We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the entire draft and will need to be bumped occasionally to push them back to page 1 of the forum.
Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the
GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (ie: Indianapolis Colts won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) BlueManFu, BigBlueDownTheShore, odunde and uncledave will have priority to fill the vacancy. Otherwise, the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers that didn't get into the draft but were active in the draft discussion thread.
Once again, I strongly encourage all GMs to utilize the
BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of both available and taken prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible. I have saved the
GBN Big Board (3/27) for your reference as well.
Thompson is also a mature guy. Military family, born in Germany. Already married with two kids. I'm sure that'll be a huge motivation for success. At worst I could see him moving inside a la Carl Nicks and dominating as a sapce eating guard.
I almost switched to Glenn... I needed at least one OL tho in this draft and may regret passing on Glenn. Dont get me wrong I am very high on Jamon also but Glenn really stands out as a steal to me
I was really glad that Hickey was there. Solid prospect, Levitre may be retiring and is getting older even if not. Build the OL in front of Mariota and focus on defense next year.
impressed at the Senior Bowl, made multiple All-America teams, and looks to already be on the way to a powerful run blocker in the nfl. His pass technique needs work, but Ga Tech rarely threw the ball so he needs some coaching and experience, but a great asset for this late in the draft
1. Amari Cooper
2. Eli Harold
3. Cedric Ogbuehi
4. Rob Havenstein
Went BPA in round 1. Cooper may not have an immediate impact, but neither Decker nor Marshall are long term solutions, so Cooper will see the field sooner rather than later.
Harold was a balance of need/BPA in round two. He needs to gain some weight, but Harold can get to the QB and will be able to cause havoc in the 3-4.
I bought low on Ogbuehi and Havenstein. One because of injury and one because of a poor combine performance. Both can slot in at RT or G, and at the very least will provide really good depth.
Very happy with my class this year.
I'm hopeful we can wrap this up by Saturday...
Thanks, Matt!
1. Collins, OT
2. Thompson, OLB
3. Funchess, WR
4. Nelson, CB
5. Hardison, DT
6. Carter, SS
1a - Randy Gregory OLB - We aren't as concerned with the weed-us... We spoke to him about the issues (maturity) and a pleased to select this pass rushing specialist at 13.
1b (Seattle) - Marcus Peters CB - Without the off the field issues, we believe Marcus would have been selected in the top 20 picks. Nice compliment to our current group of CBs, including Browner, with a nod to the future.
2 - Breshad Perriman WR - With the guidance of Drew Brees and coach Payton, we believe Perriman can completely make up for his dad's disappointing showing. Deep outside threat that compliments Cooks well.
3a - Arie Kouandjio OG - True OG for us. Fingers crossed on knee issues. Enough said.
3b - Damarious Randall FS - This was a generic pick due to me not being available. Happily enough, this was going to be our pick.
5a - Ben Koyack TE - Love Koyack. Love to get him at this spot. Not going to replace Graham, but who is going to? Great two way TE prospect.
5b - Anthony Harris SS - Didn't believe he would last to this point. In time, I believe he will be paired very nicely with Randall.
6 - Derrick Lott DT - Love his potential coming from a small school. Scheme fit? Potentially... We plan on bulking him up a little bit more to play the 5T. Project.
1. DE Dante Fowler - best 4-3 DE in the draft that is very limited with 4-3 DEs. Brings more of the super athleticism to the Raiders front 7. If Leonard and Fowler were gone was going Cooper
2. DT Jordan Phillips - I was targetting Agholor or Tre Jackson with this pick since I took Fowler in the 1st. When Agholor went I was going to go Tre Jackson but Phillips surprisingly fell to me and DT is a major need also.
3. RB Jeremy Langford - was targetting Tre Jackson, Donovan Smith, and Kurtis Drummond for this pick. All 3 went off the board and my next OL Daryl Williams who I thought I could maybe get next round. So I went with my higher rated and under rated RB in Langford. Kid is good
4. WR Ty Montgomery - was targetting Daryl Williams all along here and he went. Got busy and missed my pick. Auto drafted a player I know a to much about unfortunately. Super talented kid that is also a need and good fit.
5. FS Durel Eskridge - finally got a player I was targetting. I was shocked he was still on the board as many other Safeties went that i feel are not as good. Was thinking I would be going Jordan Richards here so happy to get a player that may go in the late 3rd early 4th.
6. OT Jamon Brown - coming in i wanted an OL in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round. The fact I am just now getting one is shocking to me. The value just never justified the pick until this round and still I may have taken CB Jacoby Glenn. In the end though Jamon Brown is a beast and was thought to be headed to 1st or 2nd round status. He has dropped some but to me he doesnt make it to the 6th round. Very talented and should be able to stay outside at RT IMO.
I'll say this about ILB Taiwan Jones out of Michigan State who I just picked: dude's a a thumper. It's nice to have one of those ultra physical types who is a no-nonsense type football player laying some punishing blows on the opposition. I'm very happy to choose him at this spot. He definitely fills a need, and a is a good value at this spot in the draft.
2 - ILB Benardrick McKinney - The retirement of Patrick Willis and Chris Borland open up a hole at inside linebacker, in the 9ers system they can do a decent job of letting him do what he does best, which is tackle.
