NFT: New York Rangers vs. Washington Capitals, 3:00 pm

arcarsenal : 3/29/2015 10:57 am
Not a good day yesterday. Expected Hank to give up a few and be a little rusty but it didn't help that Toronto spotted the Bruins a goal right in the beginning. Just one of those days... our rusty goalie plays for the first time in 7+ weeks, we're coming off clinching and going into the building of a desperate team playing for their lives.. it had all the makings of a let down. Hank did get better as the game wore on.

Right back at it today, though. Talbot goes today and I think he'll get one more start in one of the two games that comprise our last b2b. Hank will get the rest of them which gives him 7 total to get right.

Couple of other notes...

- Trying to get Skjei signed and to HFD ASAP so that they could possibly have him available during the playoffs as a spare defenseman.

- Marty has been skating recently and is probably getting pretty close to returning. We should see him by the end of the week, IMO.

Anyway.. fuck the Caps. We've been good at bouncing back this year so it's time to do it again.

opportunities to stay in this game. Game plan, stay out of the box and try to get some SOG and production on our PP.

Oh, wow. O SOG. Such a fucking formidable power play.
Don't have the numbers
Stufftherun : 3/29/2015 4:36 pm : link
but we have to have one of the worst, if not the worst PP, since January. How long can a team go without any production out a PP? Yes, yes, I know, many a successful teams have done well in the post season without a strong PP but is that enough to go into the playoffs with?
Go get a fucking stick!

That last goal was killer. They were rolling prior to the Washington PP. Rangers have been pinned deep ever since and have been committing sloppy turnovers and did 0 on that power play, again.
Jesus! DiPietro

Yandle is hurting this team in both ends. Getting nothing from him on the PP and he's a liability in his own end.

I think it started 8-10 games ago when they went into that scoring draught. They won, but were winning 1-0, 2-1 games and struggling offensively. Then the injuries to Klein and St Louis. Now with Hank coming back with them not scoring and with some injuries ... it is a potentially worrisome time.
Though to be fair
chopperhatch : 3/29/2015 5:17 pm : link
The entire team is making poor decisions and kicking it around the ice.

I would agree with this and you can make all of the excuses you want about injuries and scheduling but we're witnessing stretches of fundamentally bad hockey with a ton of unforced errors and turnovers that can easily be avoided. Why try to clear the puck through a defender in your end or make a risky or blind pass when all you need to do is fire the puck up the boards?
Now off to Winnipeg and Minnesota

The 4th line made up for yesterday
Stufftherun : 3/29/2015 5:36 pm : link
with a nice -2 across the board and the call up, Summers, also with a -2. Yandle ends up even somehow but if his last two games are any indication of what we can expect from him in tight checking, playoff like games against physical teams then we're in for a real treat. Fucking Kostka.2!

Yea he was not making good decisions. But the whole team was making plays like that today. Even McD had a couple of shitty touches.

Agreed they had better treat these last two weeks as the playoffs.

Im not happy with the last two games, but I think you need to lighten up a little bit. AV didnt look too happy either.
This team is ready for the playoffs
Giants2012 : 3/29/2015 5:40 pm : link
Give them a break before the playoffs. We've seen many teams tear it up all regular season and appear fatigued come playoff time.

They'll turn it up

I'd like to lighten up but in the sample size that we've witnessed thus far, and I'm not alone here, Yandle has been dreadful at best.

Glass > Yandle ?
AV just said
Stufftherun : 3/29/2015 6:19 pm : link
in the post game press conference with regard to the backend, "there were obvious better choices with time". That crystalizes everything we witnessed.

When a player/s has time, makes a poor decision and does the one thing you can ill afford to do, it says a lot about that player/s. Just don't want to keep falling back on excuses is all.

Back at it on Tuesday against yet another team fighting for a playoff spot.
The players are coasting a bit.. you can see it.
arcarsenal : 3/29/2015 6:58 pm : link
They took their foot off the gas once they clinched. I think they're just trying to get to the playoffs at this point. I'd like to see them get back into playing strong hockey in the next 10 days or so but I'm not terribly worried about it.

From now until playoffs they need to accomplish two (well, three) things.. . get Henrik Lundqvist into form and eliminate the mistakes and get/stay healthy.

That's really it. Home ice would be good to have but I'm not going to be heartbroken if we don't get it all the way through.
Yandle is in a tough stretch
Deej : 3/29/2015 7:04 pm : link
when he first came here his defense was much better than i had expected. Although my understanding is that the head scratching giveaway is his core drawback.
Pretty shitty weekend of hockey
MetsAreBack : 3/29/2015 8:15 pm : link
Yandle is really making Sather look bad right now. Giving up franchise player assets for ... that?

7 games to right the ship, lock up the fuckin' division, and get ready for Washington or Boston. We knew Ottawa couldn't keep it up. Not sure which I'd rather face.
keep in mind
MetsAreBack : 3/29/2015 8:17 pm : link
was also 6th game in 9 days. Games in hand are nice - but we've been playing a metric ton of games lately. Guys are tired, and players like MSL would be back by now if it counted

Really looking forward to getting Klein back though. As if Micheletti didn't bring up the point enough today - he's such an important part of this backline.
Rangers Have Been
Percy : 3/29/2015 10:49 pm : link
Very bad against the original six lately. Yandle has been a disaster.
Let's relax I told myself
blueblood'11 : 3/30/2015 8:39 am : link
If this is what we see in the playoffs then we can be concerned. Let's face it, other then the presidents trophy they really have nothing to play for. That's what I thought until I saw the Penguins and Islanders closing in six points back with enough games to play to catch them if they don't get their heads out of their asses. And please, can Zuccarello shot the fucking point once in awhile instead of always looking to pass when he's right at the doorstep.
I hated the Yandle trade at the time
Greg from LI : 3/30/2015 9:26 am : link
And he's done virtually nothing to make me reconsider.
Remaining games
NYerInMA : 3/30/2015 10:19 am : link
3/31 @ Winnipeg (playoff team)
4/2 @ Minnesota (playoff team)
4/4 vs. NJ (not a playoff team, but they always play us tough)
4/6 vs. CBJ (same)
4/7 @ NJ (same)
4/9 vs. OTT (playoff candidate)
4/11 @ WAS (just owned us yesterday)

There is definitely no room for letup considering that PIT and the Isles are starting to wake up again.
they need Klein back in the worst way
Greg from LI : 3/30/2015 10:27 am : link

They do need Klein
