We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the entire draft and will need to be bumped occasionally to push them back to page 1 of the forum.
Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the
GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (ie: Indianapolis Colts won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) BlueManFu, BigBlueDownTheShore, odunde and uncledave will have priority to fill the vacancy. Otherwise, the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers that didn't get into the draft but were active in the draft discussion thread.
Once again, I strongly encourage all GMs to utilize the
BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of both available and taken prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible. I have saved the
GBN Big Board (3/27) for your reference as well.
Watching him with guys like Gruden he clearly knows the game and comes from a pro style scheme, but will he be the next Cam Newtwon in the sense that he could keep the distractions far enough away to take that next step or will he be the next Jeff George? I think Ben Roethlisberger is a good comp if he can get his act together
I think it has a minor impact on the decision but I think the fact that they have little at QB makes it an easier decision.
On an aside, if the god damned Browns had taken Derek Carr like I did last year they wouldn't still need a freaking QB!!! Also, Jeremy Hill and Allen Robinson would look nice in this offense.
Add to the fact that Lovie gets the chance at a franchise QB which he never had before with established weapons on offense. Staying in Florida will help sell tix as well.
Last but not least is his leadership and football intelligence. Despite all of the nonsense that team still followed his lead and did so with only one loss. His FBI's reportedly is off the chart. During baseball season he brought his football playbook on road trips. He knew that playbook inside and out and considering it's a pro style offense that's a huge leg up. His knowledge of the game has been compared to Manning and Luck. That's incredibly high praise.
Matt, thanks for doing this again.
Wow, this is first.
Also, what she said.
Wait, the Jets aren't on the clock yet. Oh, my bad
I don't think I'd have the balls to make that move if I were them. on the other hand, the draft is really the only cost-efficient way to add a talented qb. the free market will kill your cap along with other compensations. it's a tough business.
Down here in tampa , a lot of this going on . Some people love him and some people are outraged that he is even getting a shot in the NFL.
Absolutely. He's the best player in the draft, but QBs go very high, and tons of teams are angling to show interest in MM, imo to encourage teams to trade up with them for him...so why not Tennessee.
But there are a lot of people who think he will shit away that opportunity.
not sure how that makes them racist or idiots seeing that a number of players with Winston's checkered past ended up washing out due to their own lack of control.
Rape allegations don't really fall under the classification of being 'just a kid'.
ask yourself how you would feel if the Giants picked Winston ? Do you want his baggage ?
Playing in the NFL is a privilege . It should be treated as such. Too many teams sacrificing morals for wins......but that's just my opinion. Has nothing to do with race.
We all know you're picking Leonard Williams
(I'm gonna do this until Leonard Williams falls to #7...Ok, I won't)
By the way, have we decided not to post pics of our selections this year?
Fowler played all over. They asked a lot of him including dropping weight to play some LB... I think set in one spot of 4-3 DE and he will be a stud! Very excited about this pick but Cooper was right there for me. I would have loved any of Williams, Cooper, or Fowler. My nightmare would have been if they did like last year and bypassed all the QBs before the Raiders pick.
Should be difference maker for the defense eventually, although even though he's a high pick will take a little while to make a dramatic impact. He must get used to playing with some added weight, and become more disciplined versus the run. Once he's ready, could be a Von Miller type presence.
Considered a few other players, but added need + upside and Beasley came out on top
Jets still running a 3-4? Seems like a great scenario for them imo?
Not sold on either of the QBs (although either could be great)
I have a hard time not seeing Beasley sacking the QB in the NFL and Giants fans know better than anyone else what a good pass rush does.
Because we're talking about 2015 and beyond, not 2012. Marshall can still play, but how many top years does he really have left? He'll be 31 and is coming off the worst season of his career. I wouldn't bet on him being a #1 WR for the next 2 years, let alone 3-4.
Cooper is the 2nd best player in the draft at pick 6. 2 injure prone WRs that aren't so young shouldn't stop from drafting a stud WR. Cooper will help a bad QB and make him better. Not sure why the out rage.
Let's see if Atlanta still goes for pass rush, with Gregory, Dupree, and Ray still on the board...
Definitely need help on the defensive side and Shelton's potential is hard to overlook but I wish he produced more consistently over his career. His quickness impressive but his weight is a little concerning. Gurley I think a lot of people will regret passing up but RBs are just not viewed as top 10 values anymore. In the end end I went with the guy that I think is the safest pick in the draft.
The way the top 8 unfolded is essentially the worst case for the Giants imo...and we'll still get a very good player when all is said and done.
I doubt he'll go now in our draft, but I could see it him getting chosen if it fell this way and Schreff and the WR's were off the board
That being said, I could argue with Collins here. Would be happy for the Giants to get either of these two.
With no franchise QB in place or available at this pick, the Jets are going to build their team around the running game and the defense. They already have 2 quality WRs in the building, they would be better served to use their top picks to bolster their front 7 with a pass rusher or grab an OL to help their run game. Not to mention that Marrone was against the move to get Watkins last year with a similarly built team, not sure why he'd want to go WR here.
Scherff posted one of the best 3 cones for OL ever, yes he is powerful but he is a great fit for a zone scheme.
I personally do not like Ray or Dupree really. All of Ray's highlights he seems to get sacks mostly on speed, I don't really see any great moves from him. Dupree is harder because he did move around a lot but I sort of get athlete not football player when I look at him on film. Gregory I do like but I think he is more boom or bust where he weighed in and Scherff I see as a fairly safe bet to be a pro bowl player.
P.S. I've got a 6 player board ready for the Dolphins' pick at #14.
My BBI Mock draft OL is now:
Solder-Iupati-Frederick-Unger-Collins
Hire me Reese. Just do it.
This allows us to move Pugh inside if that works, or Collins plays LG for a year. Either way, a good addition to the team.
2. Tennessee (yatqb) - QB, Marcus Mariota, Oregon
3. Jacksonville (Kevin in CT) - DE/DT, Leonard Williams, USC
4. Oakland (Amtoft) - DE, Dante Fowler, Jr., Florida
5. Washington (Sir-Yes-Sir) - OLB, Vic Beasley, Clemson
6. NY Jets (Jon in NYC) - WR, Amari Cooper, Alabama
7. Chicago (Anakim) - WR, Kevin White, West Virginia
8. Atlanta (NoGainDayne) - OG/OT, Brandon Scherff, Iowa
9. NY Giants (Andy in Halifax) - OT, La'El Collins, LSU
10. St. Louis (BigBlueTT) - WR, DeVante Parker, Louisville
11. Minnesota (Jay in Saratoga) - On the clock
12. Cleveland (Lionhart28)
13. New Orleans (Saos1n)
14. Miami (Optimus-NY)
While defensive tackle certainly is not a need with Joseph and Floyd on the roster, the Vikings were able to get a potentially dominant player at the position and transform the middle of the line into a strength that should create opportunities on the edges for DEs and LBs.
getting a pick in the top ten should bring back uniquely talented players, game changers. Collins here would seem to me (maybe i'm shortsighted) a missed opportunity for a special player.
My ideal draft would have been Cooper in 1 then come back at OL at 40. White would have been given lots of thought too. Bith were taken. Ended up taking BPA which happened to fit a need.
Good pick for the Browns. I am sure that San Francisco was hoping that Ray would fall to 15 as they lost a lot of LB this offseason
Roger would never allow this to happen.
Let 'em. This guy reminds me of Erik Williams from the 90s Cowboys. Nasty SOB.
Tweet comparing Erik Williams (ROT) from the 90s Cowboys' OL to Flowers
Someone's goin' to Guard in the interim. Power Foosball.
Quote:
I like Flowers a lot but they do have Albert at LT and last years 1st rounder James at RT.
Someone's goin' to Guard in the interim. Power Foosball.
Makes sense their line has struggled for years and now it would be a major strength with Flowers playing guard for a year or two. He could then shift over to RT with James moving over to the left side when Albert begins to break down or if his play no longer warrants that big contract.
is is such a weak class that this is right? or are some of the bbi-drafters missing the boat on this kid?
It isn't that that I didn't want to lose out on a run. I give Waynes a slight edge over Collins, but I love Collins size/movement. Colossal potential.
With Houston needing help in the back 7 and the WRS and edge rushers all off the board, the two CBs were the only way to go there.
The other guy considered at 16 was Armstead, but had him ranked mu check lower.
Good job, MadPlaid!
The draft is moving right along.
CIP is up...
CIP is up...
Nice pick. Going into the draft he was one of my top 2 for the Ravens at 26 based on who realistically could be there. Also, with 2 1st Round selections the Browns can gamble on Gurley's health
Matt, thanks for all you are doing, including the email reminders. Fantastic and much appreciated!
Sorry for holding you all up.
Sorry for holding you all up.
Matt G will pick soon so if you have 2 people lined up you can list them here and we will just fire the top guy when ready or he should actually be making it soon so probably within half an hour you will be up
Happy with Erving, that is how we thought it would play out. He should be able to come in and compete for a starting spot immediately, likely replacing Hudson at OC.
Eddie Goldman is the answer and will be the disruptive force they need inside.
Grumble grumble!!
1 down. Surprised that Dupree fell this far
Just wanted to see greater production in college. If FMiC can pick soon I am ready
Panthers would have liked to get Dorian Green-Beckham, but the off-field red flags probably make their pick of Jaelen strong a little safer.
Plus, I think Strong will be the most intriguing pick of the first round. He has great upside and potential

