NFT: Seattle trip ideas?

Wuphat : 3/24/2015 12:49 pm
I'm heading out to Seattle in two weeks for some training. I fly out on a Monday and fly back on Saturday. My evenings will be free. Any ideas of what to do besides the Space Needle and maybe a Mariners game?

I'll be staying downtown near the Needle, and will have to rely on public transportation.

Any specific restaurants or other "to dos"?

Great place

Lots to do downtown, restaurants are terrific.

Any Tom Douglas place is good, and local. There's a dive bar that is also a diner called Five Points. Very local scene and it's open 24 hours.
I walked around

the Pike Place fish market and the pubs and shops around there.

good time. lots of good beer selections and good food.

don't remember the names of places though.

It's called "The 5 Point Cafe". "Alcoholics Serving Alcoholics since 1929".

my business associate and myself were called out on loudspeakers and harassed by four cops in two patrol cars. I thought they thought we robbed a bank
Pike Place is a must

.. at night in the downtown area. Zig Zag cafe in downtown area is great for cocktails. Palace Kitchen is a very good spot, Tom Douglas' best restaurant imo. Pink Door is eclectic and fun for Italian. Shiro sushi is good. Shiro was the sous chef for Jiro in Tokyo.. recognized as the best sushi in the world. For beer .. you'll have a hard time finding a better American Brewery than Fremont Brewing in Seattle's Fremont area (a five minute cab ride from downtown). The town has alot of Uber and Lyft access.
ALso, Capitol Hill is fun for a night out.

also bring and umbrella

LOVE Seattle

Used to live there, and am likely moving back. Serious Pie is walking distance from where you're staying and great pizza. Also, check out the flagship REI store. Its a very cool building, and has a little climbing wall inside.

Take a trip over to the Ballard if you have time. Fun neighborhood, tons of micro breweries, and the Ballard Locks are a lot of fun. I'd also recommend Sonic Boom records, my favorite music store. The ID (international district) has incredible asian food. If you go to Seattle and don't get some pho, you are doing it wrong. Meskel is a great little restaurant with some of the best Ethiopian food I have ever had.

I'd also recommend an evening out in Capital Hill. The Honey Hole has great sandwiches, Elysian Brewey has great beer and grub (even though its not owned by inbev) and there are a million bars and concert venues. Elliot Bay Books is a great store as well.
now i can't wait for my next trip back

Go to a seafood restaurant and get yourself a salmon diner, I don't care what place you go to downtown, they will all have a great salmon diner, that is the #1 suggestion. I also would try to take in a live event like a play or something like that in the downtown area, look up the theatre's, they are very good, close to broadway quality, without the parking issues and costs.

I agree. I don't even really like salmon and I ate it there and was licking the plate clean. The music museum thing near the space needle is cool too.

I second Pork Chop on this place. A great dive bar which, I think, is just a few blocks away from the Space Needle.
You have got to Eat Dicks

The old worlds fair site was good for pleasent stroll. Also visit Pioneer Square. There used to be tours of the underground city originating in a designated bar, you wear miners caps with lights. The "Russian District" up north has a few good reastaurants and Washington University district is pretty interesting.
Just went for a week vacation in September

Fell in love with the city. I'll back up what was said about getting a salmon dinner. Wow.

If they're in town go to a Seattle Sounders game. Phenomenal stadium and the team is really good...loud as shit...I don't think they pump in noise based on my experience.
go to the Boeing factory
CMicks3110 : 3/24/2015 3:31 pm : link
its about an hour north of the city. Largest building in North America, amazing to see how airplanes are built.
My favorite vacation.
Steve L : 3/24/2015 4:12 pm : link
Gorgeous city. I loved it

Go to Boeing plant and definitely do the Seattle underground tour. It's pretty awesome. Go to Pikes Place and buy some legal weed.

If you have time drive the couple hours and go to Vancouver. Another beautiful city.

The approach from the air is one of the most amazing you'll ever see.

Enjoy it. I can't wait to go back.
And the Mariners

If you can. Nice stadium and very cheap. I sat ten rows behind home plate for $60. And the food is great.
Yes...Boeing. Go see it...well worth it.

I happened to be at a wedding, then coincidentally visiting a cousin who was taking another visitor to the factory so I just tagged along that day. Awesome visit for basically anyone i would think, kids & adults alike.
definitely a Mariners game

was out there a few years ago, lower bowl seats were easy to come by and I got to see then rookie Pineda strike out 10+ on an otherwise dreary evening. Only time I saw the sun in 5 days was on the runway waiting to take off to leave... couldn't live in a place like that, but not a bad destination to visit.
Thanks everyone
Wuphat : 3/24/2015 9:38 pm : link
Seems I'll have my pick of things to do.

I'd love to get to Boeing, but I don't see that being able to happen this time around.

Will definitely check out some of the food mentioned.

If anyone else has anything to add, please do

Thanks again!
