NFT: New York Rangers @ Ottawa Senators, 7:30 pm

arcarsenal : 3/26/2015 9:45 am
Really annoying loss to LA the other night. Need to bounce back. No team in the NHL is hotter than the Senators right now. The Hamburglar is playing out of his mind but all good things must come to an end and it's time for someone to piss on their parade.

A win + BOS loss to ANA clinches us a playoff spot which doesn't really matter since we have like a 99.6% chance of getting in no matter what.

Cam in net.. and #30 will be in the building, in uniform and the backup.

One small correction
Andy in Halifax : 3/26/2015 9:56 am : link
Last few games, the Hamburglar has been less than amazing. Still pretty good, but they've been winning because of the skaters, not Hammond.

Anyway, bring it on bitches! Especially muffin shot Davisian. Wash out your vagina cause it about to get sandy after the Sens are done tonight.
I was going to say
NYerInMA : 3/26/2015 10:02 am : link
That it looked like Ottawa has been giving up a good number of goals lately and that Hammond is far from lights out. That being said, they are still winning and this is going to be a tough game. Hopefully the boys will show more fight than they did against LA on Tuesday. LGR!
Our club should be embarrassed by the LA game effort...

arcarsenal : 3/26/2015 10:06 am : link
Any way you slice it, the guy is 14-0-1 with a 1.67 GAA and a .946 sv%

He let in 4 against BOS and that was the only time he's let in more than 3 all year. The guy has been ridiculous.
They should show up
redbeard : 3/26/2015 10:09 am : link
With bad intentions after that showing against LA. We also need to get Nash going...if he is still cold going into the playoffs, the questions will start up again and become a distraction

This team
gmen9892 : 3/26/2015 10:19 am : link
has been great at not slipping into losing streaks. I think they will be ready to go considering how they played Tuesday coupled with the fact that another desperate team is coming to play tonight. They know they need to match the other teams battle level.

Yeah, we haven't lost 2 straight in regulation since the end of January. It's almost April.
More concerned about several of these 8th place teams
Giants2012 : 3/26/2015 10:40 am : link
than 3-7

These teams are in playoff mode and are pain in @ss in Round 1. They usually fizzle in Round 2 but a handful in Round 1.

Ranking the East
Andy in Halifax : 3/26/2015 11:15 am : link
NYR
Tampa

Mtl (unless they play Ottawa)

NYI
Pitt
Det
Ott
Wash

Bos
Florida

...
a bunch of shit.

As a fan of Ottawa, I want to put them ahead of Detroit but they gotta prove its more than a great streak. Detroit looks like dead man walking to me. Tampa and the Rangers look lire the best teams imo.

Agree? Disagree?
.
arcarsenal : 3/26/2015 11:27 am : link
Yeah, I would say Tampa worries me the most and poses the biggest threat to us getting back to the SCF.

The Pens and Caps don't worry me at all.. the Isles have been woefully unimpressive for weeks now. Detroit has been really disappointing since the deadline. It looked like they were going to be as tough an out as anyone.. and they still might be.. but they haven't looked too great.

I'd say Tampa, Montreal (because of Price) and Ottawa are the three teams I'd be worried most about if the playoffs started today.
I'd actually put TB ahead of the Rangers
NYerInMA : 3/26/2015 11:28 am : link
They are a very strong team and they kicked the Rangers' butts all three times they played this season. I'd say:

TB
NYR
MON
NYI
PIT
DET
OTT
WAS
BOS
FLA
As an outsider, I agree
Andy in Halifax : 3/26/2015 11:35 am : link
your biggest threat is:
1. Tampa - they're just a good team
2. Montreal - Price and Pacioretti is a dangerous combo.
3. The 8th seed that gets insanely hot goaltending.

Tampa just flat out plays well every time I see them.
.
arcarsenal : 3/26/2015 11:37 am : link
The weird thing is that I kind of feel like Tampa is flying under the radar somehow. Maybe it's just my perception but I don't get the impression that many people see them as a viable threat to win the East and I can't really understand why. I think they're an excellent team.
TB got screwed last year
NYerInMA : 3/26/2015 11:37 am : link
when Bishop got hurt right before the playoffs. Had he not gotten hurt, I think TB would've gone a lot further last year.
Be afraid of the hot goalie
Deej : 3/26/2015 11:40 am : link
Rangers are the best team in the east. If they play their best, they win unless (1) a hot goalie kills them, or (2) they get bad puck luck.

