his next contract? Assume that Eli wants to play another 4-5 years, how would you negotiate what would be best for Eli (and you)? Taking into consideration Eli's accomplishments, the cap for next year and next years FA QB's, what kind of deal would you settle for?
"Pay him and watch him win one more."
JPP on the other hand has all the leverage. We probably aren't offering him much more guaranteed $ than the amount he's guaranteed to get on the tag. Even if he takes the exact deal the Giants are offering him now next year, he will have 14M more in his pocket when he does so.
They really just need to wait for the Giants to come to them. Yes, there is a possibility of a sub-par season next year, but the greater odds are he is going to continue along what he did this past season.
The Giants are going to have the pressure as they won't be able to retain both Eli and JPP if they don't get a deal done with at least one of them.
A big, back loaded one.
The Giants have ZERO leverage.
Eli has probably 50 million or so in guaranteed salary left in his NFL career. The agency representing him should be working to secure that as soon as possible.
Eli set for life and the Giants reduce their % of cap dedicated to one person.
Having a coach and GM whose positions are on the line is not very conducive to extending your franchise QB who has won two SBs with the current guy.
The Giants are a class organization and Eli has been a stand up guy. I think the two sides will agree to something.
Yep. He has to show that he can be a force on his own. And I still think he belongs at LDE, not RDE. He isn't a natural pass rusher. He is a dominant run defender and would go up against normally weaker pass blocker at RT.
He is under contract for this year....
Depending on what he does this season, determines the contract they offer.....
Now, if he wants something like 5 years, at big bucks, that is too much of a gamble....you franchise him after this season....he gets his money, and see what he does in 2016, when they should have their best team....the franchise tag will only cost about 3M more than his cap right now, and with the cap being extended, there will be enough cap room to surround him with better players....
He gets paid big bucks, guaranteed at the start of the season, and if he plays well, they can negotiate a favorable contract in 2017, or they can go the franchise route again....Eli gets his money, and it protects the Giants from long term disaster...win/win....
Eli is not leaving the Giants, unless they let him go.....and that's not happening...

Don't underestimate how much of a factor this is playing. This is a "wait and see" year for the coaching staff and possibly the GM. Why would you enter into a long term deal with an aging (but very good) QB when you know there is a real possibility that you may be bringing in new coaches and a new system? Any incoming coach would know they need to win with an aging QB they did not select, and he would be learning a new offensive system for the 2nd time in 3 years. As a new HC that does not spell "success story" and may limit the pool of coaches you have to choose from.
I don't think that is the primary motivating factor, but I'm pretty sure it is a consideration for the front office as they proceed with Eli's contract.
Treat him like an account exec, you don't win you do not get paid good compensation beyond an average base salary. Right now he gets paid for great, average, and shit seasons because he has 2 rings. Shit changes, we stink right now.
And in 2017 (which is also the last year of Nassib's deal) there are no top QBs as UFAs. So, are they going to turn the franchise over to Nassib, one of the other FAs, or find the next franchise QB in the draft? As the agent I think MY cards are looking pretty good.
He's done everything that's been asked of him, and then some.
I'd hold out.
All it takes is one hit, and that 100 million dollar next contract goes bye bye.
Go ahead get to the playoffs with nassib.

Seattle did it with Russell Wilson. What would have led to anybody believing that Wilson could be a Super Bowl QB?

The tag for Eli will be more than that. Minimum it will be 21Mil, but I think it will be more like 24Mil
Doesn't have to be the norm. Nassib was touted as a possible 2nd rounder. Somebody saw talent.
His body of work doesn't show starter, but with this system, seems a 'good' QB could make it work, especially when you add the run/scramble into the equation.
He is a complete unknown.
