OK ...I was going through some Giants memorabilia that I have saved and I then came across the towel the Giants honored Strahan and it said #SomeCompany on the bottom. I rolled my eyes.

Do you think the # is just a sign of the times? Will it phase itself out? Where will this stick around longer than I thought? Will I be asked by my kids in 20 years why there is a #WorldSeries in the dugout 20 years from now? I mean it is a pretty cool "thing" if you think about it. I remember back in 1999-2001 EVERYTHING had .com on the end of it. Just a thought....just a thought.

it is actually a very cool tool. I do not understand its use outside of the twitter/instagram world but for those mediums it's quite innovative. The idea that you can pool together mass amounts of information/photos related to the subject you are hashtaging is great. I get your point on the overuse of the hashtag but used in correct ways, very cool

I have to admit that I used # as my first character in passwords

I'm with you though, and say the same thing. interestingly enough, google hashtag vs pound key and the first entry is number sign. It's just free spirited and without a label.

To programmers its always been the hashtag (or arguably an octothorpe if you want to go real old school).
