Trae Waynes at 9.

Zebra3 : 3/30/2015 4:15 pm
If all our target choices are gone, then how do pass up the top CB in the draft and a guy who can be a great corner. Can start right away at FS. Kid is not afraid to tackle great hands, great instincts. Got to draft a real talented player drafting in the top ten. I think Spags would love a guy like this. Check out his tape.

If all our target choices are gone, TRADE DOWN

There is only one target choice. That is an offensive lineman. If the target choice is gone, everyone else is available in the 12-18 range.

You don't let a guy with these skills go. Prince is hurt all the time and the clock is ticking on DRC. This guy looks like Richard Sherman out there. Only this guy loves contact.
I'm on board

I expect the Giants to win the Superbowl this year no matter who they draft because they win every 4 years starting back in 07/08.

So much dopiness. Prince isn't hurt all the time. And also, you don't just trade down because you want to. Someone has to make the offer/have the interest.
You would have to consider him
mushroom : 3/30/2015 4:32 pm : link
particularly if he is clearly the highest graded player left and even more so if the Giants think he can fill in at FS. He would also be good insurance for Prince and DRC.

That is an extreme rationale.

Did Prince get injured and miss games last year?
How about the year before that? How many seasons has he played 16 or more games?
A hammy early in a career is almost expected
Randy in CT : 3/30/2015 4:38 pm : link
and a torn biceps is an unusual injury that I wouldn't bet on happening again.

Having said all that, CB could certainly be the pick.
I think it'd
phil in arizona : 3/30/2015 4:48 pm : link
be a great pick.
Reese has to hit on this pick
Zebra3 : 3/30/2015 5:05 pm : link
It can't be a development player. The game is all about passing and this is a guy who can take away another teams weapons.
If Cooper,White, any of the Edge rushers are gone you have to do it.
Non of the Olinemen are top 9 picks.. Lots of value Oline in round 2,3.
I like trade down
old man : 3/30/2015 5:07 pm : link
if we can find a partner at the right price, since TW doesn't thrill me, and at best, the best in a weak 1st round class..
And with at least 3 OL and 3 DL that BBI seem to have rated rather close to each other in their respective positions, if the FO cant find one of those 6 a better need/talent marriage at 9 than Waynes, we may need to strongly question their evaluation process.
BPA

Can't have too many top shelf CBs
If he could
PaulN : 3/30/2015 5:17 pm : link
Play free safety at the highest level, just like as if he were playing corner, then I am all in. How would you know that though, that is the $50,000 question. If he is a great future cornerback, I would be Ok with the pick, if he is a great future cornerback who could play free safety at a high level, then the pick is an excellent pick, if he is a great future cornerback, that would play free safety, but not that well, then you must consider trading down if you can get a partner, which would be easy if we were the pats, impossible since we are the Giants. Just listen to this board, oh, you have to have a partner, like it is so hard, and it is, for the Giants. The Pats move up and down all the time with no problem at all.
Free safety has to be fast
Zebra3 : 3/30/2015 5:28 pm : link
With good instincts
A good tackler ,fundamentally sound
Good hands , great hands concentration
Tall enough to play big TEs he's 6ft plus.
Can jump a route or recover when burned. Burner 4.32 40
Come up and support the run defense, loves contact.
Blitz,
Waynes can do all this right now. Also play shutdown corner.
Elite
AcidTest : 3/30/2015 5:32 pm : link
coverage skills, and rocket sled speed. 4.31 40 at the combine, and 19 bench reps, which is excellent for a CB. Willing tackler. But he's much too grabby, something that will have to be cleaned up at the next level. He's also 190 pounds soaking wet, although maybe he could add some weight.

He's not a complete player. But then nobody in this draft is, even in the top ten. It's also a passing league, and he has elite coverage skills. We need OL, but there will be plenty in the second and third round, and we get Schwartz back this year.

