Post your fanspeak mock

Emil : 3/26/2015 5:55 pm
I know many have already done this on individual threads, but I thought having a running thread for everyone to post their fanspeak mocks would be a good idea as we are just a little over a month out. So maybe I'll get my first sticky.

I used the "mocking the draft" rankings, which seemed to be fairly accurate, or at least more than some others.

R1P9 OT BRANDON SCHERFF IOWA - Both White and Cooper were off the board, and Vic Beasley went one pick before. So twist my arm, I'll take the mauling OT/OG from Iowa. His pro-day performance demonstrated his athleticism, which he could not show at the combine due to his hamstring injury. It looks like Scherff has the feet to play LT in the league and could take over for Beatty in a year or two.

R2P8 DE OWAMAGBE ODIGHIZUWA UCLA - OK, so I honestly don't think Odi lasts until #40. Preston Smith was the DE I was eyeing, but he went at #39. Ultimately, I think Odi goes in the latter half of round 1, but stranger things have happened. A rotation of JPP, Moore, Ayers, Selvie, Wynn, and Odi would be amazing. This of course assumes the Giants keep 6 DEs.

R3P10 CB ALEX CARTER STANFORD - Good value in the 3rd. A zone cover corner with good size (6'1" 196). Some scouts think he can be a safety. Either way, with the departure of Thurmond the Giants need a quality 3rd/4th CB as McBride is a journeyman and you can't rely on Jayron Hosley.

R4P9 G ARIE KOUANDJIO ALABAMA - Some might think that if you draft Scherff then you're all set on the OL. While the starting 5 might be set, the depth is still suspect and Kouandjio provides an instant upgrade at depth. He probably can play some RT if required as well.

R5P8 S ANTHONY HARRIS VIRGINIA - To me, this guy is flying under the radar. In a thin safety class, Harris brings a great deal of experience and production. In 2013 he led the nation in interceptions (8) with eight, and racked up 80 tackles. Surprising that he didn't come out as a junior. Though his interception totals were down as a senior (10) he actually broke up more passes, is fluid in coverage and can play either safety position.

R6P10 TE TYLER KROFT RUTGERS - And half of BBI goes wild with excitement. Kroft intriges me. He has good height and is athletic for a 6'6" frame. He actually reminds me a great deal of Larry Donnell in terms of what he can do as a receiver. Was not expecting him to be there in the 6th and just seemed like great value for a position of need. Donnell is inked as the starter and Fells is the blocking TE, but there is literally nothing to write home about after those two.

R7P9 DE TRAVIS RACITI SAN JOSE STATE - So round 7, you do your best to find players that can make the squad by filling a role. Raciti is a DE in a 3-4, but projects to DT in a 4-3. At 6'4" 290+ he has the size to be a 3tech under Spags. A DT rotation of Hankins, Ellis, Bromley, Jenkins and either Kuhn, Patterson, or a player like Raciti would be a good group of 5.

R7P28 FB TYLER VARGA YALE - I wouldn't be surprised if Varga goes early in round 7 or hits the street and is picked up by someone as an UDFA. I figure the Giants final pick is a bonus so might as well gamble. Here is what I see in Varga. He is more than a FB, far more. Think FB/RB/H-back/Special teams. He played FB at Yale (and blocked well at the senior bowl) but Yale Bulldogs ran a FB centric running attack. He also has great hands and lined up at H-back quite often. I could see MacAdoo making great use of a player with this skillset. As Coughlin mentioned, he's a mad scientist. Varga was also a special teams standout and we all know the Giants can use more of those guys. I think he could make the team as the 4th RB and even serve as a backup FB in an emergency.

I tried to ignore the rankings and pick a guy the Giants might take, even if the board made him look like a reach.

Fanspeak seems to have increased the randomness of other teams' picks, which I think improves the model and makes for a more realistic simulation. It's still just a time-waster, but a fun one.

9: R1P9
DE VIC BEASLEY
CLEMSON - Tough call with Amari Cooper and Devante Parker available but Spags turns this guy into a pass rushing demon.

40: R2P8
OT ANDRUS PEAT
STANFORD - Unrealistic for him to fall this far but highest upside left tackle prospect who can eventually unseat Beatty.

74: R3P10
DT GRADY JARRETT - Underrated High motor 3 tech who plays a lot like Geno Atkins. Great rotational complement to Hankins
CLEMSON

108: R4P9
WR TYLER LOCKETT
KANSAS STATE - Top polished route runner, and return man. Huge production in college.

144: R5P8
S DAMARIOUS RANDALL
ARIZONA STATE - Total Giant pick. Athletic safety with good size and upside.

186: R6P10
G KALEB JOHNSON
RUTGERS - High upside local guard prospect with great size, strong measurables, and underrated college production.

226: R7P9
TE NICK O’LEARY
FLORIDA STATE - Big time college player who probably won't slip nearly this far off of questions about size/speed to compete at next level.

245: R7P28
ILB A.J. TARPLEY
STANFORD - Smart highly productive inside backer who led one of top defenses the last 2 years.

WR AMARI COOPER, ALABAMA
- Imagine OBJ, Cooper, and Cruz together. That's a big ole FU to the defensive coordinators of the league.
40: R2P8
OT ANDRUS PEAT, STANFORD
- Value meets need meets running to the podium.
74: R3P10
TE MAXX WILLIAMS, MINNESOTA
- Add Maxx here to OBJ, Cooper, and Cruz? Eli would have his choice of options with which to destroy the secondaries of our enemies.
108: R4P9
RB TEVIN COLEMAN, INDIANA
- I know, more offense. Insane value though.
144: R5P8
S ADRIAN AMOS, PENN STATE
- A Safety with wheels, we need it.

DT TYELER DAVISON, FRESNO STATE
- Part 1 of 2 in adding beef to the DL.

- Part 2 of 2, and has the size at 6'6'' to get even stronger.

CB JUSTIN COX, MISSISSIPPI STATE
- 6 foot with sub 4.4 speed, that works for me this late.

I like this mock because we've addressed the OL and DL (I feel that both Smith and Anderson can swing between DE and DT situationally) as well as the S position.
The thing keeps resetting and starting over at round 6

I had

1-Cooper-WR
2-Preston Smith-DE
3-Ali Marpet-G
4-Durell Eskridge-S
5-Ben Koyack-TE

then it glitched... I was hoping to pick up a WR, OT and CB or S
Used Mocking as other for consistency sake.

All I could say is backflips...

1 (9) Danny Shelton, DT, Washington
2 (40) DaVonte Parker, WR, Louisville
3 (74) Ali Marpet, G, Hobart
4 (107) Chris Hackett, S,TCU
5 (142) Ty Smith, CB, Towson
6 (186) Ray Drew, DE, Georgia
7 (226) Tyler Kroft, TE, Rutgers
7 (245) Darrian Miller, OT/G Kentucky

Other than Parker falling to 40 I think the rest of the picks are realistic. They're also all team first, passionate team leader types. A lot of these guys perceived negatives are overblown IMO. I don't care of Smith didn't run great at the combine or that Hackets timed speed leave analysts wondering if he's better at free or strong, both of the kids can play. Same for Marpet.

That site was pretty cool and all I could say is a draft like this would probably leave most of BBI in some state of euphoria. Shelton AND Parker? Ha!

Would be pretty happy with this one as well. Getting Preston Smith in the 3rd and Marpet in the 4th would be huge.
I think this one hinges on Ali Marpet and can he play LG
