FA is not over yet....here are a couple guys left

shocktheworld : 3/28/2015 6:26 pm
I know we have all been a bit upset with the plan this offseason, and hopefully JR will prove us all wrong.

On that note, there are still 4 players from the Top 100 FA list floating in the wind.

I would love for us to grab even one of these guys, but 2 would be awesome.

Joe Barksdale T, Rams: he is rumored to look back towards to St. Louis, but I really don't understand why the Giants wouldn't have brought this guy in for a visit, at least, by now. He is only 26, and is an ascending talent at a position we desperatley need players...O-line...He is my #1 guy left I pray we somehow circle back to.

Brandon Spikes ILB, Bills: Ok Jerry, we got the fast WLB types, now let's bring in the thumper. He is still young (27) and should be cheap since he's a 2 down player. I would absolutely love this signing...let's bring some talent into the LB core and get that unit back where it should be. Spikes would be a small start toward that.

Jermain Gresham TE, Cincy: Young playmaker with proven blocking and play making ability. The only thing out there on him is that he is a bit of a screwball... I think our lockeroom would coax the good out of him and minimize the bad. He may be on a Martellus Bennett type 1 year prove it, but he could be our new Black Unicorn...haha

Stefen Wisniewski C, Raiders: The best inside player left on the FA market, and it is because he had offseason shoulder surgery and won't pass anyone's physical at this point. 25 year old stud Center, who could compete with Richburg for the starting spot, and the loser could kick inside to guard...probably the least likely of the 4 to really make sense, but he is damn good...

If I had to pick two players: Barksdale and Spikes would look freaking awesome in blue!
Barksdale

might be too expensive at this point..At least too expensive for the Giants..That would seem to tell me that he's not as valued by them as he is by some on this board..If he was valued, he probably would have been signed by this point, imo
At this point......

I think we're now looking at the 3rd wave of Free Agency and also Jun 1st cuts, as well. Giants will probably wait until after the draft now to pick up anymore Free Agents to fill holes.
Jermain Gresham
Eric from BBI : Admin : 3/28/2015 7:09 pm : link
has a herniated disc issue.
id also not spend our limited money left on another MLB
CGiants07 : 3/28/2015 7:25 pm : link
with beason and mcclain and Kennard are capable
Only a clear upgrade
mrvax : 3/28/2015 7:30 pm : link
at a good price. I think it would be wise to wait until the draft is over at this point.
Justin Blalock and Osi are 2 interesting guys out there
Eric on Li : 3/28/2015 7:33 pm : link
Blalock is possibly the last starter level OL out there and he's still reasonably young/healthy. Could easily slot him in at LG (hopefully at a reasonable number) and have a lot more flexibility in the draft.

Osi is still getting pressure, and as a pure 3rd down specialist on a low risk deal would be appealing. I think he's still got 5-10 sacks in him.

A lot easier to pull the trigger on Cooper in round 1 if you've got those guys in camp. JMO.
Spikes would cost more than he's worth.
Red Dog : 3/28/2015 7:46 pm : link
And he's not really what they need, either. He's great against the inside running game, but pretty useless against the pass or a wide open offense like Kelly's Iggles. Chances are he will end up back in Buffalo for a lot less than he was looking for.
Watch the Seattle game from last season again....

....300 rushing yards and 5 rushing TDs against us....and tell me that we don't need help in the middle and couldn't use Spikes. Get a clue.
Spikes is a two down ILB best suited for a 3-4
blueblood : 3/28/2015 8:43 pm : link
he is not a 4-3 MLB.. plain and simple..
Are any true upgrades? I have my doubts.....
George from PA : 3/28/2015 8:59 pm : link
Outside of the Penn St center and we are not moving away from our 2nd round pick
Barksdale would be nice but he's looking for stupid money.
Vin_Cuccs : 3/28/2015 9:09 pm : link
As Eric mentioned, Gresham just had back surgery.

As many have mention, Spikes isn't a schematic fit.

As far as a few free agents remaining, I'd gamble on a Rob Housler, Ben Ijalana, Chris Hairston, Justin Blalock, Mike Pollak, Dawan Landry, Usama Young, and Jeromy Miles.

50% of those yards were on read option plays
5 new players from our front 7 that started against Seattle

Our run defense will be better
And I believe there was a report that Barksdale

wasnt interested in coming to the Giants..

People need to remember.. just because we dont hear about teams reaching out to players doesnt mean it didnt happen. They could have reached out.. gotten back numbers guys were looking for and didnt pursue..
Wrong.

For the record, I'm not part of this "we" or "all." I'm not upset. I'm enjoying watching it play out.

Seriously, not everyone is upset. Take a deep breath. Hug your family. Enjoy a sunset. The world is a beautiful place. Being a Giants fan is fun.
When it comes to OL...
Milton : 3/29/2015 3:29 am : link
I think the Giants like the prospects in the draft better than the veterans available in free agency. It would be a waste of limited resources to shell out a multi-million dollar contract for Barksdale or Blalock and then have him sitting on the bench because you drafted La'el Collins in the first round.

I'm more interested in the wide receivers still available in the market. Maybe someone like Crabtree will view the Giants as a good place to go on a one year deal.
Prefer a young drafted OL
DavidinBMNY : 3/29/2015 7:57 am : link
over a Free Agent. Baas and Schwartz both got injured once coming here.
Maybe after
tomjgiant : 3/29/2015 10:26 am : link
the draft. We will have a better idea of what remaining holes need to filled when the dust settles.
The read option
RetroJint : 3/29/2015 2:42 pm : link
keys the weak-side end. That much is true. But the first part of the read , the first option is giving the RB the ball. The Giants interior defense could not handle their duties without help, which is why the DEs crashes down. When Wilson saw their movement, he kept the ball & went around end. The Giants had huge problems playing the run at LE, LT & MLB. Scheme means jack if you're getting your cock knocked off by the other guy.
