiating tactic, nothing else IMO, i bet something is done in mid-to-late august.
It's a safer bet for us than it is for Eli
BlackLight : 3/22/2015 11:25 pm : link
Because I have to think that Eli will stay in NY for a competitive offer. The risk is, if his durability luck should run out this year, he's really going to regret not making a deal while he still could.
Eli's not going to move on a whim;
81_Great_Dane : 3/23/2015 12:46 am : link
he's been living in the area a long time, he's got a family...

But there are places that could ease the pain of that move with a lot of money, lower taxes, better weather and a home base closer to his home town.

If Brees continues to slip I wonder if the Saints would come after Eli. Not a great move for a rebuilding team, but great PR.
Fine by me
illmatic : 3/23/2015 12:58 am : link
He's not going to want to go to another franchise. And unless he puts up some amazing season, nobody is going to offer him a ton of money at age 34 or whatever he'll be.
Guy has another 5 years in him
OBJ_AllDay : 3/23/2015 1:25 am : link
I truly believe that. Everyone with 2 eyes can see what he can do when given solid protection and having playmakers. I for one don't want to see OBJ's prime years wasted on whoever comes after Eli, He will retire a Giant.
Wish
TommyWiseau : 3/23/2015 2:15 am : link
Eli would take one for the team and only ask for 15 mil a season. Would be huge having that extra $$ to build the defense
Eli might be gambling on having a big year...
BlueLou : 3/23/2015 5:03 am : link
And Reese gambling that no GM will look at Eli's age and body of work and break the bank for him.

Hopefully they are BOTH RIGHT!

A lot can change in a year. Still, In the most likely scenario - by far - Eli is a Giant for life.

Nassib to step in or w draft a new QB next year.

it to #9...
No really, we'll see what happens next year. Cap does go up, and see how the team does and if they stay the course. A bad season may usher in a new coach and GM.

Are there any good QBs in next years draft?
reese gambling?
blapre74 : 3/23/2015 7:33 am : link
i don't think so, since the Giants hold all the cards. Eli has had a very good career with the team, but they should draft a qb if a good one falls into their laps. by the time this team gets good (a few years at least) Manning will be close to done. :)_
So
AcidTest : 3/23/2015 8:03 am : link
you've got Eli, JPP, Prince, and Ellis effectively playing on year contracts. Nice. Should be a fun offseason.
Twitter nonsense
SoZKillA : 3/23/2015 8:07 am : link
@DrewBoylhart: RUMOR; #Giants are comfortable letting Eli Manning play out final year of his contract. TRANSLATION; like what they see in Ryan Nassib #NFL
Wrong Boylhart,
Andy in Halifax : 3/23/2015 8:12 am : link
Totally wrong.

Translation: Condon's price is too high.
Eli's cost for this year is a reasonable 17m
AnnapolisMike : 3/23/2015 8:12 am : link
And they can tag him next year if they want. If I am the Giants....I wait and see how the season goes and then make a decision based on that. The risk here is on Eli.
Do not think his career ending as a NYG
Jimmy Googs : 3/23/2015 8:17 am : link
is a lock. This franchise is precariously in a struggle to figure out who it can rely upon and that runs from the front office all the way to its backup QB

I don't doubt Eli since he puts in the work to succeed. But his ultimate departure could be more a function of cleaning house if there is not a move up into a more competitive threshold for this team.

If I am the Giants, I would let him play it out also..
EricJ : 3/23/2015 8:20 am : link
he did not want to restructure to help us with the cap situation so then why reward that decision with an extension? Unless you can do it without guaranteed money beyond next year.
.....
Micko : 3/23/2015 8:26 am : link
There is no reason to believe Eli won't go for the highest contract possible. This idea that he's going to get paid less to help out the Giants is a BBI pipe-dream IMHO. I'm all for letting Eli play out his contract as I'd like to see Nassib in another training camp. I hope we have a Favre/Rogers situation on our hands. However, if Nassib stinks up the joint in pre-season then extend Eli immediately. lol.
He's not going anywhere
Route 9 in LEH : 3/23/2015 8:26 am : link
Fix up the offensive line and get the running game at least back to mediocre before thinking about cutting ties. That includes fixing up the defense that doesn't allow big scores to cancel out being scoring drives by the offense.

