Kelly said that heading into last year’s draft, he personally considered Beckham not just the best receiver in the draft but the best player, period. So why didn’t the Eagles move up from the No. 22 overall pick so that they could draft Beckham before the Giants got him at No. 12? Kelly said he just doesn’t believe in giving up that much to move up. “I said it a year ago: I thought Odell Beckham was the best player in the draft. I was right. We didn’t have a chance to get Odell Beckham, but a lot of it depends on where you’re selecting,” Kelly said. Asked if he was disappointed not to get Beckham last year, Kelly noted that last year, Howie Roseman had final say in the draft room. “I didn’t have final say so, I mean, you always defer to who’s in charge,” Kelly said. |
...shit.

Kelly is different. He's full of shit, but in a way that he seems to think he's smarter than everyone else and has figured the game out. But I think he's on thin ice there because it seems even the Eagle fans aren't sure what he's doing. If the Eagles get off to a slow start, that whole thing could well collapse on itself.
To be honest, if you look at how the NFL execs have been acting, they seem to be goading Chip. The statements about Mariotta from Tennessee. Even the Redskins saying they might go for him. It's all pretty much clearly targeted at Chip. He's got a target on him because the GMs think they have a sucker on their hands.
As I said in other posts, there is no middle ground with Kelly. Either he's going to be a big success and become a pain in our collective asses for years. Or he'll be back coaching in college again and will never get back in the NFL.
At an earlier press conference after signing DeMarco Murray, he said the owner came to him and expressed the interest in Kelly taking full control. Kelly said he never asked.
Well yesterday, the owner said it was Kelly's idea.
...shit.

To be fair, no coach will speak before the draft as to who they rate the highest. However, he should say it shortly after the draft. So I agree he distorts the truth
I agree 100%. Kelly is trying too hard to say he isn't interested in trading up etc.
For some odd reason, Kelly's comments reminded me of the line in the movie Patton:
Which is all well and good, but at the same time he's saying that he wouldn't have given up that much to get Beckham himself. Not even sure why bother mentioning the power structure change at that point, since according to Kelly it was irrelevant at the time.

trying to sound like you aren't going to trade up for Mariota (which you are going to try to do at least)

Quote:
There's absolutely no reason for us to assume the Germans are mounting a major offensive. The weather is awful, Their supplies are low, and the German army hasn't mounted a winter offensive since the time of Frederick the Great — therefore I believe that's exactly what they're going to do.
Its just coach speak.
Bingo...
Don't you hate that? Klaatu does. Klaatu hates that a lot.
Rex Ryan's in the AFC.

Very true.
Kelly has turned into such a total asshole. Be nice to have him actually win something before he's been annointed as this genius. He's also a total liar and Ingive him credit. He's willing to lie and not care that people know it.
Maybe you should look up the definition of "great"?
Odell Beckham looked like a potential HOFer
I think that's what Matty's point is. Even if people were high on Beckham, no one thought he'd set the league on fire like he did.
Damn you, Ira!
I watched that kid and he made the best players in the country look foolish. He looked like a pro against college kids.
And this was a kid that was relatively lightly recruited by LSU, Miami, Miss State, Tulane, Ole Miss and Nebraska. He was a bit undersized out of HS and didn't exactly test out off the charts in the 40, shuttle or VJ.
His career trajectory is most likely off the charts however and something that hasn't been paralleled by many in the last decade.
Milton, happy Passover...
I'd be interested to see what Sammy can do with a real QB. From the few Bills games I've actually watched, he seems to almost always be open.
It seems to me that Chip is playing a game an he is winning the game he is playing. Heres why!!
Chip has stated quite a few things that are totaly contradicting other statemets that he has stated previously. By doing this he has a lot of other teams GMs thinking he is totaly out of his league or is out of his mind.
For instance he traded McCoy away for "Cap Reasons" then signs DeMarco Murray for More money and signes Ryan Matthews a day later. He also traded Nick Foles (Who really was good in that offense) for an injury prone Bradford who in all due respect more than likely wont be a mobile QB anymore. Everyone knows beyond a shadow of a doubt he has a real man love for Mariotta and if he can work a deal on draft will go for him. Now with that said it is well known that the Browns offered the Eagles a #1 pick for Bradford but Kelley turned it down.
Im thinking Kelley will make a draft day deal with the Browns for their 1st pick with Bradford and Ryan Matthews for that pick to get Mariotta. The Browns have no real NFL Sarting QB -- They wanted Braford eve before the Eagles acquired him. They also need a RB -- Im thinking Kelley would trade Bradford and Matthews with maybe a 6th or 7th round pick to sweeten the deal and keep their higher picks inste of sellingthe farm so to speak. Of Course this is my speculaton.
Now is he NUTS or is He a GENIOUS if this comes to pass? You tell me

I mean....maybe. If the Browns want Bradford that badly they have bigger problems than missing on all those other draft picks. But then why wouldn't the Browns just call the Rams directly and offer the 12th for Bradford before Philly could offer Foles?