get it in in a timely manner. Thanks!
oasts exciting tools and may ultimately wind up the best of the 2015 offensive tackle crop. Prototypical frame for the modern left tackle with broad shoulders, long arms (34 7/8"), a trim middle and thick thighs. Demonstrates fluidity, quickness and athleticism that are ideal for a next-level tackle. Uses his wide base to cut off edge rushers and adjust to multiple rushers coming his way, meeting them with stone hands and violently disposing of bodies. Utilizes long arms and a rapid, fluid kick-slide to stall and mirror opponents on the edge, and considering his lack of experience on the O-line, is surprisingly consistent with his technique - particularly his footwork. Shows good natural flexibility in his lower half to bend on contact, and as a run blocker can fire through to the second level where he has the ability to square up and target effectively in space. The athleticism and ability to pick things up quickly are both apparent.
Clemmings is rough around the edges but boasts undeniable upside. With a similar committment towards improvement as Vollmer has shown with the Patriots, Clemmings could emerge as a standout right tackle in the NFL or perhaps even flip to the all-important left tackle position after acclimating to the NFL's speed
It was between Brown and Odighizuwa for my pick. Owa might have been a slightly better scheme fit in the 3-4, but Brown was a lot higher ranked
BlueManFu, BigBlueDownTheShore, odunde and uncledave will have priority.
That's all I'll say!
Nice pair of bookends for Mariota in Fisher and Lewan
I find it interesting that the other guys I was looking at for Green Bay went one two after my selection.
Quote:
Do they go interior DL with Jordan Phillips, RT with Jake Fisher, OG with Cann, or outside rush LB with either Harold or Thompson?
Nice pair of bookends for Mariota in Fisher and Lewan
Thanks, Mike. I felt that he could take over at RT immediately, and that's one area of weakness on their team.
But there were a bunch of guys who stood out as good values at 33.
That being said we are very happy to take Phillips. Big run defender with some quickness. We picture Dan Williams and him closing lanes on run downs. We had a few other players we really like, but felt that Phillips was to go to pass up. With Fowler and Phillips the Raiders front 7 is a major focus on getting fixed. With adding Khalil Mack, Sio Moore, Curtis Loften, Dan Williams, Dante Fowler, and now Phillips we are a few player from putting together a strong Def.
On second thought I don't mind autodrafting for Jacksonville! :)
I don't think Jax is that far off. Their defensive line is solid with good depth. They have a few good players on their offensive line in Joekel, Beadles, Linder and they signed Parnell. They could use help at center, RB, and CB but if Bortles progresses they may surprise and be an 8-8 team this year.
PLan A was Cooper then Tomlinson
Plan B was Scherff/Collins/Flowers/Peat then Agholor unless Odi fell.
On to plan C!
Great pickup Kevin. I think he's got a lot of Reggie Wayne in him. Very smooth, runs sharp routes and can make plays deep.
Maybe he can punish New Orleans for picking early
I'm up... Strange situation... Oh well... Still a ton of talent on the board...
MadPlaid got me at pick 30... Adding Gregory and Armstead would've gone a long way to aiding in the transition to a 3-4 for N.O.
KInda makes my pick a bit more interesting... although historically my second round pick has been a disaster outside of Sean Lee, Max Unger and maybe David Amerson (good rookie year... bad second year...) so we'll see how I mess this one up.
Hopefully SYS picks soon :)
Two of them I hadn't given much thought because I assumed they were mid to late 1st round picks.
I think I have it down to 2 guys... give me a few mins to flip a coin...
Edge: Preston Smith(DE), Danielle Hunter, Nate Orchard, Shaq Thompson (LB), Hau'oli Kikaha
TE: Maxx Williams
ILB: Benardrick McKinney, Stephone Anthony
DB: Quinten Rollins, Byron Jones, Damarious Randall, P.J. Williams (DUI and all)
WR: Devin Smith, Breshad Perriman, Sammie Coates
DT: Michael Bennett
etc, etc.
For all of Andy's excitement about his speed, Shaq Thompson is fast for a linebacker, not a safety.
I don't understand the Kam Chancellor comparison. Chancellor is three inches taller and a concussive hitter who excelled at both safety positions at V-Tech after playing QB and CB. Thompson has barely played safety at all; his coverage skills are largely unknown and he's not even regarded as much a hitter. They are both versatile; on paper, that seems to be the extent of the similarity. And versatility didn't keep Chancellor from dropping to the fifth round.
Then again, I've only watched a few Huskies games during Thompson's career, so maybe I'm missing something.
I see this as a guy Spags could use in different ways - but his position in the program will be OLB and I think whichever team that really drafts him will use him as such. Primarily an OLB with occasional use as a "Big DB"
Kendricks is nfl ready, won the Butkus award last year, and is brothers with Mychael Kendricks who has already done great work with the eagles.
Skins are in a division now with the Eagles (and to a lesser extent Giants) who spread teams out and force defenders to be versatile. With that in mind, Kendricks seemed the best suited to play multiple roles (unlike McKinney who seems more of a hulk-smash prospect) and stands out at a position of scarcity in this draft.
I agree with this. In the Coughlin/Reese era they just haven't valued sideline to sideline LB's all that heavily in the draft (kind of like TEs). Think the last one they picked was probably Geris Wilkenson, though I guess they also signed Boley and he played a pretty big role for a few years. Either way, if they go LB I see a Perryman type, who could possibly be a long term MLB or an edge rusher who presents an amazing value like Beasley may at 9. There's a chance Thompson is one of those guys at #40, but I'd guess they are more likely to go with 1 of the guys you mentioned who is a more obvious projection at a position we know they value (DB and DE primarily).
They need a banger in the middle, too - IF Beason is healthy.. big if. I also like Perryman out of the U. But don't think they could go LB 2nd and 3rd - if Perryman lasts to #74.
I would have taken P. Smith or D. Hunter.
JPP is playing on the franchise tag. He has had some consistency and health concerns. Moore is the only real 'upside' talent at DE. We have some solid rotational guys in Ayers/Selvie/Wynn.
That was my mistake... He wouldn't have been there anyways... Obviously...
Nice value with Maxx.. Well done
M Loomis himself has stated that trading Jimmy Graham was a move intended to fix the defense...
I've tried to do that early on with the selections of Gregory to supply the edge rusher they so desperately need, as well as Peters at CB, who can be groomed behind B Browner and K Lewis...
Playmakers are need after the trading of Graham... B Cooks is a nice piece to build upon, but a long, burner type is needed... Colston is getting up there in age and his production tailed off heavily recently...
Perriman has the tools to be a game changer... Can Brees help him get there? We will see...
Maybe I just got gun shy due to those past results but I didn't think Smith was any better than those former prospects. They all played well in college but lacked something to make it as starters in the pros - probably athletic ability/explosiveness - and I wanted to get away from that.
Flowers in Round #1, and Dorsett in Round #2.
Just kind of cruising through this and the the MockDraft thread, you guys are excellent!!! A tip of the hat, glass, and mouse to you students of the draft game for your knowledge, craft, savvy, and decorum.

I don't think he was the only player to look at, but I do feel he was the best 4-3 DE left in the draft. Really after Smith the talent just drops off to me. So to me if u wanted a DE end the draft that was the last one to take IMO that looks like he could be a starter. Shaq has made so many plays it's crazy. The ball just finds him in an uncanny way. He is so good at everything he does they put him at RB this last year and he was a super star. 1st Pac12 at LB and 1st team Pac12 ST player. Tons of talent that would play somewhere on this team. Don't think we would take him but can't argue that the kid is an excellent player
^^^^ This. Don't see the role for Shaq on the team after nabbing Casillas and Thomas... Devin Smith, or one of the available DEs, or McKinney seem like the better fit here.
Ajayi is the next Marshawn Lynch / Steven Jackson type and will be a force in the NFL.
Matt, thanks for letting me jump in.
Lots of active posters coming up, could see a lot of picks today.
I like how this draft is moving and shaping up. Always very interesting to watch our GM's come up with whom they think is best from their observations and opinions.
Mini run on QBs, exciting.
Really like him as an OLB, particularly as Clowney insurance.
Like Tevin Coleman, Byron Jones was also on my short list. When today started there were 5 people on the highest row on my board and Coleman/Jones were the first selections from that 5 so fortunately at least one will be available when I pick
I probably would have gone OL there, but I think at this point, Johnson is a better value pick at a position of need.
If you had taken Smith and the intervening picks remained the same Byron Jones would have been my pick!
Really like his pick... while he is a good FS I really think he was better at CB and think he absolutely can play and excel there. If not he will easily fall back into a good FS making him one if the more safer CB picks to take.
Anthony was one of three who are at the top of my list. I was likely going to take him though because I see the talent pool at ILB dropping off big time after him.
No way Houston take Smith. Not only is this a bad fit, but with Watt, Clowney, and Houston all playing the roll u want Smith to take u just took a back up player with a premium pick... that doesn't even fit this system. This is like the people complaining they don't want the Giants to draft Gregory because he isn't a good fit well in reverse Smith is not a 3-4 DE or a 3-4 OLB
Just my opinion. Even when Smith gets drafted by a 4-3 defense and does well you won't he able to come back and be like hey I drafted him because he won't be productive on that team.
If Gurley gets into the low 20's in the real draft I have a feeling Jerry Jones would trade up to draft him.
Just my opinion.
Shaq has too much of a bust factor to me.
Shaq has too much of a bust factor to me.
Shaq is too much of a bust factor but you want Coates whose hands are crap and Hunter who did zip in college?
There are a few left with some talent. But I think they're a clear tier below.
Done well with offensive line picks if I'm not mistaken too.

