Second most sacks on the team last year

giantgiantfan : 3/27/2015 10:23 pm
At least for me, Johnathan Hankins quitely had an amazing season with 7 sacks. I only realized it was that many a few days ago. That's a pretty big number for a DT. With the signing of Ellis to occupy double teams I'm certainly hoping he becomes a house hold name this year getting after the quarterback.
Sorry, We don't respond to positive posts

People also seem to forget about Ayers

Isn't he still on the team??? He was one of the best players on D last year
Hankins seems to be morphing
mrvax : 3/28/2015 7:53 am : link
from a good run stopper to a good run stopper/pass rushing DT. I really really hope we can keep him. Very good player.

I have to assume from his play that the man works very hard on his game.

At some point, we're going to have to re-sign these DTs we keep having to replace in the draft every few years.
one hopes to see hank and ellis on the field at the same time

of fred robbins so much

looks like a nose, but plays like a 3
I know it's not all on him

but I have a hard time praising highly anyone on the Giants D-Line last year given their abysmal run defense performance.
I would go full dork

and run Hank and Ellis on Defensive Ends for a few snaps, with Jenk (or Bromley) with JPP in the interior.

Just to give the OTs a big Eff You to think about, and rush a LB up the middle.

When they get one worth re-signing (production + value), they will. Joseph, Cofield, etc got more than they were probably worth. Hankins pass rush ability (not just sacks) likely makes him worth what he'll cost. The others were mostly run cloggers.

IIRC, JPP and Hankins (per PFF, FWIW) were rated very highly against the run. It's the other half of the DL (and the LBs) that was abysmal.
no surprise we

couldnt stop the run. we had guys like j-will out there. he still has not been signed by anyone and he was a core player for us. scary stuff - kevin lewis redux.
j.t. thomas and casillas are not Pro Bowlers but they are tough football players who provide big upgrade from j-will

Kiwi didn't do the run D any favors either. Nor did the DTs next to Big Hank, especially after Jenkins got banged up.
I often refer to Football Outsiders statistics
SwirlingEddie : 3/28/2015 9:04 am : link
and they show last year that in defending runs up the middle Giants were a poor 25th in the league (avg yds per attempt), but what really killed them were runs around the end, where the Giants ranked 31st - on both sides! Seems to support what our eyes were telling us, that there was something seriously wrong scheme-wise.

Anyway, I think Hankins is good and hope he and his teammates show significant run defense improvement under Spags this year.

Hankins > Cofield > Linval

Hopr he keeps improving and earns that contract from the Giants. Having a DT thats good against the run and can rush the passer is huge
Less than a year ago, BBI was doubting whether

he would be any good....
We still
TMS : 3/28/2015 10:23 am : link
need another DT up there unless Bromley develops this year.

Some of us weren't. He was awesome (albeit in limited snaps) his rookie season.
