If we drafted an Offensive lineman at 9. Especially a Guard. If there were players similar to last year with Matthews & Lewan I could see it possibly happening.
Just don't see how we passed on Zach Martin last year to draft a guy most people say is similar to Martin just not as good of a prospect.
If Scherff, in particular, is actually viewed by the Giants in the following manner: as an NFL-level LT but at least a G if that fails, and they think that risk is worth the #9, why not?
2Yrs ago we talked about that plan as a fall-back for Pugh, and still are, and still that possibility with Richburg, esp. with the Schwartz situation(injury and age).
I think the play of Zack Martin and Joel Bitonio, not to mention his pro day earlier this week will help his cause to be drafted in the top half of the first round if not the top 10. However, the way the first 8 picks shake out I think we'll get much better value picking someone else and potentially picking up a lineman on Day 2.
the more comfortable i'm becoming with his potential. IMO, that Giants selecting him at 9 means they are confident in him playing Tackle, which has been a hot topic the past couple weeks. If that's the case then I'm all for it.
Still wouldn't take him over Cooper/White. However, I now no longer think those two will be available with Gregory expected to drop, which kinda sucks.
Either way, I fully expect a day 1 starter with out selection.
Re: pot issue, teams passed on Randy Moss and Warren Sapp
...who do you think the Giants should have taken? Shelton maybe? I think Sherff is worth the #9 pick. But really we are so weak at so many positions that I would be happy with anyone. I am a little concerned with Parker's broken foot though.
I think to many people are getting hung up on "A Guard" label
If the Giants draft Scherff - they will be getting a big, strong and fast player (with nasty) who can probably play every position on the OL except center.
Gregory reportedly has three positive pot tests now
hoe did that work out for them. I would take Gregory in a heartbeat
The NFL doesn't agree with you. Even more so now than when those guys played. Teams aren't going to want to invest a top pick in a guy like this. Maybe there is a desperate team out there but if you learned anything after Hardy/AP/Rice you'd know that him potentially being great is almost irrelevant.
If the draft falls that way it's not an insane pick. IMO Beasley is the only one of the tweener DE/LB types I think would do well for the Giants. Kid is a stud. Ray And Gregory nee to go to 3/4 teams. And also if you are so fucking stupid as to not have any self control and stop smoking weed for a few months I don't know if you deserve to be picked a that high.
Tha mere fact that it could cost you millions should be enough of a reason to make u pause. I'm not even anti legalizing pot. It's just a lack of common sense.
I noticed that in a couple of these OL guys highlights. They can't get away with half the crap that they are pulling off in these videos at the NFL level. I'm also beginning to wonder if that is the reason why a lot of these top prospects OTs don't pan out.
Cooper or White drops, I'm now convinced that Peat will be the pick. As others have pointed out, he's the only one of the OL prospects who provides clear LT potential at a high level. I also think Brown could be a possibility but getting an Olineman who can play LT at a high level is hard to pass up. Ross going to his pro day sealed the deal for me.
could have been called holding in that entire clip. The rest he keeps his hands inside under the breastplate or at the arm pits and disengages properly. I honestly wonder if some of you guys know what holding is.
He will probably be an all pro guard someday, but his position in college was and still is LT. He may need to play inside for a year to acclimate to the speed of the NFL and then move to Tackle. If he was a guard, he wouldn't be in the conversation at 9.
RE: Why do so many here keep referring to Scherff as a Guard?

He is in the conversation at 9 because he is seen as the best OL prospect in this draft. And while he could play tackle much like Zack Martin could possibly play tackle.. with his power and run blocking ability and his violent hands he could step in as a guard right away..
Mock drafts are meaningless, don't get too upset, save it for draft

Going to his pro day hardly seels the deal..I'm sure they are doing their due diligence in looking at one of the top OL prospects. It doesn't mean they are necessarily buying. If anything it indicates they might have some questions about him.
I've been wrong before but I think Peat slides a bit. I don't think he goes top 10.
RE: When I watch him, I don't understand how people think
A fist full of jersey and pulls it in pretty sure it's holding. There were about three plays that he did this in those clips. No big deal, but it was obvious holding.
My problem with them picking Schreff there is that everyone is projecting him at guard. From what I've read and seen there will be plenty of quality guards available day 2. If the draft lines up where the top WR & DE/LBs are gone I can see them trying to trade out of this pick.
I think if Fowler or Cooper aren't there which they probably won't
That could very well shake out that way. I wonder if they picked Gregory before the pot thing.

Anyway, I love the guy. He might have the lowest risk of a bust on the board.