Settle down, Nancy.
Outside of Watt, an injured Clowney and Brian Cushing - who never sees the field - this defense needs talent. They play a hybrid 3-4 and most of the prospects drafted outside of the top 10 are going to start off as backups. A good football player is a good football player and Smith is a good run stopper with a developing pass rush arsenal. Houston can slowly integrate him into the defense as his recognition skills evolve.
btw - Frederick looks like the better player, I'm calling that debate. Schwenke was terrible before hurting his knee this year and Frederick is a stud.
Was debating who to select between Quinten Rollins and Williams, but Go Terps auto pick settled that one. If it came down to it, I think I was leaning towards Rollins because I like his long term potential better.
For sure. There is one player that sticks out like a sore thumb to me, but there are others who would in theory be considered by some a 2nd Rounder due to placement in my Top 64, but in a better draft are not players I would have that high
btw - Frederick looks like the better player, I'm calling that debate. Schwenke was terrible before hurting his knee this year and Frederick is a stud.
Thanks Andy. That was a first round KO by yours truly.
I had 5 blue chip players and 16 players with 1st round grades, meaning that if I'm picking in the 1st I better be getting one of these players. I had over 30 players with 2nd round grades. This draft feels like a deeper draft for day 2 talent, but not as heavy at the top as past drafts.

Favorite answer of someone who drafts a player out of position... oh they play a hybrid so it's cool I take a player that doesn't fit at all. What about Whitney Mercilus? He plays the same position at Clowney and now Smith which means you added a player to play the same position. A defense that needs talent thank goodness u added a 3rd string back up in the second round ... that by the way doesn't fit their Defense at all. So princess I am sorry to hurt ur feelings that u need to try and tell me to settle down. If u can't handle someone criticizing u then don't make such a dumb pick.
You're welcome
Amtoft is just angry that I stole Marvin Jones from him

Yeah I will give Jon all the credit there. Frederick looked like a stiff to me and seemed like the joke of the first round when picked. He has been very good. Schwenke tho is still young and was starting after being hurt his first year. I still think he can and will be a very good player.

keep comments civil please. Argue all you want but let's not get into BS. Thanks.

Steal of the draft!
I replied accordingly. I am sorry he didn't like that I criticized his pick. What fun is the draft if we all just sit around going great pick and not talk about the reaches and bad picks. I am very chill but thank you for worrying about my level of ummm upsetness (sure not a word but I like it)
Nate Orchard...
Great pick. Best pure OG in this draft IMO. He was on my short list for my 2nd round pick and was by far my top player left.
Ahhhh Him's sensitive about his pick. Why participate in the mock draft "discussion" thread if you can't handle people talking bad about your pick. Man up and dispute what I say if you want or ignore it I don't care. However calling me Nancy and whining about me being so mean to not agree with your assessment doesn't bother me. I find discussing this interesting and if you actually had a thought I would listen, but you don't. You just want to whine and that is fine, but I am not handing out free hugs today so I can't help with that.
Here is the thing. How is saying I think Smith is a bad fit and a waste of a second round pick for Houston ball busting. They could have gone so many ways. This thread is a discussion thread and all I did was discuss the pick. I don't think I have been out of line yet.
I don't understand either. He was dominate as an OG and was by far the best in one on ones at the SR bowl. He is a player I would very much like to have if the Giants don't go OL in round 1. I would be happy with a second round selection of him and think he would be very good for us. To get him at the end of the 2nd is great value and a very good fit into NE's needs. Nothing better when value and talent match up
No need for sorry... you still had plenty of time.
Amtoft, it was between those two for me, and in a sense it was a flip a coin choice. I just really love Orchard's initial burst.

sold on Orchard... If I was going to gamble on a DE/OLB like that I would go Hauoli Kikaha. To me he was much more dominate and comes with a lot of the same questions.

I meant more for the Giants. I don't know about Orchard or Kikaha being able to play 4-3 DE, but that I thought Kikaha has the higher upside as a pass rushing specialist to me. In a 3-4 Def I would prefer Kikaha just because he has looked a little better in cover, but both are more up the field type. Orchard is very quick off the snap and an extremely high hustle player. I think he doesn't maintain that level of get off quickness through the play though. It will be a transition to move to OLB, but I think his quickness, ability to read the run, and hustle will let him be a good player. Not saying he was a bad pick at all, just for our Def the fit wasn't great for what I like in my DE's... although first step is huge and he is very quick.

"What would Amtoft do?"

I've already stated my reasoning for picking Smith several times. He was both BPA and fills a position HOU needs due to questions over Clowney. May not be an immediate need, but that's why you take the best player, imho.
You've offered nothing, apart from some specious junk about Smith not being a fit. Based on what exactly? What are your credentials, apart from being an insufferable prick through this entire process?
He has played pretty much every game the last 2 years.... He put up 13 sacks as a DE in 2013 in 13 games and 19 sacks as a BUCK LB last year in 14 games. I understand he had 2 ACL's early, but has been fairly healthy the last 2 years. When watching the two Kikaha is the much more dominant player IMO. Not a good fit for the Giants unless we just want him as a pass rusher

So you response again was the same thing... Best player and may fill a need if Clowney doesn't make it even though Whitney Mercilus already has that roll. You want to have a conversation about why he isn't a good fit? He isn't strong enough or big enough to play inside at 3-4 DE and isn't nearly quick or fast enough to play 3-4 OLB. Can you even imagine him dropping in cover? He is a great fit as a 4-3 DE. If you were looking for a 3-4 OLB Kikaha would fit that much better, but again they don't need that. To me you don't waste a premium pick on a player that doesn't fit your system and will be 3rd string.
So me responding that the pick isn't good makes you get all butt hurt. I am so sorry I responded and made comments on a player you picked. I realize that only good comments should go towards you or no one should respond at all so you don't cry. My mistake to discuss a pick you made in a fake mock draft discussion thread.
great pick... he is the best FS in the draft IMO and really behind Collins as the second best safety. I expect him to go mid to late 2nd or early third at worst. He was a player I was really looking at.
The Raiders have 3 injury prone RBs that haven't fully shown they can handle being a full time RB. Langford I think gives them a viable option to compete for early playing time.

an OL with one of my 2nd or 3rd round picks. I almost picked Tre Jackson in the 2nd, but couldn't pass up on Phillips. In the 3rd I was targeting Jackson as he fell and a player I thought would make it to me in Donovan Smith. I was very disappointed he went a few picks before mine. I couldn't justify reaching for my next top OL who I am very high on to bypass Langford. To me Langford is the most under rated RB in this draft. He runs with good power and plenty of speed. He also does what a lot of RBs in this draft don't and that is protect and catch the ball nicely.

No not at all... I clearly wrote that I think he will compete for early playing time. The Raiders top 3 RBs right now are Latavius Murray who is very unproven and always injured, Roy Helu who is a 3rd down back who is also always injured, and Trent Richardson who has been a complete bust since his first year in the league. I think that if TR can lose weight and put in a ton of work he can still be a full time player, but Helu is purely a 3rd down back and I am not expecting Murray to ever be able to handle a full load. Langford is much more durable and does everything well. I think he will be right there for starting, GL carries, and 3rd down back. He has a ton of talent and exactly what the Raiders need.
I wrote that incase you were serious and wanted a response. If you were just trying to make a joke or to rescue MO then you can disregard it.
Thanks, Amtoft. The benefit of having a team struggle year in and year out and having a early pick in each round certainly helps! I really like Drummond a lot, I did consider Randall from ASU but the tapes and numbers don't lie Drummond has the potential to be a great player sooner than later.
Quote:
Jacksonville's draft. Leonard Williams is the best player in the draft. Agholor is highly under rated and boarder line 1st rounder IMO. They then get the best FS in the draft. Nice job there. I would have loved this to be the Raiders draft honestly.