Im still worried about the Isles. Similar issue re the Kings -- they're bigger than us yet they skate as well, and hit a lot. They have worse D and goaltending than LA though; but they're more consistent.
MSL skating today

Agreed totally.
How can one overlook Tampa?
Stufftherun : 3/26/2015 12:22 pm : link
They've got a great balance of spoed and size with the elephant in net and what I would consider the best shot in tlne league in Stamkos. Sure, Ovechkin goes on wild streaks and can pound the puck but Stamkos picks his corner and hits it nearly every time, he's deadly. Oh yeah, and Tampa has plain and simple pwned us.
Everyone is a threat
Deej : 3/26/2015 12:23 pm : link
In reverse order starting with the Rangers last season, the seed of the last five East Cup finalists have been: 5 (NY), 4 (BOS), 6 (NJ), 3 (BOS), and 7 (PHI).
I predicted an NYR vs. TB ECF
BrettNYG10 : 3/26/2015 1:33 pm : link

Personally I don't see Tampa as a threat, I just don't believe in them for some reason. Also Nash has been on fire and has cooled down. His scoring has helped you guys get to the level you are at. If he goes cold where does the scoring come from?
As for the Isles, team is all over the place right now. Not sure how they are going to show up. One thing I recognize is the Rags beat the teams in which the Isles usually lose or go to overtime with. I don't know what to expect next month.
Pitt can put it all together and be dangerous. Around the trade deadline I thought Detroit was going to be the team to beat but they ran out of gas. They remind me of the Kings from last year.

There is an Isles thread, do you guys just hate FEKker that much?

I also don't understand what you're trying to say about Detroit. Are they out of gas or are they winning the cup?

I'm not sure how you don't see TB as a threat, either. To me, they have fewer holes than anyone aside from maybe NYR.

We need not consider this hypothetically. Nashty has 2 goals in 14 games, and St. Louis has missed 4 of those. In those 14 games, the Rangers have averaged 2.65 goals per game. Below their 2.99 average, but not horrific. That's what LA scores, good for 18th in the league. Especially ok considering the fact that they've only lost 4 of those games while missing Lundqvist -- and I think they had to play a tighter defensive game to support Talbot.

But obviously Nash being hot for us in the playoffs would be a big deal. He can single handedly win game.

2) Sens couldn't hold on to a puck if it had stickum or hit keep puck in BL?
3) Rangers came to play tonight?
4) Rangers sucsed Tuesday night?
5) Kings have Rangers number/Rangers go belly up vs. Kings?
6 All of the above or something else?

Very curious for your thoughts......

Route 9 in LEH : 3/26/2015 10:10 pm : link
Rangers controlled the tempo of the game here vs Ottawa, they did not vs LA. Great passing and rapport with NYR tonight.
The biggest problem against LA was the sloppy play in our zone.
arcarsenal : 3/26/2015 10:13 pm : link
We turned the puck over way too many times. Just a lot of bad passes.. putting pucks in a lot of dangerous places, letting them sustain rushes way longer than we could handle.

You can't let LA control play like we did.. it's a recipe for disaster.

Tonight was much more like we've been playing mostly over the last while.. really disciplined in our end, crisp passes out of the zone and strong on our rushes.

by BBI Rangers fans on who they don't want to see in round 1. This team is playing on another level of not only most teams in the East but the entire NHL.

Dont want to see the Sens because of a hot goalie; Bruins are physical and tough, blah blah blah.

If I were an opposing fan on the prospect of facing the Rangers in round 1 I'd be like "holy crap that team is tearing it up with their backup goalie, no MSL and their leading goal scorer in a dry spell. Yet they dont miss a beat"

9 out of 10 years and the 1 season they didn't make, they lost out in a shootout in game 82. Say what you will about Sather, the record speaks for itself

It's funny, since in many ways the cap was implemented because the Rangers were spending so much (yet not winning).

