Not a good day yesterday. Expected Hank to give up a few and be a little rusty but it didn't help that Toronto spotted the Bruins a goal right in the beginning. Just one of those days... our rusty goalie plays for the first time in 7+ weeks, we're coming off clinching and going into the building of a desperate team playing for their lives.. it had all the makings of a let down. Hank did get better as the game wore on.

Right back at it today, though. Talbot goes today and I think he'll get one more start in one of the two games that comprise our last b2b. Hank will get the rest of them which gives him 7 total to get right.

Couple of other notes...

- Trying to get Skjei signed and to HFD ASAP so that they could possibly have him available during the playoffs as a spare defenseman.

- Marty has been skating recently and is probably getting pretty close to returning. We should see him by the end of the week, IMO.

Anyway.. fuck the Caps. We've been good at bouncing back this year so it's time to do it again.

the Caps also played yesterday and have struggled a bit the last few games. Holtby with a rare day off yesterday, let's see what kind of effect that will have on him.

Stay out of the fucking box and conversely, would be nice to see us force them into a few penalties, which we haven't seen in a while. Then there's the anemic PP, just have to figure a way to get it going.
Barring injury
Deej : 3/29/2015 11:35 am : link
I'll be shocked is Skjei doesnt end up as a top 4 dman within a few seasons. Needs a bit of weight, but he's a guy who can control the ice defensively.
We played crappy in two of the last three

I expected them to support Hank's return with a big effort. It was disappointing.

Time to get it going again.

...but pulling for you today. And as an aside, I live in the DC area, and took my kids to breakfast in a local restaurant today (and I'm wearing my Islanders cap as per gameday custom), and encountered a Caps fan in full regalia with his kids who decided to talk some smack to me. I was going to unload with both barrels but remembered I'm in front of my kids, but all was good when my son looked at me after the Caps nerd said his bit and said loud enough..."Daddy, aren't the Capitals a team that's never won a cup?". Caps nerd looked like he'd been stabbed with a rusty butterknife, shut up and closed out his bill.
I dont think you can keep your foot on the gas for 80+ games
Deej : 3/29/2015 12:33 pm : link
December thru deep playoff run isnt doable. I wonder whether the vets are giving themselves a bit of a break right now for the run. The schedule makers really fucked us this season with so many games down the stretch.
In my opinion
blueblood'11 : 3/29/2015 1:31 pm : link
The Only thing the Rangers have going for them right now is to win the league and home ice throughout. Given the history I'm not so sure that's a good thing. And let's be real here, these teams the Rangers are playing are in ultra desparation mode. What happened to them against the Kings and Bruins doesn't surprise or worry me. When the playoffs start and their desparation to win kicks in their effort and play will show.

See if the Rangers can go 3 fucking games without the refs calling a fucking penalty, just a coincident I guess since we all know the league wants the Rangers to win the cup. What a fucking joke of a league, disgrace is what yesterday's game was, the field goal for the first goal, and then a player hits Glass's head into the fucking boards and doesn't even get a call! I sure am glad the league is helping the rangers, hate to see them fucking us. I want this championship more then any other I ever wanted, and that includes all the Giant and Yankee rings and the 1994 ring. I have followed since 1966, and nothing has changed, the old powers are still there and we have to have replays in Toronto, what a surprise, I said it yesterday the next call that goes our way from there will be the fucking first, and that is not an exaggerations.

It's doubly shocking because we needed to call up a RHD and McIlrath is one. Allen is a LHD, but can play both sides. Summers is a LHD, but I don't know if he can play both sides.

I think it started 8-10 games ago when they went into that scoring draught. They won, but were winning 1-0, 2-1 games and struggling offensively. Then the injuries to Klein and St Louis. Now with Hank coming back with them not scoring and with some injuries ... it is a potentially worrisome time.

I would agree with this and you can make all of the excuses you want about injuries and scheduling but we're witnessing stretches of fundamentally bad hockey with a ton of unforced errors and turnovers that can easily be avoided. Why try to clear the puck through a defender in your end or make a risky or blind pass when all you need to do is fire the puck up the boards?

in the post game press conference with regard to the backend, "there were obvious better choices with time". That crystalizes everything we witnessed.

When a player/s has time, makes a poor decision and does the one thing you can ill afford to do, it says a lot about that player/s. Just don't want to keep falling back on excuses is all.

Back at it on Tuesday against yet another team fighting for a playoff spot.
The players are coasting a bit.. you can see it.
arcarsenal : 3/29/2015 6:58 pm : link
They took their foot off the gas once they clinched. I think they're just trying to get to the playoffs at this point. I'd like to see them get back into playing strong hockey in the next 10 days or so but I'm not terribly worried about it.

From now until playoffs they need to accomplish two (well, three) things.. . get Henrik Lundqvist into form and eliminate the mistakes and get/stay healthy.

That's really it. Home ice would be good to have but I'm not going to be heartbroken if we don't get it all the way through.

If this is what we see in the playoffs then we can be concerned. Let's face it, other then the presidents trophy they really have nothing to play for. That's what I thought until I saw the Penguins and Islanders closing in six points back with enough games to play to catch them if they don't get their heads out of their asses. 3/31 @ Winnipeg (playoff team)
4/2 @ Minnesota (playoff team)
4/4 vs. NJ (not a playoff team, but they always play us tough)
4/6 vs. CBJ (same)
4/7 @ NJ (same)
4/9 vs. OTT (playoff candidate)
4/11 @ WAS (just owned us yesterday)