I completely agree about Drummond... I am praying he makes it to the Giants 3rd round pick. I am not high on Randall... kid isn't a very good tackler and I don't know if he can be a full time FS. I think he would be better served as a nickle safety. Same with Holloman also. They both fit into that roll for me and I wouldn't touch either with a 1-3 round draft pick.
Nice looks like 3 picks will come in right in a row. My pick was made much easier with Tre Jackson, Donovan Smith, and Kurtis Drummond coming off the board right before my pick. This round is where things get interesting... people have players rated all over the place from here on out.
the team has several holes, and one of my primary concerns was initially the defensive backfield. I looked at several safeties and corners and just didn't see a player I ranked as highly as Johnson. (the addition of Goldson and Culliver also ease my mind a little...)
Johnson is a physical freak, rating above average in nearly every tested measurable for running backs. Runs a bit upright, but we've all seen guys with that trait do well in the league if they have the goods, and I believe Johnson does.
From a small school, but still stands as one of the most polished pass-catchers in the draft class. Has been compared in style to Matt Forte.
The skins have Morris, but we know the shelf life on running backs is brief, and Alfred may not fit the system Gruden is trying to put in place quite as well as he did under Shanhan in pistol, where most of Morris' success was realized.
Would have loved to take him in round 4, but doubted he would be there.
Go Sens!
I am not a huge fan of his, but that is mainly because he holds the ball to long. There is a reason UCLA gave up so many sacks. Yes the OL is not great, but some of that is Hundley's fault. Athletically he is very good and the potential is there to be really good. I like him better than the other QBs in this class after the top 2 and this is a steal to get him in the 3rd.
Weird draft.
Weird draft.
Yep, although if I was the Giants and my first two picks went as you have it I have two guys I would be deciding between at this point and it really is a coin flip as both could potentially help the Giants

like, say, as much as I loved seeing Demarco Murray or Travis Frederick available in 3 during past drafts, but there are a LOT of guys still around with basically the same grade. Tons of options - probably too many for my pea brain!

And neither were selected by NoGainDayne. All I can say with you now on the clock is that it sucks to be you as I think half of BBI would be thrilled I took the guy I did over the other option and the other half would have wanted me to go with the second guy
I view the two picks as hedges of each other, extremely productive pass rusher that might not have the physical talents for the NFL and physical specimen that might not be able to grasp the technique to be an effective pass rusher.
I saw at least one with a problem with the Hunter pick but I am very high on his potential. He led all SEC defensive linemen in "stuffs" (tackles for no gain or loss of yards) with 17 last year. He knows how to shed blockers against premium talent and has speed to close, I think with NFL coaching he can be an effective pass rusher, let's not forget that he only played 10 games in 2013 as a starter.
Jamora at the very least I see as a situational pass rusher this year, which the Falcons need desperately.
Kikaha last name was Jamora until he changed it.
But I'm going to gamble on upside.
If nothing else, another red zone target.
If nothing else, another red zone target.
See what happens when you drink to much! Actually I don't know what to make of Funchess... He isn't fast enough for WR and isn't big enough for TE, but he can play. He actually reminds me of Delanie Walker. I think a team will have to find a way to use him.

Maybe. But you can only play one position at a time. I still think tweener is a better term for Funchess and Thompson - their height/weight put them at a slight disadvantage in whichever position you choose for them.
Collins is built to play guard or tackle, but imo he looks better suited to play guard. Versatility might be a positive on the o-line, but I don't usually need my top ten pick to be able to play multiple spots - he should be a master of one.
Again, not trying to blast anyone, just my opinion...

Exactly. Players are only reaches and/or picked out of position when other people make a pick.
When the Raiders make a pick (like a surplus RB), we've merely been granted a glimpse into the genius that is Amtoft. Only on his planet is Smith a lesser athlete - or "slower" than Kihaha, desspite having a faster forty, slicker 3-cone, and better broad jump (by a wide margin).
Nearly every scouting report on Smith lauds his strength at the POA. Some knock him for a lack of so-called quick twitch, suggesting he's ill suited as a 4-3 DE. But I guess thats part of the fun, projecting guys. Except when some tough guy appoints himself an expert, thanks to experience running a fictitious war room. Despite being wrong, like all the time. About everything.
Congrats, you've turned yourself into the Headhunter of football threads. But I guess that's just the butt hurt talking...

Hahaha ... you are still going on this. He was making a joke with that comment, but way to pay attention. I am not butt hurt at all. I don't get all bitter when someone makes a comment about my pick. Look at all the slack Andy is taking for his picks... does he start crying like you? No of course not. He takes the comments in strides and says why he picked them.
As for you comments about speed and strength at the POA... Smith doesn't play OLB and doesn't drop into coverage. Kikaha, despite your defining point of 40 times, has played the BUCK/OLB spot. He has dropped into coverage and is much better at that. He isn't nearly as strong at the POA. That is why he isn't a 4-3 DE. That is why I didn't draft him because the fit for a 4-3 DE isn't good. I understand now you don't understand fit. Are you saying Smith is faster in the 40 so he is better at cover so he is a OLB, but he is also strong at the POA so he is a 3-4 DE. Sadly he is neither because he is a 4-3 DE, but think what you want. All I did was state my opinion on your pick and you cried like a bitch. You continue to cry like a bitch. Sorry I didn't like your pick and apparently you do care about my opinion or you wouldn't keep trying to justify the crappy pick. Enjoy the rest of the draft as I will just ignore you.
I didn't only mention forty time. Smith is more fluid and explosive in every direction; and, he's heavier and stronger.
Is dropping back into coverage a strong suit? No, I don't imagine it is. I doubt very many college edge rushers are exceptionally adept at dropping into coverage. Doesn't mean they don't develop the skill or guys haven't ever transitioned from college end to OLB before.
I don't mind discussing the pick. But if you're going to be disingenuous, I'm through.
my guy is still out there, which really surprises me.
Jlukes hated my Demarco Murray pick in 3 a few years ago, so I'm calling this a win!
Paul Dawson, LB, TCU
Mario Edwards, DE, FSU
Tyler Lockett, WR, KSU
Kwon Alexander, LB, LSU
He does and posts results from all previous years prior to the start of the current years draft
THR: "In spite of the fact that Rashad is slight of build, his excellent lateral agility and vision is a gift and makes it easy for him not to take the big hits other players take on crossing patterns and third down move the chains plays. This amazingly quick lateral agility is also the reason that I would feel comfortable selecting Rashad early in this draft. The teams that don’t recognize Rashad’s natural skills and talent not to take the big hit will pass on drafting Rashad early and just might be passing on a potential Pro Bowl receiver."
CBS: "Balanced athlete with natural body control and gliding speed. Very good foot quickness at the line of scrimmage and in his breaks to release and create separation. Sharp plant foot to quickly change directions in his routes and show the quarterback his numbers. Subtle patience, footwork and burst to set up his moves in single coverage. Very good feel in his routes to catch defenders off-guard. Savvy moves before and after the catch, controlling his momentum well. "
Nice pick
has to be the pick
Great player on the field, but combine did not match the production and he is a little undersized
Right on the nose, Mike.
Tell me about it. The guy who has been #1 on my board after Nate Orchard was selected is still there. I am going to be in a tough position if he is on the board when it gets to my pick for the Ravens, but with 3 picks each in Round 4 and Round 5 I may just do it
I had a hard time choosing between a few guys, and would have been happy with any of them. But I think this kid has a big upside and he's a little undervalued because of his little incident. I'm curious to see if yours is one of the ones I considered.
I was looking to hit RB this draft and was hoping Gurley fell to me in RD 1 but didnt, I passed on Gordon. Didnt like the value of RB in rd 2 but will gladly take TJ Yeldon here.
2 players I am very high on and I was considering with the Raiders pick Rashad Greene and Gabe Wright who just went. Really like both those guys a lot.
Shaw has issues but he isn't Darby

That is how I remember it. He was a big part of how the situation was setup while also witnessing and protecting a scum. If he was protected by the school and was just some Joe Smoe he would be in prison. I hated Jeremy Hill last year also. Now doesn't mean he isn't talented.
If he doesn't pick in the next half hour or so my pick will be made tomorrow
Today is going to be a great day!
Today is going to be a great day!
Damn it he was the last guy on my short list so need to regroup
You are talking about a late 3rd Round pick here. Unless it is a player who will never get playing time and won't help on Special Teams you are at the point that you take the risk. The exception is QB where if you do not have a good back-up and a mid round QB is clearly BPA you take him even if he won't play
Lockett reminds me of Antonio Brown. He will make an impact immediately on punt and kick returns, and will push to start in the slot on day one for Denver.
His combination of football knowledge, route running, and athleticism is a perfect match for a QB like Peyton Manning.
Haha I honestly thought CiP was going to pick him. Also didn't think he'd get past Carolina, Baltimore or Dallas. Dallas especially because they just came out and said they needed someone who was a gamebreaker on kicks
Good pick, Terps.
Besides having the best Key&Peele name in the draft, hes probably the closest guy physically to Kam Chancellor in this draft, and has enormous traits that he brings to the position.
Small school guy, and appears a little stiff in coverage, he is certainly a plus "in the box" safety, and could be a special player if he can adapt to the faster pro game
Long arms, big hands and plays with power. Model citizen off the field too.
Good value here. Had I not selected a 5T earlier he would have merited consideration for my pick at 90
After you make it please can someone put me in for WR Justin Hardy of East Carolina or Jamison Crowder of Duke. Hardy is first preference. Thanks. I'm about to be out for a couple of hours.
I see. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Thank you

Can't wait to see who you go with right now for Pick #101
Under!
FYI I don't ever melt down. I am always cool, but people get angered by my choice of return words. I don't get all bitter about what someone says on a message board. That being said why would I be upset that I made a mistake. Rules are rules and I missed my pick. I wouldn't melt down I would feel bad because A) people had to wait and B) auto picks suck
I actually really like Montgomery... Very talented think bodied WR. Has some injury concerns and isn't great in straight line speed, but has very quick feet. He was everything for Standford when healthy. I also liked Alex Carter. It isn't their fault they were stuck a horrible school like Stanford because they couldn't get into Cal.
Thank you sir.

