where he got hurt (the one early in the season when he and Cruz put up huge numbers) if he could have recovered and went on to have a good career. He was never the same after that game and his knees and ankle continued to take a beating the rest of the season.
wasn't playing through an injury - it was that he got compartment syndrome and was never ever to get the explosion back. It is unlikely he ever will as he was left with nerve and vein issues in his legs.

Your posts on this have caused me to re-thing the "dogging it" posture I have taken
I don't know much about Nick's work ethic. what I do know is that the compartment syndrome really scared the crap out of him.
For those who don't know what it is, it is a complication that will arise from some lower limb injuries (and sometimes abdominal injuries)where the pressure inside the leg will build up can cause some serious problems, mainly because the sustained pressure starts damaging veins, blood vessels, muscles, etc.
Nick's was so serious, that at one point, amputation would have been a possibility if deep incisions to release the pressure failed.
I really refrain from questioning player's efforts. I remember some people ripping into carlos Emmons after what looked to be poor effort in a game when it turned out he was playing with a separated shoulder.
Nick's got compartment syndrome in Nov of 2010 but went on to
have a good 2011 and a fantastic playoff run en route to a dominant Superbowl.
I don't seem to remember him struggling until 2012. Maybe is just took a while to catch up with him but I thought he made a full recovery from the scare with compartment syndrome.
Only he probably knows for sure, I am curious what he would have to say about it (assuming he could be honest with the public.)
Unfortunately, having compartment syndrome caused complications after his other lower leg injuries because of the nerve and vein damage.
The effect on Nicks long term is that he has circulatory problems which will affect the rate and extent of healing and his ability to regain strength and mass in his legs, which will affect speed and stability.
After learning the extent of his condition, I'm actually really surprised he's been able to still play in the NFL, even if he's now a role player or a marginal WR.
That does make a lot of sense. That could have been a huge
I got so frustrated trying to sign up again that my handle got shorter with each effort; lazy of me. Hopefully I can find time to start posting more again.

Did not know anything about this. Thanks for putting it up.
that caused Nicks to be either late or absent from his scheduled trainer's rehabs. It probably wasn't CS either when he came down with a mysterious illness that kept him from practicing and therefore playing just prior to playing the Cows in 2013.
we expect players to be robots, and in a perfect world, we'd suit up Cleatus and take on all comers.
I'm pretty sure it has to be really difficult to try and make sense of how to handle having diminished physical performance just a couple years from being a top player.
I can't speak to what players are thinking, but if you've been told you have permanent damage to a body part or have had somebody recommend that you retire or take extended time off, I'm pretty sure that isn't easy to process.
and in a way, his decline was probably easier for most fans to accept because he went from being a top player to being poor. Nicks still is servicable - which then draws into play questions about attitude and work ethic as if only he is holding himself back from stardom instead of physical limitations.
The threads where people actually proposed that he was intentionally
being lazy when he was playing for a contract extension were comedy gold.
I'm ashamed to admit I was one of those who felt he was dogging it..Had I known what he was dealing with, I'm rather certain that assertion would never have come from me
Perform a search engine search for "compartment syndrome"
Should have known when during a contract year ineffectiveness equates to being done.
SF aren't winning anything any time soon.
I'm so fucking glad we have fans like him.
The 9ers or Nicks? ;)

With Nicks, it is a situation where there has been damage to veins and nerves, which will present complications for the rest of his life.

You used to be so dangerous!
Hopefully you will..You're one of the good ones

That is the aspect most fans lose focus of.

No wonder Nicks was concerned. Most of us would be scared shitless.
