They haven't said a word since the season ended. Some other teams have already hired a coach (like Miss State with Howland) or are closing in on one, like Danny Hurley at DePaul.
Yet St. John's sits here and still haven't announced whether or not Lavin is coming back, it's ridiculous. They'll wait a couple weeks and have top candidates already off the market by the time they decide.
Just fire him already. They have a very good chance of being the worst team in the Big East next year, Lavin has left this program a mess going forward. Start the rebuild now and don't let Lavin ruin the program any further.
The new President needs to shit or get off the pot. I am hopeful that things will be different under his leadership but they need to make the decision now.

I'd prefer a young guy to build this back up. Will take some patience but we are going to suck next year no matter who they bring in, they could bring Tom Izzo in and they'd suck next year

If they go the route of former St. John's legend they need their heads examined.

Danny is the one we want. Both are going to be very good coaches but most believe Danny will be the better of the 2.
Remember, while Bobby Hurley may be the leading candidate at Depaul, he hasn't bitten yet. One of his thousands of contacts could have easily let him know to hang tight on any decision. Also, other than Howland (who I was a big proponent of), all other realistic candidates are available.
Also of note, the DePaul job is more difficult than the SJU job. Not only dors DePaul have to compete for local kids against Big Ten schools, the finances of the city Chicago and the state of Illinois may cause a pause in the new arena.
By the way, Hurley has not signed yet. It is a bargaining tool for more money when another school calls.
They can easily fill the job. They don't need to make a splash, they need to make a solid hire that plenty of programs that are no better than them have made in the past.
Here is where I disagree. There are only about 10 "marquee" programs. Most are in the middle, and the right coach can make it a very good. Heck, UCLA had down years until Howland went there and rebuilt it.
Uconn isn't a marquee program any longer because of the conference. There won't be anymore title runs like they had in Ollie's first year.
SJU's problem is they have made bad coaching hires since Carnesecca's retirement. With the right hire, and there is no reason the school won't be in the NCAA's regularly, and make a nice run every couple of years.
St. John's is a good job. No reason why someone can't get kids to compete at msg in the big east.
Butler Xavier and providence aren't marquee jobs and they make deep runs.

this may be like the Rick Barnes situation, where Lavin is being asked to bring in an assistant or two stronger in Xs and Os.

Pure speculation. I think him being out makes more sense if they don't have a recruiting class anyway. Barnes, on the other hand, has a lot of talent that may transfer if he's fired.