Redskins through 4 rounds:
Vic Beasley, Clemson OLB
Eric Kendricks, USC ILB
David Johnson, Northern Iowa RB
Adrian Amos, Penn St S
We are breezing through!
Andy's pick will be interesting. He has painted himself into a corner at FS. Does he reach here (Holliman/Eskridge), or hope the stars align for him in a later round?
Golden I am not sure in a 4-3 scheme. Za'darius Smith is a nice value here for the Giants
I will virtually always go BPA but I value certain positions over others because I feel they are more important and that is reflected in my picks.
I also give small consideration to roster opportunity - who will have an opportunity to see the field and contribute. Who will provide the most value. That may sound a lot like need - but I still maintain I will not pick a player because I have a hole on the roster unless that player figures the be the player that adds the most value to the team.
The player I pick will be the guy I feel will have contributed the most to the team over the next 8 years.
Especially later rounds, I basically watch a player and ask "can that guy contribute in the NFL"
If he makes it a few more picks I end up with both.
Atlanta has needs everywhere, and McCarthy would be a defensible pick, with Soliai well on the wrong side of 30. I don't think many Boards have McCarthy rated as high as Colin does, though. If I were Atlanta, I'd look seriously at RB or WR here.
Maybe all my instincts will take over though and I'll go with the tweener!
Nelson also shined at the senior bowl.
And can clean up in those Giants vs teachers basketball games...
lol, CIP. Gotcha covered!
"Fourth year senior and two year starter. Led the SEC in tackles in 2013. Wilson is a superb athlete for the position, showing elite lateral range and more than enough short area pop. He is a smart run defender that loves to chase down the action. His athleticism and ability to finish off a play would be a great fit for the WILL position in 4-3 schemes. He hasn’t been a big presence against the pass, as he doesn’t process information as quickly, however he is still a true three down linebacker with a lot of upside. He may need some times to enhance his lower body strength, but Willson has a lot of tools that teams look for in starting linebackers."

Merci!
This is when the pace usually starts slowing down. Was hoping to get my Round 5 picks in before I go out of town from the 17th-19th although I will have my cell phone to make picks
Last year, we only had two auto-selections before RD5
I'm heading out soon, but someone please post the pick at 5pm as St. Louis (BigBlueTT) is waiting to make their pick... I will post my pick for Cincinnati shortly thereafter...
For the record I would have gone Javorious Allen.
You're welcome!
Nice pick. Heuerman is good value there.
Nice pick. Heuerman is good value there.
Each of my picks this round were followed by another player at the same position so I figured I annoyed someone. Dennis Pitta is injured a lot and has a high salary so I figured that with the Ravens cap woes taking Heuerman could make it easier to part ways with Pitta. Had EA not showed up I was originally planning Javouris Allen with this pick (I figured Arizona and Carolina would pass having already taken a RB so no rush at 122 when I could get at 125). Now don't you get revenge by taking the guy I am looking at with my compensatory pick to end the round
You pick ahead of jlukes this round. Take his guy instead
Congrats on being the first person this year to select someone from the "Other Available Prospects" list! One pick earlier and you could have had Diggs
Thanks for taking Kroft. After landing the TE that I did I doubt I will take another this draft
Anyway, Kroft is very good value here at the end of the 4th round. The Pack were looking to add to this position. They addressed it last year, but could use more talent. Kroft is a good receiver, and will help give Aaron Rogers another weapon.
True, but all reports point to a positive, well liked kid by coaches and teammates and that he loves football.
Harvin was so hated he was banned from high school sports by the state of Virginia before graduating. That's how far back his history goes.
Plus the ability is underrated. Alford (11) had more receiving TDs than White (10) this past year not including two more from KOR's and has bigger hands despite giving up about 7 inches in height.
There is no clock on weekends so technically until 11 AM Monday
I'm hoping so, I have multiple picks in the 6th round.

2. Ali Marpet, OL, Hobart
3. Trey Flowers, DE, Arkansas
4. Ibraheim Campbell, S, Northwestern
4. Mario Alford, WR, WVU

I thought Tull would fall to me. I was wrong. I have an alternate when I get home assuming Matt doesn't take him
sjnyfan, nice work on your draft. Even though you didn't have a 1st round pick, working with Seattle has been good with all their picks in the 4th round.
Round 2 - Devin Smith/WR/Ohio State
Round 3 - D'Joun Smith/CB/Florida Atlantic
Round 4 - Reese Dismukes/OL/Auburn
Round 4 - Jeff Heuerman/TE/Ohio State
Round 4 - Markus Golden/OLB/Missouri
3 more picks in Round 5 and then 1 in Round 6. Although Brown is less ideal as a 5T than as a DT in 4-3 too much value there. Overall I like combination of value and addressing needs

This year it seems like there are a number of guys who may be solid complementary guys or decent starters, but no top end guy. That is why you saw 2 in the Top 100, but a number coming off the board in Round 4 (and I anticipate Koyack and possibly Bell in Round 5 with Pruitt and O'Leary in Round 5 or 6)
jlukes should be ready too - he'll be OTC in 1/2 hour or less.
The next available player on the big board is Josh Harper, WR, Fresno State. It is not unheard of that a team will take 2 WR's in a draft. He makes sense as Chicago's pick. IMO
So yes, Harper would be the pick...
Too bad about Anak. I wouldn't have thought he'd miss his pick.
I do as he was the top guy on my list for the next Ravens pick :)
No way! He's free to make an ass of himself any time. I don't believe in making restrictions, especially if they may impede my amusement.
You talkin' to me?
Quote:
He's embarrassing himself.

Anak, RiffRaff is my brother. In real life.
The threat of ending up with Harper is working better than call out threads! It would be something if he ends up having a better career than Allen and Sample (the two players taken when the autopick was rescinded)

Oh, no shit? Cool. Never knew that. First and only BBI sibling posters?
I have my own rankings :)

