So, why hasn't Brown put pen to paper so that the Giants could check the 'sign a veteran safety' item off that to-do list? We know that there has been constant communication between Brown's representatives and the Giants. A source tells Big Blue View that the Giants are basically low-balling the 27-year-old Brown, offering a deal at or close to the veteran minimum and refusing thus far to budge from that. Why all this disrespect for Brown? Well, the painful truth is that as popular a player as Brown is it is not difficult to make an argument that Brown may have been the worst safety in the league -- at least against the pass -- in 2014. |
How about knowing what a fair market value is for a player who was below average.
Imo
I wonder what the passer rating would have been without the 8 interceptions? 152?
He was atrocious in 2012 as well but got incredibly lucky to have some balls thrown right to him.
Imo
Yep.
Stevie should be fortunate he has a job calling him. To me he isn't a starter, but given the team's inexperience, he just might be in case of trouble Berhe or Taylor run into.
I hope both young men are up to the cause.
But it's a brutal business and Brown isn't worth more than that. Guys like him will be available in early September as teams pair down their rosters.
Very little downside for the Giants to wait it out into they get their terms. And when they do sign him (or another guy like him) it'll be more or less plug 'n play. Spagnolo and Merritt should know how to best employ the veteran with warts.
Next to no chance Brown is here beyond 2015 anyway. He's not exactly negotiating from a position of power.
Unfortunately, it looks that way
2012 was a mirage. He's a big safety who lacks quickness and who isn't very physical.
Lastly Brown did not grade nearly as poorly as Rolle by PFF, if that means something to you .

RJ, I emphasized "possible." Not so much because of Spags' schemes. More about Spags' experience in Philly and Baltimore with coaching DBs
And I missed when he was a "popular player."
He was on here a few year ago. I recall debating the whole playmaker because he got interceptions thing. I never seen one DB in so many lucky spots than Brown found himself in 2012.
And for good reason...he was terrible last year.
The demand just isn't there, Stevie.
With the way this team performed the last two years it's hard to explain signing any of our free agents at all. Now is the time to show those guys looking for the big payday at the end of this season it's a produce or walk option no in betweens. If the business is dirty then be sure you are being dirty to all concerned.
I would feel much better about our S situation if it was a bunch of young guys and Rolle. Brown as an alternative doesn't give me a fuzzy feeling.
I'm sure if he sits out the team will be absolutely devastated.