3 - DE Mario Edwards Jr - He has the versatility to play end or tackle in the NFL. He also could serve as a five-technique in a 3-4 defense. VERY surprised he lasted this long!
4 - TE Jesse James - Last season, Vernon Davis and Vance McDonald caught only 28 passes combined. At 6-foot-7 and 261 pounds, James brings something to the table that can’t be coached – size. That makes him a very dangerous weapon, especially in the red zone.
4 - OG Jeremiah Poutasi - The whole 49ers OLine is shaky. Losing Mike Iupati in FA hurt. Poutasi played LT at Utah, but projects to G in the pros. He's versatility will help.
5 - WR Vince Mayle - Picking up Torrey Smith was a BIG plus. With Mayle, they have a guy they could potentially work with and mold. Giving him a chance to learn from a receiver like Anquan Boldin could be just the type of situation that he needs to become an NFL starter.
6 - OLB Jake Ryan- Ryan will have no problem working as hard as anyone on the team, and he can provide some versatility on defense for the 49ers
Sucks to be you! lol
Thought he was good value here. We think he can play end in a 3-4 alignment and can move inside on passing downs.

His stock appears to be rising. Good value at this point
195. Houston (Dirty Old Beckham)
196. Philadelphia (Chris in Philly)
197. Cincinnati (Matt G)
198. Arizona (DCPollaro)
199. Pittsburgh (Gmen-in-SC)
200. Detroit (YAJ2112)
NOTE:
There are only 24 picks to go until we complete our Mock Draft for this year. Pick #217 belonging to Kansas City (English Alaister) will be our Mr. Irrelevant.
First Round: Did not hesitate to take Leonard Williams out USC as to me he is the best player in the class bar none. He can wreak havoc on an offensive line whenever he wants and he loves the game. Has the potential to be a star almost immediately. Really happy that Winston and Marriota when 1-2.
Second Round: Nelson Agholor another USC product was easily my favorite pick in this draft. Agholor has the route running skills and speed to be a starter from Day 1. He should immediately start off as a dangerous return man. To me, Agholor is right up there with Cooper, White, and Parker in terms of talent.
Third Round: Kurtis Drummond my top free safety in the 2015 class. He has the potential to be a good one in my opinion. Drummond is a very smart and heady player who has outstanding ball skills and was a leader on a very good defensive Michigan State team.
Fourth Round: David Cobb was a running back I considered taking in the third round and really hoped that he would last until my pick in the fourth round and glad he did. Cobb is being overlooked by a lot of so called draft experts but all this guy does is produce. He may not have a second gear that some other running backs have but he just gets the job done. Hard runner that isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder to get the extra yard or two.
Fifth Round: The Jaguars took their highest remaining player on their board at the time and it was Jordan Hicks a linebacker out of Texas. Jordan Hicks put up some great numbers at the combine and is a proven leader at the linebacker position for the Longhorns. By all accounts, Hicks loves the game and will spend extra time watching film.
Sixth Round: The Jaguars really wanted Sean Hickey or Jacoby Glenn to last to their pick. We were really sweating out the last couple picks after Hickey was chosen. Glenn did not perform well at the combine but he is a flat out player and has the potential to be a steal for the Jaguars. All he did at UCF was produce. He is the ball hawk that the Jaguars need and they hope he will be able to step in sooner than later.
You make this awesome and we're lucky to have you run it for us.
Round 2 - (#47 overall) - Phillip Dorsett, WR, Miami
Round 3 - NONE
Round 4 - (#114 overall) - Doran Grant, CB, Ohio State
Round 5a - (#149 overall) - Chris Hackett, SS, TCU
Round 5b - (#150 overall) - Karlos Williams, RB, Florida State
Round 6 - (#191 overall) - Taiwan Jones, ILB, Michigan State
I'll discuss them in detail later when I'm feeling better. I at least wanted to list them here for now. I wish I could have added another DE/DT/OG, but there are only so many picks. There's always UDFA and Veteran Free Agency. Those are purely for need. I feel I did the best I could by not reaching for need, and sticking to value. Karlos Williams stood out to me in the 5th (the Dolphins don't really need another RB), so that's an example of that thinking.
He never quite lived up to his recruiting hype, but he's a hard worker and a good kid and we think he can be a better pro than he ever was in college.
R1 - 20 *Landon Collins, SS, Alabama
R2-52 *Sammie Coates, WR, Auburn
R3-84 Josh Shaw, CB, Southern California
R4-113 Tony Lippett, WR, Michigan State
R5-145 *Mike Davis, RB, South Carolina
R5-156 MyCole Pruitt, TE, Southern Illinois
R6-196 Ray Drew, DE, Georgia
Striking lack of Oregon players (and PAC12 in general), but we feel pretty good that our coaching and sports medicine staffs will get the most out of these young men.
2 Gap Nose Tackles - ( New Window )
If I hadn't taken Parry in the 5th, would you have snapped him up in the 6th?
1- Max Valles OLB, 2- Thomas Rawles RB, 3- Tyeler Davison DT, 4- Nick Boyle TE, 5- Frank Clark DE
