BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 4/1/2015 9:27 am
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the entire draft and will need to be bumped occasionally to push them back to page 1 of the forum.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (ie: Indianapolis Colts won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) BlueManFu, BigBlueDownTheShore, odunde and uncledave will have priority to fill the vacancy. Otherwise, the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers that didn't get into the draft but were active in the draft discussion thread.

Once again, I strongly encourage all GMs to utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of both available and taken prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible. I have saved the GBN Big Board (3/27) for your reference as well.

Let's do this!

Time to let the Picks fly gentlemen

Good Luck to all(except dallas/philly/washington)and keep the convo above board please.
I am going to get this started
Jay on the Island : 4/1/2015 9:40 am : link
early
Honestly that was a tough choice
Jay on the Island : 4/1/2015 9:43 am : link
I really wanted to draft Leonard Williams but the Bucs already have McCoy who they are paying a lot of money too. Amari Cooper was also considered but as we all know receiver is not as big of a need as QB and I think Lovie Smith can keep Winston focused on football.
Jay
Torrag : 4/1/2015 9:44 am : link
Do you believe Winston is a true franchise QB? Or is it a case of best QB in this draft coupled with the need? How concerned are you with his maturity as the leader of your franchise?
And so it begins!!
MadPlaid : 4/1/2015 9:47 am : link
Good luck everyone. Also, suck iiit!!
Torrag
Jay on the Island : 4/1/2015 9:56 am : link
I think he has potential to be a franchise QB. I made my decision based more on what I think Tampa would do rather than solely basing it on what I would do with the first overall pick.
I am concerned with his maturity
Jay on the Island : 4/1/2015 9:57 am : link
but I have confidence in Lovie Smith's ability to keep this kid focused and motivated.

Watching him with guys like Gruden he clearly knows the game and comes from a pro style scheme, but will he be the next Cam Newtwon in the sense that he could keep the distractions far enough away to take that next step or will he be the next Jeff George? I think Ben Roethlisberger is a good comp if he can get his act together

I think it has a minor impact on the decision but I think the fact that they have little at QB makes it an easier decision.
Mike
Lionhart28 : 4/1/2015 10:08 am : link
I like that comp, I don't think he quite has Roethlisbergers arm strength or movement skills but I'd say he's about the closest current comp.

On an aside, if the god damned Browns had taken Derek Carr like I did last year they wouldn't still need a freaking QB!!! Also, Jeremy Hill and Allen Robinson would look nice in this offense.
Good pick Jay
sjnyfan : 4/1/2015 10:26 am : link
I think when it comes to character flags there are immature kids and bad kids. I think Winston is immature and is quickly learning how to act like a man. Manziel was a bad kid and it didn't take long to show.

Add to the fact that Lovie gets the chance at a franchise QB which he never had before with established weapons on offense. Staying in Florida will help sell tix as well.

Last but not least is his leadership and football intelligence. Despite all of the nonsense that team still followed his lead and did so with only one loss. His FBI's reportedly is off the chart. During baseball season he brought his football playbook on road trips. He knew that playbook inside and out and considering it's a pro style offense that's a huge leg up. His knowledge of the game has been compared to Manning and Luck. That's incredibly high praise.
I'd have done the same
mrvax : 4/1/2015 10:30 am : link
Bucs have to roll the dice and see if Winston can get his personal life squared away. If so, they probably have a very good franchise QB. I suppose TB had initial meetings with Winston prior to making this decision.

Matt, thanks for doing this again.

I took Mariota because I believe that either Tennessee will

take him, or they will trade out of the slot for someone who will take MM.
Makes sense Yat
Torrag : 4/1/2015 11:06 am : link
Were you tempted to get your name on the dotted line with Leonard Williams?
I think Mariota is the right pick
English Alaister : 4/1/2015 11:13 am : link
It is so much easier to take a QB high than it was under the new CBA and he has such great intangibles. I think it will take him a while to reach his potential and he might never be an elite stats guy but I see him a lot like I see Eli. A steady, hard-working presence setting the right tone for the organisation with the talent to make everyone around him better. Obviously different types of QB on the field but similar in terms of what they can do for a franchise off the field.
I think it comes down to how exceptional you consider Williams.
Big Blue Blogger : 4/1/2015 11:19 am : link
If you have Leonard Williams graded as the next Reggie White, and you don't love Mariota, you take Williams and live with Muttonburger at QB for now. Otherwise, I think EA and yat are right: you have to take a shot with a potential franchise QB (or trade the pick to somebody who will).
would not surprise
SirYesSir : 4/1/2015 11:28 am : link
me to see the titans take mariotta, but damn they better be sure about him. to take another failed qb high after locker would be disastrous for the franchise.

