I know this was discussed briefly on the Rangers Ducks game thread but I wanted to go full bore on the topic. How concerned as a fan are you that Hank will not regain his form when he returns. I Know he will be fresh as a daisy and that's a plus but will he be as effective as Talbot is at this point. And how long will it take for him to find his game and if he doesn't what does AV ultimately do.
Cam is doing his best Lundqvist imitation and while I love Hank and he deserves the opportunity to finally win a cup it is really hard to ignore what Talbot has done and continues to do as the season winds down. I don't care what anyone says, it's been a long time Hank has been out and Talbot is as hot as a goalie can be. AV has to be thinking to himself how do I take this guy out of net with the way he is playing and everything that is at stake in hopes Lundqvist will pick up where he left off.
I just don't see it. It's been too long he's been out to just assume the whole ball of wax come hell or high water. He needs time and there isn't a whole lot of it left. And what time is left is it enough for him to find his groove. Maybe we're worried about nothing and Hank picks up where he left off. I hope so because it sure sounds like what every one is saying that when he comes back he's the man from then until the end.
He was playing really well before his injury, and this was prior to the team taking it up another notch defensively.
Hank is the starter and will start every playoff game unless he has a setback or looks absolutely terrible for more than a game or two.
He didn't forget how to play goalie in 6 weeks. He just needs a few games to get back into the swing of things. He was playing very well before he got hurt...and so was the team. This hot streak didn't just happen because of Talbot. It started before Hank ever went down.
I am usually a guy who would follow the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" line of thought, but how do you possibly sit Lundqvist if he is healthy? I don't think you can.
To wit - 16-4 in Lundqvist's last 20 starts.

Yup. There's this false narrative being written that Talbot turned the teams fortunes around and that they were struggling with Lundqvist. It's not true.
Since this is a Giants site, let me put it another way - - - if Eli gets injured and Nassib plays very well to get the Giants into the playoffs who starts once Eli is ready? Who do you want to play in the Super Bowl? Eli and Hank are NY's super-stars. When they're ready, they play.
He would have to pass thru waivers to play in Hartford.
So 99%.
It's pretty much foolproof

I don't understand why Lundqvist couldn't do a weekend stint in Hartford this past week. Give the pampered fuck Dolan's jet for the weekend.

I thought there was a two week conditional stint exception.
Thanks.

GDI. :(

I'd really hate to sit Glass.

Yeah I did too, I was wondering the same thing but I saw the waiver thing somewhere, prob a beat writer on Twitter.

Sit Glass, move Boyle to Wing, and Hank and Cam at the same time.

Sacrifices must be made
Lundqvist said that he has a neck protector that will prevent him from getting “whiplash” and that he has been cleared for full contact. (SVT via Expressen)
He said that he was trying to protect his neck and avoid certain pucks during the first on-ice session where coaches were shooting on him but he has grown more comfortable with each on-ice session since. (SVT via Expressen)
Lundqvist will take part in the Rangers morning skate today.
I hate being wrong.
My knowledge of the CBA is pretty poor. For the life of me I dont understand why we can bring up an AHLer when we have $10 million in NHL contracts sitting on LTIR (Hank, Klein).
With the recent injury, I wonder if he changes his style up, which might cause some issues since hes always played those kind of shots the same way.
I dont disagree with that statement, but it is what Hank is comfortable doing. Playing pucks a different way after playing them a certain way your whole life might take some adjusting.
Is the risk small but the potential harm very large?
We don't know what kind of psychological hangover this might have, if any.
Maybe they reconfigure the mask so it's really hard to come unhinged
and expose the neck area?
Back to the ice, I view tonights' game as a very large tell: LA is trying to get back, and a strong performance by the Blueshirts will go a long way to erasing the sting of last June.
You would think Hank has to take a number of high shots before he's completely comfortable.
Most athletes think they're indestructible. I wouldnt assume Hank is scared of shots. He's probably been pissed from day 1 that he's not out there, questioning the conservatism of the doctors. But great timing vis a vis the birth of his kid.
He's been out of real game action for an extended period, it's difficult to imagine there won't be a conditioning/adjustment period. A real good test would be facing Ovechkin's one-timer from just above the faceoff circle on the Caps PP.

Right. I could see him being pretty meh for 3-4 games, just getting back into the flow. He's always a guy who starts the season slowly. I hope it just does not take him weeks to get his shit together.
Now, if he comes back and he plays how he did the first part of the season....then there really is a decision AV will have to make.
If this fails completely, and hank somehow is not the same at all, he loses his confidence because of this injury, then we have Talbot to take over. So I think we are in great shape in this area, I think it is a HUGE positive that Talbot has played so well, you have to really be a negative thinker to think this is a negative, or a shit stirring writer that wants to make a story, so he plays on people's fears. But there is nothing negative about hank coming back, it's all good.
