Kelly said that heading into last year’s draft, he personally considered Beckham not just the best receiver in the draft but the best player, period. So why didn’t the Eagles move up from the No. 22 overall pick so that they could draft Beckham before the Giants got him at No. 12? Kelly said he just doesn’t believe in giving up that much to move up. “I said it a year ago: I thought Odell Beckham was the best player in the draft. I was right. We didn’t have a chance to get Odell Beckham, but a lot of it depends on where you’re selecting,” Kelly said. Asked if he was disappointed not to get Beckham last year, Kelly noted that last year, Howie Roseman had final say in the draft room. “I didn’t have final say so, I mean, you always defer to who’s in charge,” Kelly said. |
Could be smoke, but would seem to refute the rumors PHI would move up to take Mariota..

Kelly said he wouldn't move into the top 10 to get MM.
Contradict much?
Perhaps someday there will be another individual who will at least match his football acumen, although do not hold your breath for such a thing to occur. Hopefully TC is watching closely, I have no doubt he will be able to learn a few things from Chip. A football mind like this only comes about once a generation, if you are lucky.
Time to roll these clowns this year and bring this guy down a peg.
"very high on him" is not exactly "best player in the draft."

...shit.

Kelly is different. He's full of shit, but in a way that he seems to think he's smarter than everyone else and has figured the game out. But I think he's on thin ice there because it seems even the Eagle fans aren't sure what he's doing. If the Eagles get off to a slow start, that whole thing could well collapse on itself.
To be honest, if you look at how the NFL execs have been acting, they seem to be goading Chip. The statements about Mariotta from Tennessee. Even the Redskins saying they might go for him. It's all pretty much clearly targeted at Chip. He's got a target on him because the GMs think they have a sucker on their hands.
As I said in other posts, there is no middle ground with Kelly. Either he's going to be a big success and become a pain in our collective asses for years. Or he'll be back coaching in college again and will never get back in the NFL.
At an earlier press conference after signing DeMarco Murray, he said the owner came to him and expressed the interest in Kelly taking full control. Kelly said he never asked.
Well yesterday, the owner said it was Kelly's idea.
...shit.

To be fair, no coach will speak before the draft as to who they rate the highest. However, he should say it shortly after the draft. So I agree he distorts the truth
I agree 100%. Kelly is trying too hard to say he isn't interested in trading up etc.
For some odd reason, Kelly's comments reminded me of the line in the movie Patton:
Which is all well and good, but at the same time he's saying that he wouldn't have given up that much to get Beckham himself. Not even sure why bother mentioning the power structure change at that point, since according to Kelly it was irrelevant at the time.

There's absolutely no reason for us to assume the Germans are mounting a major offensive. The weather is awful, Their supplies are low, and the German army hasn't mounted a winter offensive since the time of Frederick the Great — therefore I believe that's exactly what they're going to do.
Its just coach speak.
Bingo...
Don't you hate that? Klaatu does. Klaatu hates that a lot.
Rex Ryan's in the AFC.

Very true.
