Do you have a favorite football play?

Eric from BBI : Admin : 3/27/2015 8:31 am
What I mean by this is there some play type in football that gets you on your feet more than others?

A blocked punt for a TD? A running back running over a defender? A long TD pass? A sack? A goal line stand?

Any play where a defense just obliterates an offense
robbieballs2003 : 3/27/2015 8:33 am : link
like a sack fumble, a QB getting a ball off right before he gets killed but it leads to an interception, a huge hit, etc.
the long bomb flea flicker. don't know why
oghwga : 3/27/2015 8:35 am : link
but maybe because as soon as the RB flips it to the QB you immediately scan downfield to see if anyone was fooled.

Parcells called one a season back in the day.
When a DE/DT gets a pick six......
jsuds : 3/27/2015 8:36 am : link
JPP has had one...JJ Watts does it....remember George Martin doing it against Denver....and I think Strahan may be on the list too.

When they can snatch the ball out of the air so close to its release point to me it is the most difficult play in football.

And seeing the big guys mow over tacklers on their way to the end zone is awesome too.
The 73 yard TD run by Jennings against the Steelers
Headhunter : 3/27/2015 8:37 am : link
where 11 people on offense executed their assignments perfectly. Everyone doing their job
Almost have to include LT's 97 yard pick six against Detroit too.....
jsuds : 3/27/2015 8:37 am : link
He wasn't a D-lineman but on that play so close to the goal line I give him the benefit of the doubt.
i like the halfback option pass, I also do not like plays like this
gtt350 : 3/27/2015 8:40 am : link
called gadget plays, they are plays with just a higher level of execution. like diving
sack in the end zone
idiotsavant : 3/27/2015 8:41 am : link
goal line stand

any INT

fumble recovery in the green zone, in either direction.

any PD at any time in the game
A long screen play
B in ALB : 3/27/2015 8:42 am : link
for a td. Watching linemen vacate and get out in space to smash is great stuff.
Always considered myself a defense guy
BigBlue in Keys : 3/27/2015 8:44 am : link
But if watching live, and talking one play I would say the deep pass.

You see the receiver breaking free, the ball goes up, the crowd rises in anxious anticipation, the catch is made and the crowd goes wild!

The blind side strip sack
jcn56 : 3/27/2015 8:45 am : link
that LT perfected, it was and remains a thing of beauty.
Wide right had the most hanging on one play!
wgenesis123 : 3/27/2015 8:48 am : link
Tyree's catch was the most amazing and exciting play I can think of. LT recovering the fumble to squeeze the life out of the 3-PEAT 49ers was like a gift from the football Gods.
Kick-off returns as the sudden equalizer!

and no mention of the Annexation of Puerto Rico? Son, I am disappoint.

For me, the long yardage play. Any time Eli sets back and you know he's go deep, it's exciting. Probably the most exciting is a Kickoff or Punt Return that the runner eludes several would be tacklers to finally take it back to the house. Long play, lot of action. Watch David Wilson's 97 yarder as another example where you can see he hits the turbo button right before getting to the first row of blockers.

I'll go with
El Pollo Diablo : 3/27/2015 8:59 am : link
the shotgun draw in the green zone. Gilbride perfected it.
There's nothing to me like a good sack.

TE seam/post, off play action.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/27/2015 9:04 am : link
Some of my fondest football memories, starting in 1984 with Mowatt, then of course Bavaro... It was a perfect play for Simms because it was pretty straightforward, one-read stuff where he could draw the safety up and then just let it fly.
Flea Flicker

That Collins bomb in the 2002 Indy game to Toomer is still one of my favorite plays of all time.

back side seem off of lead option, works every time.

Yes!!! Love it. My dad still gripes that they should bring that play back.

without a dooubt
Tom/Greg: I think defenses evolved to deny the seam.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/27/2015 9:31 am : link
For example, the Tampa-2 dropped the MIKE into the deep middle. Unless he bit hard on play-action, the QB had to either look to a second option or put extra air under the ball to clear the LB, which meant more time for assassins like John Lynch to line up the crosshairs. And then there's cover-3, which I think of as a direct answer to the seam threat, whatever its other weaknesses may be.

A blind-side sack on a QB, where the QB just gets obliterated... and then pops right back up.
The Joe Theisman?

Don't have a favorite
Moondawg : 3/27/2015 9:43 am : link
but when you see a running back pause with the ball and throw it back the QB, you stand up and are like "YES, IT'S ON!"

Brandon Jacobs obliterating Laron Landry. Ahmad Bradshaw steamrolling Brodney Poole. Andre Williams destroying Rodney McLeod. I live for those plays.
My favorite is a series of plays not one
Torrag : 3/27/2015 10:22 am : link
The Goal Line Stand. Offense has 4 plays to get one yard. The defense collectively responds with 'not on my watch'.
Fake kick
KeoweeFan : 3/27/2015 10:28 am : link
(either punt or FG) especially when the giants are down and the defense thinks they're getting the ball back. Crusher!
2 plays I'd say
Hades07 : 3/27/2015 10:32 am : link
A stop on 4th and goal with less than a yards.

Sack in the endzone for a safety.
A safety

Blowing somebody up.(here's to you Jack Tatum) Sadly a thing of the past, mostly.
A solid QB sack

or hit on a RB, and either one looks like an Undertaker choke slam.
Ka-Boom!
Probably when a receiver gets two feet down before going out of bounds
Emil : 3/27/2015 11:10 am : link
Even sweeter if it's in the endzone.

So, I guess I like a lot of Amani Toomer TDs.

A great run by a running back....
Doomster : 3/27/2015 11:19 am : link
There have been so many great ones over the years, where it looked like the runner was caught, escaped , ran over someone, and then outsprinted the defense for a td.....

Off the top of my head, the last great run I remember, was the Lynch run, in the fourth quarter, against NO in the playoffs....34-30 with under 4 minutes left in the game, Lynch just runs through that NO defense for 67 yards and a td....

Some of the greatest I ever saw were from Jim Brown and Earl Campbell....You just shake your head in awe after some of those runs...

4th down stuff...

is one of my favs. always thought it can be a game changer.
I am a big fan
SimpleMan : 3/27/2015 11:51 am : link
of a well-executed screen pass to the RB. Nice seeing all the lineman get out front and make blocks and the RB get through into the open field. Too bad the Giants haven't been good at this lately.
A ball carrier dragging multiple defenders with him
RB^2 : 3/27/2015 12:02 pm : link
Think Bavaro or some of Marshawn Lynch's best runs.

I also like plays where a RB is running down the sideline and the WRs are right there with him delivering blocks on pursuing defenders. Plax was really good at that.
always liked the flea flicker

too bad Coughlin NEVER calls it while Jim Fassell and Reeves went to it on a semi-regular basis
Successful Goal Line Stand
BeerFridge : 3/27/2015 12:34 pm : link
where my team stuffs the run. Love that because I remember loving being in the trenches during those plays and that's when slow fat defensive tackles can be the star.
Pick 6.

a wheel route with a RB making the catch...

...I'm picturing Brandon Jacobs taking one in for a TD on that play late in the '11 season
