NFT: Anthem insurance hacked from a couple months ago

MookGiants : 3/27/2015 1:12 pm
I know it's old news, but I just got a notice about it in the mail. I still dont know whether or not I'm affected. I have to call the company I have my insurance through in a little bit to make sure. The website makes it sound like I'm not impacted by this but then why did they send the letter?

I was reading other places though that anthem did not have any of the information encrypted. How is that even possible?

Anyone else get the letter in the mail recently?

the problem with this hack is the people that are under the age of 18. Essentially they have all their info ready to load up on cc and whatever else they want once they turn 18
My company has insurance through Anthem,

and some of us were hacked. Some of my co-workers were notified that their information was hacked, and they've been enrolled in a credit monitoring service. Fortunately I didn't get that letter, but I wound up getting another letter that said my name and email address was accessed, but not any more personal information than that. I'm supposed to be getting a follow-up letter soon with more details, but it sounds like they'll give me the credit monitoring as well, even though they claim no confidential information was accessed. If that's true, it's really not so bad for me, but it's still a serious f-up, and a headache.
I got two letters addressed to two of my kids

To notify, whether your information was compromised or not.
Just about 80 million people impacted overall

and that's if their figures aren't conservative. This is just a form letter to let you know you're one of the lucky third of the country (or so) that was impacted.
I got it today too

I got the impression

That they don't know specifically each individual who was hacked bit instead only approximately how many people may have been compromised.
