While the idea of Cooper is exciting to imagine and the desperation at safety may lead some to want Collins, most on BBI seem to lean towards OL/DL in Rd 1 and 2.
I think the addition of Selvie is more significant than Ellis. Perhaps another way to put it is that Selvie is more reliable and Ellis may present higher upside but lower downside. I also think DE with Moore and Ayers (to go along with JPP and Selvie) is deeper than the DT spot.
If we were to go DT/OT, would your preference be:
Door # 1:
Rd 1 - your OT of choice, whether Collins, Sherff etc.
Rd 2 - DT Michael Bennett (my favorite in this tier), Armstead, Davis
or
Door # 2:
Rd 1 - DT Shelton (who I don't think is a one trick pony as a NT) or Brown (who I continue to hear good things about, but honestly haven't seen him)
Rd 2 - OG Tomlinson (or Jackson, Cann in that order)
I think either strategy would require a 2nd OL later in the draft. Personally, I like a mock that looks like this:
1 OT Collins
2 DT Bennett
3 S Prewitt or Derron Smith (more of s free than a strong)
4 CB Senquez Golson
5 OG Jamil Douglas or Shaq Mason
6 DE Jermauria Rasco
7 WR Dres Anderson
7a RB Thomas Rawls
Draft Scherff or Peat at #9, and OO or Preston Smith at #40, and you've addressed two big needs with premium talent.
BPAs, of course.
But, it is to say you're picking premium positional talent when you should.
#40 OL- running game and ToP help both the defense and Eli
#74 WR- very strong class...starting caliber will be available
#108 FS- this is the range to get one in this draft
Door #3
Door #2
lol!
I'm probably in the minority but I wouldn't take any of the DL at #9. Depending on how things lie I might consider Beasley but as a 4-3 LB in the Anthony Barr/Von Miller mold. Other than that I'd pass but there are a few DL as well as OL that I like and should be around at 40.
Gregory has probably been significantly downgraded on the Giants board. They take some character risks in the draft but not this high.
Shane Ray has been the better football player of the two imo. The instincts and production are there. He never quits on a play. The question is how do we utilize him.
Bud Dupree has the elite physical profile but is the 13 Wonderlic a factor in his ordinary production.
Ray is currently ranked #9/#11 on GBN/CBS accordingly while Dupree is #21/#16.
I would pick Ray if he's on the highest remaining tier of prospects available.
No you don't