I hope Nassib is Rodgers

after Eli retires
My
AcidTest : 3/23/2015 8:31 am : link
guess is he gets extended, but I have no problem with letting him play out his contract. He'll be 35 after the end of next season. He could play very well for another three or four years. Or maybe not. Athletes in their mid 30s can lose their effectiveness, even if they don't suffer some type of major injury. It's not a given he plays until his late 30s.

Eli
Dragon : 3/23/2015 8:46 am : link
Is still very much this team QB, we don't even know what to believe but there is no rush to do anything both sides are holding little advantage. I like the idea to see what he does it's not like he is not being paid well and this season could see the end of a regime. This year is really a season of show me or say good bye for many members of this team.
I take this to mean
ron mexico : 3/23/2015 8:47 am : link
That Eli is giving no home town discount more than the Giants are considering moving on

both sides have stalemate inducing leverage i would think

imho
Bill2 : 3/23/2015 9:00 am : link
just first reaction and no data behind it....its about length of contract. That's where both sides would have a different sense of enlightened self interest. Its the flash point of all franchise QBs and teams...the end game and how to plan for it and deal with it.

Same as founders of great companies...when do you quit?
Best case scenario
dep026 : 3/23/2015 9:09 am : link
is Eli throws for 4,500 yards, 35 TDs, with a 13-3 record, another SB win and a SB MVP. That way he asks for more money, so a small part of BBI could just complain...

We all know its going to happen!
I wonder if Eli would accept a contract
debo_GIANTS : 3/23/2015 9:13 am : link
that was a 4 or 5 year deal, but at 15M per year and fully gauranteed.

This gives the team flexibility to sign other players under the cap and ensures the player is set for life.

I hope he doesnt hold out for a top 5 QB contract or even what Big Ben just got from the Steelers.

No way I see that happening

He will get 60 mil guaranteed on his 120 mil deal, why settle for 60 mil guaranteed on a 60 mil deal?

If Tom Brady can Give a Hometown Discount
NYGNYY : 3/23/2015 9:31 am : link
So can Eli' What's there to play hardball about ? NYG Traded for him or be a freakin Charger, Has 2 Rings and a stupid amount of money. NYG has been very good to Eli and a little suttin suttin would only help Eli now.

Did Stafford, Ryan, Ben, Cutler, and Dalton give their teams hometown discounts?

I never understood why fans expect players to ask for less. Do you ask for less in your job?

JonC : 3/23/2015 9:43 am : link
About a 1% chance it happens with Condon as the agent, and I don't blame Eli one iota.

Also, prepare to get smacked around over the "Brady discount" belief ...
How much
Metnut : 3/23/2015 9:44 am : link
would Eli get if we tag him?
Tag would be an average of the top 5 contracts at the position
debo_GIANTS : 3/23/2015 9:49 am : link
definitely north of $20M
Eli comes from a very wealthy family
debo_GIANTS : 3/23/2015 9:51 am : link
has already made well over $100M in his playing career.

Him and his brother are on every other commercial, tons of endorsement $$$

Give the team a discount and lets go get another ring!!!
agree with Bill2 here
JonC : 3/23/2015 9:53 am : link
Given Eli is 34, term is perhaps the biggest obstacle when others are securing five year pacts.

It's a given he'll get $20M per season, but it makes sense a team is careful about a deal that goes beyond, let's say a QBs' 37th or 38th b-day. It's not a given Eli will still be an upper caliber player at such an age, and he's been very well paid throughout his NFL career.
