...actually, if the Giants thought highly of Mariotta and felt like he had the ability to be a top tier franchise QB, then I would take him. This is not a knock on Eli. This does not mean I want the kid to play QB for us next season. However, since franchise QBs like Eli do not grow on trees AND you never know when you will be in position to select one....you have to take him. It then gives us options with Eli and his contract in the next few seasons.
Remember this. After drafting Simms, I dont think we were in position to select another top ranked QB until Eli. that was 20 years. I really do not want to be one of those teams that is trying a new QB every year once Eli decides to retire.
Williams makes the most sense if you have to make the pick. Trading down would be more appealing. Even one or two spots would be great. Rarely is there a player equal to the value you want at pick number one.
The guy is more valuable in you hands as a QB or trade bait than he id elsewhere.
Dan opened the thread by saying "no trading". So, my response was purely whether the Giants would draft Winston to be a QB on our team. The answer is....never.

Why never?
Why? well, for starters it has been broadly discussed that Winston is immature. This is not something the Giants are going to gamble on when you consider the fact that the QB should be the most mature player on the field.
Second, he has had an off of the field incident that is a significant red flag. Especially for a team like the Giants. If you watch that series on the NFL network called "Finding Giants", you will hear Reese constantly refer to a player as being "clean". Meaning, no baggage. Nothing to worry about regarding any potential to get into trouble off of the field. So, HE has made that a huge priority. Factor that into potentially drafting a player that would ultimately be your franchise QB and get paid over $20 million per season... yeah they would never draft him.

Ok so a 20 year old is immature off the field; they eventually grow up. Especially when the people around them are high character and he's not pampered.
Off field incidents - ok the biggie was the alleged rape which the DA refused to bring to a grand jury and then an independent arbiter (a retired FL supreme court judge) saw no grounds for his dismissal from school. I thought he was toast because of all the incidents but a judge thought otherwise.
You are not wrong to be worried about the immaturity and incidents, but I think that is where Jerry's interview would need to be thorough.
QB is the single most important position on the field and Winston repeatedly came up big on the big stage, playing in a pro-style offense. Is he perfect - nope throws off his back foot too often, throws into traffic, gets picked off too much.
Ditto
Exactly.

It's a QB league and if the kid can learn from Eli, that could be worth 8-10 at QB in a QB league.

Oops. Take Williams. pass rusher is a major need for our defense.