I don't think I'd have the balls to make that move if I were them. on the other hand, the draft is really the only cost-efficient way to add a talented qb. the free market will kill your cap along with other compensations. it's a tough business.
Good picks
Optimus-NY : 4/1/2015 11:43 am : link
I pick for the Fish at 14. We're up to pick #3, so I'm gonna make a 12 player board up now, and then e-mail it to Matt G. if I'm not around to make my pick in person. I'll be flying from Abu Dhabi to NY on Thursday April 2nd 6:20 pm NY time. I'll try my best to hang around and make my pick in person though. You all have my word.
Well the Giants just gained another fan!!!!!
TheCatch : 4/1/2015 11:50 am : link
My wife is a diehard football fan , she grew up in tampa. She is so discusted with Winstons behavior , she said she will come on board to my team . She already watches all the Giants games with me.

Down here in tampa , a lot of this going on . Some people love him and some people are outraged that he is even getting a shot in the NFL.

Absolutely. He's the best player in the draft, but QBs go very high, and tons of teams are angling to show interest in MM, imo to encourage teams to trade up with them for him...so why not Tennessee.

Jameis is just a kid. People who think he doesn't deserve a shot to play in the NFL are either racist or stupid.
I don't know of anyone..
FatMan in Charlotte : 4/1/2015 12:04 pm : link
who think Winston doesn't deserve a shot in the NFL.

But there are a lot of people who think he will shit away that opportunity.

not sure how that makes them racist or idiots seeing that a number of players with Winston's checkered past ended up washing out due to their own lack of control.

Rape allegations don't really fall under the classification of being 'just a kid'.

ask yourself how you would feel if the Giants picked Winston ? Do you want his baggage ?

Playing in the NFL is a privilege . It should be treated as such. Too many teams sacrificing morals for wins......but that's just my opinion. Has nothing to do with race.
Just a heads up

I'll be off work tomorrow and away from a computer for most of this day as the draft officially starts. I've emailed Matt a ranked list to pick from and asked that he post my pick immediately when I go on the clock, I'll come onto this thread when I have the chance to discuss my selection.

We all know you're picking Leonard Williams

(I'm gonna do this until Leonard Williams falls to #7...Ok, I won't)
No real surprises in the Top 3

Now is where it will start getting interesting
The Jaguars need to bolster their defensive line
Kevin in CT : 4/1/2015 1:55 pm : link
And with Leonard Williams they are able to do this. This pick is a no brainier for the Jaguars who desperately need help with their pass and rush defense. The Jaguars are excited to see Winston and Marriota go 1-2.
I have OAK's pick

interesting pick. I was half expecting you to go WR, but Fowler makes a lot of sense. I think this helps to mix up expectations for our mock draft.

By the way, have we decided not to post pics of our selections this year?
Fowler
English Alaister : 4/1/2015 2:27 pm : link
Is an interesting one. Is he the stud who sec defenders say is a nightmare to block or is he not an exceptional athlete who failed to wow at the combine.
I had
Amtoft : 4/1/2015 2:30 pm : link
Amari Cooper rated as a slightly better player behind Leonard Williams, but Fowler is the best 4-3 DE in this draft by a mile imo. If Williams and Fowler were gone I was going Cooper easy. My thinking now is while I can get a couple WRs later there is barely any talent at 4-3 DE.

Fowler played all over. They asked a lot of him including dropping weight to play some LB... I think set in one spot of 4-3 DE and he will be a stud! Very excited about this pick but Cooper was right there for me. I would have loved any of Williams, Cooper, or Fowler. My nightmare would have been if they did like last year and bypassed all the QBs before the Raiders pick.
Sir-Yes-Sir vs SirYesSir?

Just noticing a slight variation to the handles... Anyone have any insight if he's posting under a new handle? I just emailed "Sir-Yes-Sir" anyway...
Don't know, but his handle could have changed

due to BBI's password shenanigans.
Fowler.....Interesting Pick and a good one......

Good chance...if Reese is thinking WR....that Cooper and/or White drops to 9 now with Oakland going defense. Interesting to see how this draft develops!

There really was no realistic alternative pick with Winston. The kid's just a natural fit for TB. Don't think off field concerns will be a problem once he is in with grown men & puts his big boy pants on.