Simos don't count
schnitzie is our sister, so we almost have the entire MadPlaid family on BBI. Sorry fellas.
B. Jones, Randall, Rollins, D. Smith, Prewitt, Rowe, Harris, Holliman, Tartt, Drummond, Amos, Sample, Geathers, Eskridge. I'd bet one of those guys hears the Giants call their name in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th round.
Found it!
Since the Broncos lost Knighton in free agency, I went with the NT.
CB/S - J. Glenn
DE - Chickillo
TE - Koyack
I'd probably go with Glenn, but would be happy with any of the 4 in the 5th.
My draft goals:
Get OL starter. Collins, check.
Get guys to help on 3rd down and/or red zone situations. Thompson & Funchess, check.
Get someone that can rush the passer. Hardison, check.
Get corner, hopefully can play slot. Nelson, check.
Get safety, with strong coverage skills. INCOMPLETE.
I'm am pleased thus far. Not a home run, but my drafts never are.
MadPlaid don't lie. You were that dull eyed kid in front on the right.
And as far as embarrassing myself......uh yeah....I'm good at that and it does amuse MadPlaid, so I phuqued.
Really like Hardison though, very intriguing player, great value here.
Thanks!
Oh well (pig fucker). I've got the next two picks for the Fish. Gimmee a few and I'll make 'em.
Thanks!
done... not sure why that keeps happening on the thread
#11 DT Danny Shelton, Washington
Pro Comparison: Haloti Hgata
This pick was case of BPA at a position of strength on this roster that I couldn't pass up because of how much higher I had him than the next guy. I had Leonard Williams as the top overall prospect in this draft and the next tier behind him consisted of Cooper, Fowler, Scherff and Shelton whom I ranked in that order based on Minnesota's needs and roster opportunities. I had the drop off to the next tier great enough to not force a need pick there.
This pick gives the Vikings dominant mismatch potential on the interior DL that should create advantageous match ups for the ends and linebackers. It also gives Minnesota the flexibility later on to walk away from the Joseph contract in the final year of flip Floyd in a trade depending on which pair from these 3 emerges as the most effective.
#45 LB Denzel Perryman, Miami
Pro Comparison: D'Qwell Jackson (tempted to write Ray Lewis, but not on that level)
Miami should have been better than they were with these players. The coaching down there is just a total mess. Perryman is a thumper at MIKE backer and when you look at his highlights he delivers the kinds of punishing hits that haunt my nightmares from Super Bowl XXXV. I expected Perryman to go in the late 1st round and was thrilled to see him here at #45.
#76 S Derron Smith, Fresno St
Pro Comparison: Antrel Rolle
I had Smith as the #2 safety in this draft and the best pure coverage safety. Paired with Harrison Smith, this would have the potential to give Minnesota one of the better safety tandems in the league and cover up some of the short comings of their corners.
#110 G Jarvis Harrison, Texas A&M
Pro Comparison: Shawn Andrews
A large athlete with surprising agility, Harrison be able to adjust quickly to pass blocking at the NFL level. He will be a bigger question mark in the ground game, but his size and strength suggest that he can get better if coached up on technique. Questions about his conditioning and commitment to football are probably the only thing preventing him from being a 2nd round pick and one of the 1st pure guards off the board. I had Harrison as the next prospect on my draft board after Derron Smith and would have taken him in the 3rd had Smith gone before I picked. Thrilled to catch him in the 4th.
#137 CB Charles Gaines, Louisville
Pro Comparison: Corey Webster
This was another case where the player I had next on my board form one round was still available when I picked next. Gaines is a former receiver who has a knack for anticipating routes and breaking on throws. He has good instincts and above average athletic ability. Thrilled to cap off my draft with Gaines in the 5th.
Additional Notes
Two positions I really wanted to hit in this draft but didn't manage to were WR and DE. This wasn't a great draft for DE, but I would have taken Chickillo from Miami with my last pick had Gaines not been available. As for WR, despite the many great options in this class, Minnesota's picks just didn't seem to line up with a WR at the top of the board.
Karlos Williams (RB) at #150 - While Miami has good depth at RB, this guy was to good to pass up. Sure, he has some off field baggage, but he's well worth the risk. He's a STs demon and a converted Safety. He's only starting to tap into his potential as a RB. I'm really intrigued by this kid and what he can do going forward if placed in the right situation.
San Diego (armstead98) is on the clock...
Concern is obviously his level of competition but give his athletic ability the upside is there. At the very least he should be a strong special teams contributor while learning the skills to be an edge rusher.
Did not realize it was Harper he replaced. Anyway I have my pick queued up so I can fire as soon as I can get online after the pick before me goes
Tony Washington would give you an Oregon player! I don't think Chip would go an entire draft without drafting one
Very happy he was available after James, Kroft & Hauermann went in the 120's. Buffalo needs a Tight End and with only a few picks in this draft, need is a much higher priority than I typically make it.
Screw that noise. MyCole is the best.
I had Pruitt ahead anyway, so I think we both got the guy we wanted. I love it when a plan comes together...
I don't expect Saxton to come in and start or even play much the first year, but Buffalo needs more depth at the position desperately, especially with all the multiple TE sets teams use now. So I view it as a need going into the draft.
Do you think we should replace him as a GM for the remainder of this mock draft? Frankly, I don't think he's been a very good participant. Especially after he got into it with Amtoft.
Quote:
In Round 4 he was autoselected and even though he showed up after San Diego selected since San Diego had sent a list we allowed him to change his pick. He also nearly missed his Round 3 pick (showing up less than 10 minutes before pick was due in)

True story
In all seriousness, Amtoft knows his shit and expresses his thoughts on players and their fit on prospective teams. No reason for anyone to get fired up over in my opinion.
I've got a hankering for some lollypops and butt kicking, and I am all out of lollypops!
(Did I get that right?)
jlukes, please don't take my guy. I know nothing would give you more pleasure, but cut a brother a break, please!
Tampa Bay picks before Rick
The Panthers are proud of their selections
Agree about Matt. Ever since he took over, the draft has run very well. We are lucky to have him.
It would be interesting if Sy could comment, but it would also be a tall order for someone to review each team's results. I wouldn't want to burn him out.

Not necessarily Sy, but would be nice to have someone or a group of people comment on the overall results
I had been waiting and waiting to pull the trigger on Bell, thinking he'd slip through the cracks, and my gamble paid off.

Yeah that was just me bring upset that not one QB went in the first 4 picks which. I had a 4 player board not with a QB and that was me throwing a fit. With MO all i said was i didn't like the fit and he called all upset and called me Nancy. I understand i have strong opinions and sometimes cant help take the bait of name calling. After awhile when it seemed if wasnt going to end i just stopping responding. I didnt want to continue this thread off line like i have in the past.
I had been waiting and waiting to pull the trigger on Bell, thinking he'd slip through the cracks, and my gamble paid off.
I like Bell. Was debating about taking Tull instead of Heuerman in the 4th then taking Bell in the 5th, but I decided against that. Speaking of other recent picks Dezmin Lewis was one of 3 WR's that I was considering for the pick that ultimately was Kenny Bell
He reads coverage well (5 PBU's and 4 INT's) and can get behind the LOS (4 TFL's). He also plays ST's as he was their outside gunner.
He may go in Day 3 but he'll be hard to cut. He's one of the more natural slot CB's this side of Golson.
Let me know how I did for the Cowboys.
First Round(27th pick) Kevin Johnson,CB, Wake Forest
Second Round(60st pick) Ameer Abdullah,RB, Nebraska
Third Round(91st pick) Henry Anderson,DE, Stanford
Fourth Round(127th pick)Stefon Diggs,WR, Maryland
Fifth Round(163rd pick) Ben Heeney,MLB, Kansas
2nd G AJ Cann
3rd OT Donovan Smith
4th S Gerod Holliman
5th DE Lynden Trail
5th WR DeAndre Smelter
I went into the draft wanting to fix the OL. I was targeting Jake Fisher in the 2nd but he went the pick before so I happily took Cann because he is arguably the best guard in the draft and he will settle in at RG where last years starter Omameh was terrible. Also Demar Dotson was solid at RT but he is moving over to LT this year leaving a gaping hole there and I was very happy that Donovan Smith was there because he has pro bowl ability at RT if he works for it. Holliman will be used early on in nickel packages and on 3rd down to take advantage of his ball hawk skills. Trail will get work in the rotation as he is raw but there isn't much at DE in front of him besides recently signed George Johnson, Jacquies Smith, and William Gholston. Smelter will be red-shirted but he has a lot of potential to develop into a great #2 opposite Mike Evans in a couple of years when Vincent Jackson is gone.
He sacrificed numbers this year for the team by playing an h-back/TE role in his return from an ACL injury which had him miss the entire 2013 season. His 2012 season though was one of the best in school history. 81 catches for 1364 yards and 11 TDs. I think he's closer to this player. As long as he can stay healthy and being one more year away from his injury, I think he'll be his more explosive self.
Very smooth, deceptive in the open field and excellent ball skills. Good pedigree as well. His father David was a 13 year veteran at TE in the NFL.

