Because it affects our pick - Jets at #6

Bob in Newburgh : 3/29/2015 10:19 am
If you have actually analysed the Jets QB situation (meaning you do not have an irrational hatred for Geno or an irrational love for MM),

you come to the conclusion that the way the Jets are happiest is if MM is already gone or they have an offer for the pick, that they cannot refuse, already in hand.

What we cannot know is what the time-frame mandate for the new coaching/management staff is.

If it is win now, or else, MM is an unlikely pick. In the rush to replace Geno, people conveniently forget that MM is a textbook example of a developmental player unless he is selected by a team willing to revolutionize NFL offenses.

If the pressure to win now is somewhat more relaxed he becomes more likely if a team is absolutely sold on his development, they think they are selecting the next Aaron Rogers, for example.

I believe that the Jets are going to select a 3-4 OLB rusher type or a WR if they have a strong belief that the WR will be a superstar in the League. I do not believe that Gregory is necessarily off limits for this franchise.
I suspect that MM will be gone by the 2nd or 3rd pick.

Teams are already throwing bluffs that they're gonna pick him early, and I think that's to encourage trade offers. Someone's gonna trade up for him, imo, unless Tennessee takes him for themselves.
A new GM and coach

Usually does not result in a "win now" season.
Should read....
Jolly Blue Giant : 3/29/2015 10:29 am : link
Doesn't not result in a win now mindset. I think the draft MM if he is available and say that it's an open competition. They can start Geno and allow MM to develop. Best case scenario would be that Geno does well and you can make a trade down the line. The fan base is tally patient with a new regime.
Ugh....

Should say "doesn't result"
If not MM

I think Jets will go either Beasley or Scherff. Assuming that Fowler is gone. Think they would take one of those two over Cooper and/or White.
Hard for me to believe they wouldn't take MM if he were there

You're a new coach and you're going to hang your hat on GS? Yikes! Taking a devopmental QB is a ticket to at least a 3 or 4 year tenure as he gets going. But it is the Jets so anything is possible.
Just can't see the jets drafting MM
djm : 3/29/2015 11:01 am : link
But they could trade. It would be typical to see the jets trade the pick for a boatload of picks and then hear jets fans wax poetic about how awesome their team is.

My money is on the jets trading out with a team desperate for the pick.
We have no idea what to expect from a new GM and coach

I do think that them getting Brandon Marshall lessens the likelihood that they take a WR. However, it doesn't prevent that from happening either. I, too, think that it is either MM or a defensive pass rusher.
Beasley could easily be the pick

An o-line could help the Jets, but not a great value pick at #6.
I haven't watched Jets games except

a few clips here and there. Smith looks like he can make all the throws. I don't know if he's getting pressured back there or why he has a lot of INTs. If they feel he can improve with better protection or better skill players they might be satisfied with him.

You really never know what the Jets will do. With new GM and HC, it's anyone's guess. I'd imagine Smith has less trade value than Nassib right now.
Williams should go

#2 if the GM knows what he is doing. The Jags at #3 should hold the cards. No can't miss prospect at #3 and MM should be there for the taking. I expect the Jags to trade down.
Jets did schedule a private work with Mariota so there is interest.

Whether it's just due diligence or whether he's still there at 6 remains to be seen.
Presuming JW at #1

If MM goes at 6, and this being a 2 QB draft in rd 1, it reshuffles deck and likely meant Tenn went D, Oak WR,and a top DL and/or OL goes, leaving #2 DL or OL, and the other WR.
The premise of this thread is completely flawed.
Mr. Bungle : 3/29/2015 3:10 pm : link
The Jets are not in win-now mode. They just hired a rookie head coach and a rookie GM.

Haven't seen Geno make anywhere close to all the throws.

makes all the throws...to his team and the other team.

no way the Jets pass on MAriotta if available.

Carl, it all depends upon what Tennessee is offered for the pick. There might be lots of teams willing to trade up for Mariota and Tennessee needs a LOT.

High-larious....
What do the Jets need?
giantgiantfan : 3/30/2015 11:29 am : link
It seems they need play makers on offense. They don't have a game breaker at RB, no WR, and no QB. If I'm the Jets I draft Cooper, White, or Beasley (who should fit in great in their 3-4). Then in round 2 I hope one of the top RBs is still available. I think they could also use help at CB, but I haven't heard any names at that position being touted in the 10...
