NFT: Pitino: Knicks could be on cusp of another Ewing-like era

sphinx : 9:15 pm

SYRACUSE — Remember what Patrick Ewing’s arrival did for the then-moribund Knicks? Rick Pitino — who once coached Ewing and the Knicks and knows a thing or two about building winning college and NBA programs — said he believes if Phil Jackson strikes gold in the NBA Draft with one of two players, it could be a Ewing era all over again.

Put Duke low-post force Jahil Okafor or Kentucky’s 7-foot road runner, Karl Anthony-Towns, in a Knicks uniform, and Pitino says let the good times start to roll.

Ewing was able to
Really become an offensive threat in the NBA after being labeled as a defensive player. Can Towns make that same type of transformation? Can Okafor?

And then the season begins.
Comparing either one

especially Okafor to Ewing is laughable. Patrick was a superb defensive player.
The opportunity is there, no question.

Hope it's a great summer.
Okafor can be better than Ewing offensively

The kid is only an 18 year old freshman and is elite at the college level. His upside in the pros is off the charts good.

The question that remains...

Can his defense improve enough worth the right choosing to not be a liability on the other side of the court.

Improve enough with the right coaching**

And the knicks could certainly fuck things up but they haven' t had this kind of looming offseason buzz in decades. They haven't had this kind of draft pick since the 80s and this kind of cap space since the mid 90s and maybe even prior to that. And they have Melo.

The Knicks would have to break new ground to truly fuck this up. If they just do an ok job over this next 6-7 months they should be fielding a decent to good team in 2015-2016 and beyond...

Plus Phil is here and while it's fashionable and easy to say phil is a fish out of water and the Dolan losing culture will inevitably sabotage his tenure, I think it's safe to say the Knicks are in good hands right now.

Only eight games left!

Yes Knicks please don't fuck this up by going on a little winning streak to end the season. Minnesota has two more wins than the Knicks hopefully they go on a little run so we can secure the best odds for pick #1.
Minny has a three-game home stand

coming up against beatable teams, and they play the Lakers in LA. Hopefully another win or two would put them out of reach. I'm not sure the Knicks can win more than one. Without Shved, they don't have much offense.
And how many

GTT, please, come back to us. I still have no idea why you are going on and on with this after having it pointed out to you 20 times that the horn sounded right after grant let the shot go.
he had 6 points

and 4 turnovers. He also had as many assists against Utah as I did sitting on my couch. But yeah, watch him pass out of the double teams! Who cares that he couldn't do it for shit against Utah. Watch him tonight!

He's not a bad passer, but Towns is better imo.
One problem with that theory.

The lottery will happen and the Knicks will pick 4th.