Rangers are on pace for their most points ever, 113.5. The comparison is apples to oranges vs 93-94 though (112 points), since there were ties and no SO/OTL points, and in 93-94 the schedule was 84 games. By the by, 113 would be below average for shootout era Presidents Trophy Winners.
Amazing how good those Lidstrom-era Wings were
Deej : 3/27/2015 10:22 am : link
in the regular season. Just looking back now. 6 Presidents trophies. In the first 12 OTL seasons, they AVERAGED 110.5 standings points per year, and not all of those were shootout seasons. In 2005 they went 58-16-8 for 124 points with a +95 goal differential. And they didnt even have good goaltending.

has been invisible from a scoring standpoint. I appreciate that he is a pro's pro and plays a solid all around game, but they can't have him not score in the playoffs for another year. He has to light the lamp for them to win the Cup.

On vacation in Aruba - favorite Caribbean island by the way. Checking in this morning to see what some of you mouth breakers are saying (e.g., Brett and Arc).

Anyone who is judging Pittsburgh right now without Malkin, Hornqvist and Ehroff is clueless.

Yes, we're a really good team and we'll take our chances against anyone... but you're nuts if you want Pittsburgh in round 1. Hopefully they win some games down the stretch, or we grab the #1 seed and make it irrelevant anyway.

Most important thing is keeping everyone healthy through these last 9 games though. And I think I'd rather see the King on Saturday in Boston. Give him two days rest for the Tuesday night game in Minnesota I think it is. That's more important than the fans seeing him on home ice vs the Caps.

Nah, one of their franchise players got hurt and has been out for weeks, and another top line player went down too. As a result, they aren't scoring goals, and they've had some injuries to their back line too.

They'll all be back and rested for the playoffs - so I just assume they face the Islanders in round 1, thanks.

We won the division. Hoping for Ottawa in round 1, but we can take out the Caps too. (or Detroit the way they are playing, but with 5 points to spare on Boston/Ottawa they probably aren't dropping below 3rd)
anyway...

Didn't get to see the game

But I just watched the highlights and read the recaps. Total domination. Great that they bounced back so strongly from the no-show against LA. I'd love for the King to make his return tomorrow and the Rangers to stick another nail in Boston's playoff coffin.

The Pens just don't have the depth. They're flawed and not constructed to make deep playoff runs. This has been an ongoing theme with them. Not enough depth on the wings and not strong enough at the blue line, either.. and they have a goalie who is a mental midget and can crumble at any given time.

Even with all their players healthy, I just don't think they're all that threatening. We match up well against them and I don't think they can beat us.

I agree not judging them now, but the idea of them going 10-2 was ridiculous even at full health.

They could definitely be a team that gets hot 'out of nowhere' (gets healthy) and wins a round or two (even more likely if they wind up as a wild card and play the Atlantic).

Aruba sucks.
Agree they are not winning a Cup
MetsAreBack : 3/27/2015 12:55 pm : link
but its not a team you want in the first round, assuming Malkin, Crosby, Hornqvist and Perron are all healthy. As you say, they can "steal a round" so let them steal it against the Islanders.

Anyway, I'm fine taking shit from Brett and Arc - you boys put your balls on the line here too. But this Schabadoo can suck a tit... talk about irrelevant around here.

I agree. The Pens absolutely do not have the depth to make a deep playoff push and that was apparent during last year's series with the Rangers. Plus, eventually the real MAF shows up and torpedoes Pittsburgh's chances.
.....
BrettNYG10 : 3/27/2015 1:11 pm : link
The Pens are basically wasting Sidney/Malkin. Winning only one Cup with two of the top five players in the game would be bad, especially when you look at Chicago with two lesser, albeit still great stars. I thought they'd go on a string of dominance after winning the first one.

I'm just mad you're in Aruba with your fruity drinks while I'm looking out the window at yet another overcast, 40 something degree day in NY.

60-70 degree weather and playoff hockey cannot fuckin' get here fast enough.

I wouldn't go that far, but it was warm in Richmond yesterday, mid-70s or so. So, my wife opened all the doors and windows, and it got fucking hot in the house, like 76 degrees, and she bitched about me wanting to put the AC on to bring it down to a comfortable level.
70's too hot for me.

For the past year, we don't cool the house lower than 75 nor heat it warmer than 67. I'm happy in the winter, she's happy in the summer. The only way I can sleep at 75 degrees is to park a floor fan next to the bed pointed right at me.

arcarsenal : 3/27/2015 2:55 pm : link
I'm fine even with the heat on like 65.. I actually sleep better when it's a little chilly. Throw some blankets on and you're set.

Forget it in the summer, though.. if the A/C is set any higher than 72, I'm not about it.

What I'm trying to say is that there's only about a 7 degree window where I'm good.
