A little help

Giants : 3/30/2015 11:26 am
How often have the Giants drafted someone in the first round that we never heard of them going to check the player out ? It seems to me when we hear about them checking a player out it is just them doing their due diligence. It is not the player they actually draft in the first round. I could be way off here

"checking a player out"

They will have access to just about every first rounder at the combine

go back to the '70s.

going to his pro day, setting up meeting or bringing him in for a visit

it's pretty regular, or at least pretty recent. Can't give you who off the top of my head, but I recall drafting those that they appeared not to care to further investigate.

that is what I was thinking. The player they draft number one is a player they feel sure of. The ones you hear about them bring in for visit or going to visit are the ones they still have questions about. Does not mean they will not draft them number one. It just means they still had questions about them. It just seems the guy you did not hear about them being in contact with, is the guy they draft at one
Agree with Ron Mexico, what do you mean by checking out?

That doesn't happen for the top picks.

There may be cases where the Giants don't interview a player at the Senior Bowl, Pro Day or the combine and still pick him high. Certainly, there are a lot of players who aren't invited to New Jersey for an interview (although they like to bring in local players) because they have a limited number of chances and want to interview the more dubious candidates.

Somewhere along the line, the Giants probably talk to most of the draft picks.

"checking out a player" probably means they have interest.

However, maybe when they visited, the player didn't pan out as expected.

Or that they had player X pegged for a round 4 value but he was gone in the 3rd. Or that a player with a higher value was available as well so they went in that direction.

Relax your brain a little?
