We'll see what changes await the Isles lineup today having incurred the "wrath of Cappy". Neuvirth gets the start, and Cappy has hinted Viz may return today. Bet on line combos changing up front.
Boychuk believes the team just needs to clean up a few (nagging) mistakes:
If we play a full 60, we can beat anybody,” Boychuk said. “We should know it by now, but we took a period off and mental mistakes cost us the game. We were in it, but one bad shift and they score a goal.” |
Cappy feels that the defense has played well over the last 6-7 games and that there's no structural need to panic:
In the last few games, we haven’t given up much,” Capuano said. “I like the way we’ve been playing defensively. We just have to find some run support for our goalies.” |
But it doesn't mean that L1 (and their poor play from last game) are exempt:
They know. You don't have to say anything to those guys; they're the leaders of this team," Capuano said. "They know they have to be better in that situation, and when we talk about puck management, we're talking about clock management as well. As coaches, you trust your leaders. They won't do the same thing again. It's exciting to be where we are this time of year and the players have held themselves accountable all year long. It's their time." |
MDC's Oshawa Generals won 7-2 in their first playoff game last night and #71 was active with 3 assists.
Not much else to say except the slide needs to stop.
Let's Go Islanders!
All that we can do is just survive
All that we can do to help ourselves
Is stay alive...
Some thoughts from Sports Illustrated in discussing "New teams rising to fill NHL's rising power vacuum":
league-leading possession stats and a willingness to draft purely for skill.
Certainly a lot of thinking around that Cappy's comments on players trying to make too many "sexy plays" directed at KO. A bump down to L2 would make total sense, and I'd love to see a L1 of 27-91-18 today as some of us here have hoped for. Of course, it'd be a no brainer, IMO, to have Grabner back today (and considering the opponent, would make total sense)...so why do I think that Cappy does something completely counter, like bringing CMac back?
Oh well, let's go islanders! I am glad to see Lee/Tavares/Bailey back together again and Okposo might add some punch to the Nielsen line.
While I'll never root for this outcome, in the event we're one and done in the playoffs, the offshoot is that Snow has to can Capuano. How one can justify "hunches" instead of putting your best lineup out there each night, and on top of that not putting your optimized lineup combos on the ice is beyond me.
Ha, nice. It's just frustrating sometimes. Oh well, we have enough out there to get it done. Let's have a big weekend here and get the fanbase positive again. Need to finish strong and hopefully have home ice for a 1st round series vs Pitt.
Lines today: 27-91-12, 86-51-21, 26-29-18, 17-53-15. D pairs: 2-55, 37-3, 14-11.
Let's get some goals!
Only good news I've seen last hour
Another frustrating game so far. I still think we tie this up in the third. Lets go Islanders!
Every player here flubs it one way or the other.
Please comment on this.
You really have to have a laugh at this coach. Talking a bunch of bullshit in his press conference about changes coming and then he doesnt change a fucking thing really. I dont give a shit if some people think they arent readh but pulock and reinhart could play just as fucking well if not better than hickey/dehaan/strait but the isles dont have the balls. At this point I'd rather watch cmac and boulton over brock/kennedy'/bailey and of course grabner should be playing. Im sure the coach will say everything is good. Our battle level is high and we work hahd!
1. other teams having figured out our schemes
2. youth and inexperience at this level
3. fatigue and injuries
4. lack of elite talent
Martin has disappeared as pganut said.
See what I did there. Used yes yes yes in a negative.
Fish, not sure it's a speed guy that's necessary to get to the net. Anyone can do it, but they need to be willing to pay the price. Outside of Lee, no one else has shown the stones to do it. That's the difference between teams that succeed at the next level and those that don't. Gotta get in there regardless of any bruises or lost teeth you may suffer. It probably won't be this year, but they'll get it, like the 84 Oilers who saw the champion Islanders sitting in the locker room after winning the cup, with icepacks nursing the battle wounds necessary to win.
I play hoops and on occasion an ex NBA player plays with us. When he shows up the team around him plays tight and does not see ball as much.
When he is not there we have flow and solid shots.
If JT is drawing 3 players to him then someone needs to be open, a crisp pass needs to be made and put it back of net.
Not the best analogy but everyone standing around waiting for JT.
I'm done here. No sense talking to myself.
No way do they win 2morrow and they might be in 3rd and 1pt out of wildcard by monday. They will go nowhere with these clowns behind the bench. Never seen a coach keep his job after winless months in back to back years. Lines have always stayed the same for years under this coach even during tough stretches. A normal coach changes lines up and benches people, but not this asshole
The good news is WAS lost, the redpants are losing also. Anyone just see the obvious Crosby kick in that was ruled no kick, because Pens are at home and the league wants him to win the scoring title?
I watch other games and pucks go in the net like crazy. The players might be tight because of not scoring but one of these games someone is going to break the ice.
It's the same players as we had all year.
2. Why did this team stop cycling the puck and playing the corner?
3. Why do they SETTLE for weak point shots or bad angle shots?
4. What happened to their tenacity and guts?
2. Why did this team stop cycling the puck and playing the corner?
3. Why do they SETTLE for weak point shots or bad angle shots?

5. Why isn't the best team dressed every night?
6. If this just our horrible coaching rearing it's ugly head again? Hey Weight, great job with the pp. Bang up
For some reason capuano thought they had a playoff spot locked up and is resting players. They all lost the edge. Coach stepped off the gas so they won't burn out yet we are not good enough to play that game.