It was between Bell, Lewis and Hill for my previous pick. Glad I didn't chance them being around at 171
Sorry to break your heart dude. I was debating on waiting until my 6th round pick to get Smelter but I knew there was a slim chance that he would be there. Drafting Smelter in the 5th or 6th was my plan all along I was just hoping he would still be there after I passed on Agholor in the 2nd.
I wasn't taking Hill after getting 2 WR earlier. I was planning on going a totally different direction but CAP was ranked similarly, the Ravens could use a RB and I had one other RB after CAP with a mock draftable grade (top 6 rounds)
Then the fact we were able to get the top rated DB left on the board should help as well. Robinson is a guy who I think will go higher in the real draft, but the Panthers could use the help on the line and we hope he can come in right away and pay some dividends.
Yes
Baltimore Ravens selections:
Round 1 - Malcom Brown/5T/Texas
Round 2 - Devin Smith/WR/Ohio State
Round 3 - D'Joun Smith/CB/Florida Atlantic
Round 4 - Reese Dismukes/C/Auburn
Round 4 - Jeff Heuerman/TE/Ohio State
Round 4 - Markus Golden/OLB/Missouri
Round 5 - Kenny Bell/WR/Nebraska
Round 5 - Cameron Artis-Payne/RB/Auburn
Round 5 - Mitch Morse/OL/Missouri
Round 6 - TBD
Part of the reason that I have been able to make picks so quickly is that the Baltimore Ravens were blackballed from many schools due to fights between their scouts and Joe Collins over candy. Ohio State, Missouri and Auburn were nice enough to let us in and have been rewarded with 2 picks each and possibly more to come
There is always UKGiantsFan's sleeper OG (who could also play RT)
So with that i went with Mauler Jamon Brown. He may not be able to stay outside at RT where i think he will dominate, but at worst he can move into RG. For the 6th round he will be a very good pick for the Giants and the Raiders of course.
Thank you. I was pleasantly surprised at how many players i am still high on.
Thompson is also a mature guy. Military family, born in Germany. Already married with two kids. I'm sure that'll be a huge motivation for success. At worst I could see him moving inside a la Carl Nicks and dominating as a sapce eating guard.
I almost switched to Glenn... I needed at least one OL tho in this draft and may regret passing on Glenn. Dont get me wrong I am very high on Jamon also but Glenn really stands out as a steal to me
I was really glad that Hickey was there. Solid prospect, Levitre may be retiring and is getting older even if not. Build the OL in front of Mariota and focus on defense next year.
impressed at the Senior Bowl, made multiple All-America teams, and looks to already be on the way to a powerful run blocker in the nfl. His pass technique needs work, but Ga Tech rarely threw the ball so he needs some coaching and experience, but a great asset for this late in the draft
1. Amari Cooper
2. Eli Harold
3. Cedric Ogbuehi
4. Rob Havenstein
Went BPA in round 1. Cooper may not have an immediate impact, but neither Decker nor Marshall are long term solutions, so Cooper will see the field sooner rather than later.
Harold was a balance of need/BPA in round two. He needs to gain some weight, but Harold can get to the QB and will be able to cause havoc in the 3-4.
I bought low on Ogbuehi and Havenstein. One because of injury and one because of a poor combine performance. Both can slot in at RT or G, and at the very least will provide really good depth.
Very happy with my class this year.
I'm hopeful we can wrap this up by Saturday...
Thanks, Matt!
1. Collins, OT
2. Thompson, OLB
3. Funchess, WR
4. Nelson, CB
5. Hardison, DT
6. Carter, SS
1a - Randy Gregory OLB - We aren't as concerned with the weed-us... We spoke to him about the issues (maturity) and a pleased to select this pass rushing specialist at 13.
1b (Seattle) - Marcus Peters CB - Without the off the field issues, we believe Marcus would have been selected in the top 20 picks. Nice compliment to our current group of CBs, including Browner, with a nod to the future.
2 - Breshad Perriman WR - With the guidance of Drew Brees and coach Payton, we believe Perriman can completely make up for his dad's disappointing showing. Deep outside threat that compliments Cooks well.
3a - Arie Kouandjio OG - True OG for us. Fingers crossed on knee issues. Enough said.
3b - Damarious Randall FS - This was a generic pick due to me not being available. Happily enough, this was going to be our pick.
5a - Ben Koyack TE - Love Koyack. Love to get him at this spot. Not going to replace Graham, but who is going to? Great two way TE prospect.
5b - Anthony Harris SS - Didn't believe he would last to this point. In time, I believe he will be paired very nicely with Randall.
6 - Derrick Lott DT - Love his potential coming from a small school. Scheme fit? Potentially... We plan on bulking him up a little bit more to play the 5T. Project.
1. DE Dante Fowler - best 4-3 DE in the draft that is very limited with 4-3 DEs. Brings more of the super athleticism to the Raiders front 7. If Leonard and Fowler were gone was going Cooper
2. DT Jordan Phillips - I was targetting Agholor or Tre Jackson with this pick since I took Fowler in the 1st. When Agholor went I was going to go Tre Jackson but Phillips surprisingly fell to me and DT is a major need also.
3. RB Jeremy Langford - was targetting Tre Jackson, Donovan Smith, and Kurtis Drummond for this pick. All 3 went off the board and my next OL Daryl Williams who I thought I could maybe get next round. So I went with my higher rated and under rated RB in Langford. Kid is good
4. WR Ty Montgomery - was targetting Daryl Williams all along here and he went. Got busy and missed my pick. Auto drafted a player I know a to much about unfortunately. Super talented kid that is also a need and good fit.
5. FS Durel Eskridge - finally got a player I was targetting. I was shocked he was still on the board as many other Safeties went that i feel are not as good. Was thinking I would be going Jordan Richards here so happy to get a player that may go in the late 3rd early 4th.
6. OT Jamon Brown - coming in i wanted an OL in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round. The fact I am just now getting one is shocking to me. The value just never justified the pick until this round and still I may have taken CB Jacoby Glenn. In the end though Jamon Brown is a beast and was thought to be headed to 1st or 2nd round status. He has dropped some but to me he doesnt make it to the 6th round. Very talented and should be able to stay outside at RT IMO.
I'll say this about ILB Taiwan Jones out of Michigan State who I just picked: dude's a a thumper. It's nice to have one of those ultra physical types who is a no-nonsense type football player laying some punishing blows on the opposition. I'm very happy to choose him at this spot. He definitely fills a need, and a is a good value at this spot in the draft.
2 - ILB Benardrick McKinney - The retirement of Patrick Willis and Chris Borland open up a hole at inside linebacker, in the 9ers system they can do a decent job of letting him do what he does best, which is tackle.
3 - DE Mario Edwards Jr - He has the versatility to play end or tackle in the NFL. He also could serve as a five-technique in a 3-4 defense. VERY surprised he lasted this long!
4 - TE Jesse James - Last season, Vernon Davis and Vance McDonald caught only 28 passes combined. At 6-foot-7 and 261 pounds, James brings something to the table that can’t be coached – size. That makes him a very dangerous weapon, especially in the red zone.
4 - OG Jeremiah Poutasi - The whole 49ers OLine is shaky. Losing Mike Iupati in FA hurt. Poutasi played LT at Utah, but projects to G in the pros. He's versatility will help.
5 - WR Vince Mayle - Picking up Torrey Smith was a BIG plus. With Mayle, they have a guy they could potentially work with and mold. Giving him a chance to learn from a receiver like Anquan Boldin could be just the type of situation that he needs to become an NFL starter.
6 - OLB Jake Ryan- Ryan will have no problem working as hard as anyone on the team, and he can provide some versatility on defense for the 49ers
Sucks to be you! lol
Thought he was good value here. We think he can play end in a 3-4 alignment and can move inside on passing downs.
Thought he was good value here. We think he can play end in a 3-4 alignment and can move inside on passing downs.
His stock appears to be rising. Good value at this point
195. Houston (Dirty Old Beckham)
196. Philadelphia (Chris in Philly)
197. Cincinnati (Matt G)
198. Arizona (DCPollaro)
199. Pittsburgh (Gmen-in-SC)
200. Detroit (YAJ2112)
NOTE:
There are only 24 picks to go until we complete our Mock Draft for this year. Pick #217 belonging to Kansas City (English Alaister) will be our Mr. Irrelevant.
First Round: Did not hesitate to take Leonard Williams out USC as to me he is the best player in the class bar none. He can wreak havoc on an offensive line whenever he wants and he loves the game. Has the potential to be a star almost immediately. Really happy that Winston and Marriota when 1-2.
Second Round: Nelson Agholor another USC product was easily my favorite pick in this draft. Agholor has the route running skills and speed to be a starter from Day 1. He should immediately start off as a dangerous return man. To me, Agholor is right up there with Cooper, White, and Parker in terms of talent.
Third Round: Kurtis Drummond my top free safety in the 2015 class. He has the potential to be a good one in my opinion. Drummond is a very smart and heady player who has outstanding ball skills and was a leader on a very good defensive Michigan State team.
Fourth Round: David Cobb was a running back I considered taking in the third round and really hoped that he would last until my pick in the fourth round and glad he did. Cobb is being overlooked by a lot of so called draft experts but all this guy does is produce. He may not have a second gear that some other running backs have but he just gets the job done. Hard runner that isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder to get the extra yard or two.
Fifth Round: The Jaguars took their highest remaining player on their board at the time and it was Jordan Hicks a linebacker out of Texas. Jordan Hicks put up some great numbers at the combine and is a proven leader at the linebacker position for the Longhorns. By all accounts, Hicks loves the game and will spend extra time watching film.
Sixth Round: The Jaguars really wanted Sean Hickey or Jacoby Glenn to last to their pick. We were really sweating out the last couple picks after Hickey was chosen. Glenn did not perform well at the combine but he is a flat out player and has the potential to be a steal for the Jaguars. All he did at UCF was produce. He is the ball hawk that the Jaguars need and they hope he will be able to step in sooner than later.
You make this awesome and we're lucky to have you run it for us.
Round 2 - (#47 overall) - Phillip Dorsett, WR, Miami
Round 3 - NONE
Round 4 - (#114 overall) - Doran Grant, CB, Ohio State
Round 5a - (#149 overall) - Chris Hackett, SS, TCU
Round 5b - (#150 overall) - Karlos Williams, RB, Florida State
Round 6 - (#191 overall) - Taiwan Jones, ILB, Michigan State
I'll discuss them in detail later when I'm feeling better. I at least wanted to list them here for now. I wish I could have added another DE/DT/OG, but there are only so many picks. There's always UDFA and Veteran Free Agency. Those are purely for need. I feel I did the best I could by not reaching for need, and sticking to value. Karlos Williams stood out to me in the 5th (the Dolphins don't really need another RB), so that's an example of that thinking.
He never quite lived up to his recruiting hype, but he's a hard worker and a good kid and we think he can be a better pro than he ever was in college.
R1 - 20 *Landon Collins, SS, Alabama
R2-52 *Sammie Coates, WR, Auburn
R3-84 Josh Shaw, CB, Southern California
R4-113 Tony Lippett, WR, Michigan State
R5-145 *Mike Davis, RB, South Carolina
R5-156 MyCole Pruitt, TE, Southern Illinois
R6-196 Ray Drew, DE, Georgia
Striking lack of Oregon players (and PAC12 in general), but we feel pretty good that our coaching and sports medicine staffs will get the most out of these young men.
2 Gap Nose Tackles - ( New Window )
If I hadn't taken Parry in the 5th, would you have snapped him up in the 6th?
1- Max Valles OLB, 2- Thomas Rawles RB, 3- Tyeler Davison DT, 4- Nick Boyle TE, 5- Frank Clark DE
6'3"/245 lbs, 33" arms, Pro Day: 4.64, 10' broad, 4.53ss
2014 SEC defensive player of the year, SEC leader in sacks and TFLs. Consensus first team AA. Explosive athlete, who plays with great power as well. Explodes off the line and plays with passion. Tenacious football player with strong hands and upper body. Can drop into coverage as well. The only knock on him is the lack of ideal length, but he was a great value where we got him. With Mingo a question mark, we need another pass rusher opposite Paul Kruger to add to one of the leagues top pass defenses and we think we got a great one.
Todd Gurley, RB - Georgia
6'1"/222 lbs
I have him listed as a top 3 overall talent in this draft class if his knee checks out. Rare blend of strength and explosivness. Great size and power but can break the long run. He's the best RB I've seen come out of college since Adrian Peterson. Great receiver out of the backfield, a true workhorse, 3-down back. In 2014, 61.9% of his yardage was after contact, rarely fumbles. While the Browns have some good young RBs, none are even close to Gurley's talent. On an offense completely void of weapons, we could not pass on adding a possible generational talent.
SY's Take:"*Gurley would have been a top 4 player in this draft class if it weren’t for the torn ACL. He fits on the NYG roster if he falls to the 2nd round pick. RB may not be a need but I don’t think this kind of player can be passed on if he is there unless there is another guy there at or very near his grade."
Maxx Williams, TE - Minnesota
6'4"/249 lbs, 4.78, 34.5" vert, 117" broad, 4.37ss (all top 5 at the position)
Decent speed, very good acceleration. Very dangerous after the catch, 82% of his catches were 1st downs or TDs. Needs the NFL strength program and some technique work on his routes, but he's the consensus #1 TE in a weak draft class and fills a huge need for 1) Playmakers on an awful offense and 2)a TE that can threaten the seam with Jordan cameron moving on.
SY's Take:"*I don’t see Williams as a first round caliber talent but with this TE class being overly weak, he could sneak in there somewhere. I think he is a tough kid that can make a lot of touch catches, but he isn’t the kind of TE that scares anyone. We aren’t talking about a supreme athlete here and really, he isn’t that good of a blocker. Weak lower body. That would bother me if I brought him in to be a starting TE unless we were talking about an elite athlete and pass catcher."
Rashad Greene, WR - Florida State
5'11"/182 lbs, 4.53 - 40 yds, 36.5" vert, 4.12ss
2014 biletnikoff finalist, 1st team all ACC, 2nd team AA. FSU career leader in receptions and receiving yards. Great route runner who is extremely smooth. Elusive after the catch and adjusts well to the ball. He is a little slightly built but is just an excellent football player. Not going to be a #1 star receiver but should be a great #2.
SY's Take: "*Sure handed and reliable underneath route runner. The lack of size is overblown, he is as smooth a receiver you will find and can be a weapon for an offense than relies on WRs getting themselves open via quick routes and savvy reading of the defense."
Ramik Wilson, ILB - Georgia
6'2"/237 lbs, 33" arms, 4.77, 23 reps
Three year starter, plays downhill against the run. Moves extremely well laterally, plays faster sideline-to-sideline than his timed speed. Very good tackler. Right now he's a liability in coverage, but his athleticism should allow him to improve there. Comes from a 3-4 at Georgia. The Browns run defense was atrocious last year, Dansby can still play but he's getting long in the tooth and Craig Robertson is mediocre and undersized. Wilson should be able to start at the WILB spot right away and help against the run
Leterrius Walton, DL - Central Michigan
6'5"/320 lbs, 32" arms, 25 reps, 5.25
Relatively new to the DL, moved from the OL and keeps getting better. Some explosiveness off the snap, can rush the passer as well as play the run. Projects well to the 5-technique for us. Still improving, needs some polish but should be a solid starter in a few years.
SY's Take: "Another small school guy with an intriguing tool set and developed skills. Walton is more than a run plug, he showed some good movement between the tackles and if the light turns on, you are looking at a starting caliber player that can fit multiple schemes. He’s a guy I think sneaks in to the top 3 rounds."
Craig Mager, CB - Texas State
5'11"/201 lbs, 4.44, 130" broad, 4.07ss, 17 reps
Small school prospect, 4 year starter, who plays with fire and emotion. Loves to hit, great athlete with quick-twitch skills. Average instincts, but played really well at the East-West Shrine game. Super competitive, high ceiling guy.
Xavier Williams, DT - Northern Iowa
6'2"/320 lbs, 30 reps
Former wrestler who plays with great leverage and natural strength. Good effort and toughness, very successful taking on double teams. Plays with great quickness off of the snap for a man of his size. Played extremely well at the East/West Shrine Bowl. His low base and ability to play with leverage has us projecting him to a future at the nose with some better technique and lower body strength.
Dres Anderson, WR - Utah
6'1"/187 lbs, Pro Day: 4.47, 4.22 SS, 6.83 3-Cone
Knee injury ended his 2014 season early, but a great pro day workout without a brace shows how his healing process has going. Thought to be a 2nd day pick coming into the season, we are thrilled with the value here with our final pick. The son of "Flipper" Anderson. Very explosive, great acceleration and tough after the catch. 4-time academic all Pac-12. Leaves Utah ranked in the top six all time in receiving yards, 100 yd games, td catches even after missing more than half of the season.
Although a tad shorter than ideal, Brown was too good to pass up especially with the need caused by the trade of Haloti Ngata
Round 2 - Devin Smith/WR/Ohio State
The Ravens lost Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones in the off season and Steve Smith Jr. isn't getting any younger. Electric with the ball in his hands, Smith will make defenses respect the deep ball
Round 3 - D'Joun Smith/CB/Florida Atlantic
CB is a big need for the Ravens and Smith is a playmaker with intriguing upside
Round 4 - Reese Dismukes/C/Auburn
Zuttah is an 8 year vet and the depth behind him is questionable. Also represents solid value
Round 4 - Jeff Heuerman/TE/Ohio State
Another value pick. Dennis Pitta is making a lot of money to sit on IR. With the Ravens cap issues Heuerman can develop into a nice complement to 2014 3rd Rounder Crockett Gilmore so Pitta can be dumped
Round 4 - Markus Golden/OLB/Missouri
Tweener who will aid the pass rush after the Ravens lost McPhee in Free Agency and others are getting older
Round 5 - Kenny Bell/WR/Nebraska
Impressive combine and I feel a lot of untapped potential. Can also help in return game
Round 5 - Cameron Artis-Payne/RB/Auburn
With Rice and Pierce gone the Ravens are thin at RB. Finally need met some value
Round 5 - Mitch Morse/OL/Missouri
Too good to pass up here. Will provide depth across the OL which the Ravens could use
Round 6 - Alani Fua/OLB/BYU
With a number of players ranked similarly had to throw our west coast scouts a bone. May be destined for practice squad but upside with a solid 40 at Indy and tremendous 3 cone and shuttle times

