at #9 they have us grabbing Scherff over Cooper, which is good news because I love having a chance at either.
With that said, look at the amazing choices we could have at 20+...Now we never know how everything will shake out (of course), but if we had someone who had to have Cooper or even Ray, like the Eagles, Browns or such, then we could get an extra 2nd rounder AND grab a really nice player.
I would be perfectly fine with Scherff or Cooper, but with the right offer, we would be in great shape trading down to the high 20's and still landing Peat, or one of the Collins (SS or T)... wow, that would be freakin awesome

These are the players probably gone by #9:
Winston.
Mariota.
Cooper.
White.
WIlliams
Fowler.
Beasley.
Scherff
That leaves Shelton,La'el Collins, and Peat as the most likely candidates. Is anybody really going to trade up for any of them? Not likely.
We're going to have to use the pick. From that group, I'd take Collins, but any of them are fine.
If he's not there and we can trade down and still grab Collins in the 20s, I'd sign up for that too.

Parker(WR) may be in the mix if he grades better than the red chip Oline guys.

huh? you pair beckham and cooper and your set offensively
you do not pass up a stud WR to grab an offensive lineman. Thats need over value. Also, look at JR quotes that will tel you a lot

Or people who actually understand football.. and realize the threat you create on offense by having a player like Cooper who pretty much is one of the top 5 talents in the draft on your team..
Maybe they understand how much stress that puts on a defense to cover Cooper and Beckham at the very least.. and even more stress if Cruz is healthy..
Maybe they understand the value of having two cost controlled top notch WRs for the next 4-5 years..
Maybe they understand that top notch GUARDS are available in round 2...
Kentucky didn't stop ND on three consecutive possessions until ND final three possessions.
Notre dame made 26 fg, 20 were lay ups or dunks. 40 points in the paint.
Read these on another site, can't confirm them.
No way you draft scherff, collins, shelton or Malcom brown if Cooper or Parker are there. I've been saying this until I'm blue in the face lately. No OL in this draft is worth a top 10 pick, not even top 15 IMO. Danny Shelton offers no pass rush threat whatsoever. Do we really want to get a guy at 9 that's strictly a run stuffer?! Atleast brown offers the threat of a pass rush but he's not worthy of a top 10 selection either.
One of Parker/Cooper have a chance to make an impact right out of the gate.
If the OL is as bad as what everyone around here says it is,wich it wont be,but lets just say it is. Scherff or Collins will have little to no impact whatsoever.
There will be guys there on day 2 that can come in right away and compete at G and be just as affective as either scherff or Collins.
While we could use an upgrade over Jerry I'd think competition at S is more of a need then OL help at this point. With Richburg moving to his natural C position it's going to make a world of difference over Walton. Pugh heading into the season healthy in year 3 should take another big step this year, and IMO he will.Beatty was mostly solid last year, and if he can stay consistent without reverting back to his 2013 form then We are set at T. The 2 G spots are a question mark unless Schwartz can stay healthy for all 16 games. Jerry on the other side is the weakest link IMO,unless it finally clicks for him,but based on his history it's not likely. They can live with him but Best case scenario is the Giants land a guy like tre Jackson in the 2nd or 3rd. There's other good football players in this draft at G from rounds 2-4. So they're not handcuffed into drafting a one with the 1st or 2nd pick.
Depth is needed at all 5 positions on the OL,Unless hopefully Jones turns out to be a player. Competition breeds success!
I really wouldn't feel comfortable with newhouse playing for an extended period. So they need someone to compete with Jerry in camp, and also they need depth at T. Luckily, like I stated above, the draft is 7 rounds and we have 8 picks overall. Not to mention Rookie free agency right after the draft.
Needless to say the Giants aren't handcuffed into reaching for a guy like acherff or Collins at 9 like most on here think. That pick reeks of desperation!!
Not all the OL problems are likely to be resolved this year but if they come away from the draft with someone to compete with Jerry and add some depth at T it will be a big step in the right direction and they will be a much improved untit.