I was initially against taking Waynes at #9, but not anymore. I also agree that Reese could easily take him.
I would love

This pick.I think he could play fs
you can get a really good ol in rd.2 take the playmaker first, then get the plow horse in rd.2
I read he is stiff
SomeFan : 3/30/2015 5:41 pm : link
and his shuttle run was not that great.
What makes you so sure he can start at free safety?

Zebra, he doesn't consistently play shutdown corner.
yatqb : 3/30/2015 5:57 pm : link
My memory is that he got schooled by a very ordinary WR from MSU.
So now, we are drafting a player in the top 10 and...
drkenneth : 3/30/2015 6:05 pm : link
changing his position? Does that sound like a sound decision?
Guy is a great football player
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 3/30/2015 6:06 pm : link
He would make the Giants a lot better. I would rather a different pick but would have an absolutely no problem with him in blue.
Waynes is far from a sure thing imo
Torrag : 3/30/2015 6:11 pm : link
CB isn't a strength at the top of this draft so the best CB available argument is hollow. Press-man is his bread and butter. His technique in other coverages is poor. Poor agility testing(7+ 3-cone/4.4 shuttle) correlates to his struggles playing in space. He's nothing special in run support either.

He has ball skills and elite straight line and recovery speed. Right now he's a one trick pony cover man. There will be better options on the board if we keep the #9 pick imo.

Your picking top 10
You are getting someone that can start and make your team better.
The Giants have drafted guys before and changed their positions.
Richberg Shawn Williams etc
Huh? Richburg was a 2nd rd pick
drkenneth : 3/30/2015 6:27 pm : link
who was moved out of necessity from G to C. Shaun Williams played S on college and the NFL.

Is there a point somewhere in there?
If we were looking to go that way and could trade back,
Ira : 3/30/2015 6:35 pm : link
Jalen Collins is another top corner who'd make a very good free safety.

Wow. The trade down/change player's position double combo!
Kevin Johnson is my #1CB
raever : 3/30/2015 6:54 pm : link
Similar profile as Waynes with better hips and 'wiggle' to him. Slower 40 time but elite agility testing. Both guys fall short of the top 10 imo.

Williams lined up played corner a few games his rookie year.

Since Coughlin has been here we have heard nothing but versatility.
We like guys that can play more than one position.
Thats the point.
Reese needs to come out of this draft with a starter, someone who plays from day one and makes the team better.
That's the point.
This guy is rated top ten on most boards
That's my point
Also CB and WR are the hardest positions to hit on in the pro game.
Now that the game is in the air you need ball skilled guys.
No one doubts this guy can play or he wouldn't be rated as high.
Now do you get my point

Or do you just want to bitch?
BTW if he doesn't work out at FS you have a great player if Prince or DRC can play. So it's win win.
Wouldn't surprise me
jeff57 : 3/30/2015 7:04 pm : link
But I see his value at a few spots lower.
you don't take a corner at 9

This line of thinking is just wrong and leads to broken TVs/remotes.
No way

he could play safety. Here's a comment from CBS Sports:

Quote:
Thin-limbed and is all "arms and legs" with his lanky build, clearly lacking ideal bulk and muscle definition.

Zebra3 : 3/30/2015 9:46 pm : link
Watch highlights watch him support the run defense and take down the RB. All players can ad mass they all do their first year. He is a sound tackler that all you can ask for out of college. Stevie brown could tackle for shit.
This guy has a ton of potential. If he is there and the WRs and rushers are gone it's not a bad choice.
Remote Throw ...
Bluesbreaker : 3/30/2015 10:23 pm : link
Originally I wanted Gurley but before he blew
out his Knee .
Vic Beasly looked great because the Obvious LB situation.
The General argument is WR Vs , o-line .
I want O-line but will trust that they won't and
cannot Blow This Draft especially Early but rounds
3 and 4 could bring added Depth as well .
I want a Road Grader in round 1 or 2 the short yardage
was pathetic last year .
