that monster year. He would have done it in 2014, IMO. He's very good but not elite.
Hopefully Moore will improve his play in 2015 so a loss of JPP would have minimal affect. The Giants have got to find another good pass rusher in this draft though.
If I were the Giants, I'd plan as if JPP was in his last year here.
Then does what he always which is lead the league in tackles for defensive linemen...then what?? It's simple...make a descision about JPP...either pay him now or trade him before this year's draft...JPP is a safer bet then any pass rusher in this year's draft...
I bet if the Giants approached one of the teams in the top 10 slated to pick a pass rusher...they could unload JPP + get a high pick next year...I would rather get something now...then watch him leave next year and get absolutely nothing...
He has great abilities but often his play doesn't reflect those abilities. I say tag him and let him have his "monster season" and go from there because I don't think he has it in him.
If you are going to tag JPP again, you better have a signed contract with Eli Manning.
The rationale of if we cannot get it done, we can always tag him if he has a great season, does not work if there are two players who you must have back.
If JPP moves on, Giants will have $15-$20 million more annually to invest in other players. Not a a bad consolation prize.
I want JPP to have a monster year for Giants in 2015. That's the only thing he can do to have a positive impact on the Giants' present. Don't really care if he's "gone for no compensation" in 2016.
Pretty sure Pats will be fine w/o Regis. Ditto for Giants with or or without JPP.
and forget how difficult, tempermental, and rigid he could be as a personality, especially when his contract was a topic.
As for JPP, agree with John here. JPP has significant leverage, but he doesn't perform better than 2014 he's probably not getting the offer he wants from NYG.
He was very good at times last season, and very ordinary at others, until he finished strong against some poor teams.
That isn't true. Strahan held the Giants up for ransom including when he was already under contract wanting more $.
Iirc, we could have used his reworked contract to field some FAs..He kept saying all that mattered was team, that he would do what he could to make improvements happen..He did not..

The Giants apparently offered McCourty a $40M contract which he turned down. Afterwards, the fact that they weren't in serious contention with some of the other Free Agents was probably by choice based on what they felt was the player's true value to them. So JPP contract status was not likely an issue to the Giants
No player in this era would be tagged three times.

We are behind the wheel with the cap next year. We'll have a bunch of big decisions to make, but we're going to have a ton of money.
This draft is so insanely important. If we can land a cornerstone lineman and pedigree WR, we are in great shape to retain Manning and JPP.
And you get a OLB and a rotational DT..