Round 1 (Pick 17) - Andrus Peat OT
This was picked from a generic list and gave me the opportunity to take over the Chargers. What's interesting is that this is the player I would have taken anyway. Peat is the top player on my board and addresses a huge need. He gives us the opportunity to move Fluker inside while presenting a possibility at a long term solution at LT.
Round 2 (Pick 48) - Jay Ajayi RB
This is the running back that I wanted and am thrilled to come away with. Ajayi is the next Marshawn Lynch / Steven Jackson and is going to bring a much needed physical presence to the Chargers running game. Sy's #2 RB and his writeup:
Ajayi brings everything to the table that the NFL wants out of a running back. He has size and open field speed to runaway from defenders, but also shows a quick change of direction and smooth agility in traffic. Ajayi can break tackles several ways, consistently gaining extra yards. He is a true three down back that could be starting in the NFL his rookie season if the situation presented itself.
Round 3 (Pick 83) - Lorenzo Maudlin OLB
Maudlin provides some much needed youth to the pass rush. He's a playmaker that will likely contribute on special teams year 1 and a situation pass rusher.
Round 4 (Pick 117) - Antwan Goodley WR
Antwan Goodley is an interesting prospect and I was surprised to see him still available. He will compete for roles on special teams and will compete for a role as a WR.
Round 5 (Pick 153) Zach Wagenmann OLB
Perhaps too early with this pick but he was a player I wanted to come away with. He competed at a lower level in the Big Sky but absolutely dominated there. He made a big impression at the combine besting many of the higher rated prospects. Here's Sy's writeup on him:
Not sure this guy can hack it as a 4-3 DE, as I just don’t see the body type. But if NYG can create a role for a situational pass rusher from a LB type spot, Wagenmann is worth a day 3 look. At a lower level of college football, he looked like Clay Matthews with his explosion off the ball and relentless pursuit of the action. He is a physical guy that had a nice showing at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
Round 6 (Pick 192) - Mike Hull ILB
Hull is a bit undersized and not the most athletic but had massive production. He was the linebacker of the year in the Big 10 which is nothing to sneeze at. Hoping he can compete on specials and bulk up and could potentially hack it as an ILB.
I think it would be fun to compare how people did relative to what the pros do. Of course the pros are wrong more than they're right but it's something I can take a shot at if people are interested.
