There isn't much the Giants can do as they sit and wait to see what they will have with rehabbing wide receiver Victor Cruz this season. Maybe they can cross their fingers. Possibly their toes too. They can say a few Hail Mary's and rub some rabbits' feet. |
But drafting a WR is almost a given....more when than if
I agree with the majority here that if one of the big three WR's drops to nine, Reese is going to be itchy to draft him.
However, with our current crop of Beckham, Randle, Parker & Harris & Ogletree (supposing Cruz is not available for the first few weeks or he reinjures himself.), they may feel OL or DE is the pick.
My opinion is to grab a Cooper or White if he drops to us.
If Cruz had nothing else done beyond the stated repair(I have not seen anything in the media citing sources who state differently), he should or could be good as new when it comes time to play for real..
There's also nothing I've seen to lead me to believe he's not going through the usual PO sequellae...

I'm not reading the article. I've been following news of Cruz all along and the only question will be, can he get back to 100%? he thinks he can, he's a bit ahead of schedule. Screw shoddy articles.
They hoped that he could play, because if he couldn't start the first 6-8 games of the season, the season was over....they had no MLB and they didn't even roll the dice on this one.....they dropped a dollar on a million to one bet, and lost....
With Cruz, we have a different situation.....we have guys who can tread water while Cruz continues to rehab, if necessary, by being PUP'd at the start of the season....
This offense can function without Cruz at the start of the season, if we can fix the OL....
Don't rush him back....PUP him if necessary....
I think it would be a mistake to write off Reuben Randle. He showed some real improvement late last season, and I would expect him to peak this season while he's in a contract year. Having him and Beckham as a 1 and 2 isn't a bad thing.
Additionally, there's some untapped potential in regards to Corey Washington, who I would hope touches the field a little more this year. And I expect Dwayne Harris to be a decent contributor on offense.
Makes too much sense. With Cruz, media nonsense aside, being a ? and Randle on his last year with mediocrity beyond that.
Can't argue with that.
+10000
People keep thinking of Cruz 2012 with Nicks playing with him on the field. Even before his injury, JJ and Randle were getting more catches. Cruz even let it be known that the ball wasn't coming his way. Not sure if the Giants think paying a receiver who clearly isn't a #1 receiver and primarily slot receiver (take a look at games where he isn't in the slot and has to be the main focus of defenses) $7 million a season coming off a catastrophic leg injury.
I thought the proper protocol was to euthanize Cruz and turn him into glue like a race horse.
Hey but i clicked on the article right? And that's all that counts.
The media pretty much sucks giant donkey balls at this point.

You're welcome. Next time I won't give you any update when the coach says he's not sure his star receiver will be ready for the first game of the season. I'll just ignore it. Cool?

Pffft. Come on Jordan. Your article title screams sensationalism. Uncertainty? No. Really?
How about an in depth article detailing Cruz's path back to stardom? How about something positive focusing on the teams' belief that Cruz is well on his way and the rehab process is going well? (and based on all we've heard from your colleagues, that seems to be the case)
How about an article breaking down the schemes the offense can run with a healthy Cruz, a star in OBJ, Vereen, the second year in Mcs offense, and an emerging #3?
No? Why not?
Because your header draws more clicks from the masses?
What about those of us who know the game, analyze it, appreciate it and look for something more than the ESPN-level analysis of a complex sport?
Oh. Right. We represent the minority of your potential audience and a threat to your simple-minded musings.
Carry on. I guess.
Will he recover?
Will he be the same player?
When will he play?
"He's got one of those hats on at night and he has stuff boiling out of the room. He's in that mode," Coughlin said. "But don't forget the running back [Shane Vereen] ... Now you're in there really scratching around."
Of course, all this optimism is contingent on Cruz getting all the way back. Fingers and toes crossed all around at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center these days.
No issue with it whatsoever

Maybe because I was in Arizona at, you know, a coaches breakfast, where the coach talked about the uncertainty of his star receiver.
I replied with - Don't believe everything you've heard. Have you checked Jordans latest opus on the state of the New York Football Giants!?! His Ralphie-esque assessment is that the future is somewhat bleak. After all he had breakfast too.
I could have written an entire article just on that positivity. Not to mention... I don't know... Maybe my experience as a D1 player who worked pro day before injury and coached afterwards to add in some solid research and writing after I interviewed coaches, s&c staff and training staff. (BTW, you're totally invited to our next breakfast... Although it's really just a lineman lunch before walk throughs)
But nah. We want hear from the guy who had breakfast. With a bunch of coaches in the room.
Continental or full on egg station?
C'mon, the first quote in the article is a positive one from Coughlin. If you think this article is sensationalism, you probably don't know what the word means.
